So, I've been a long time user of GBPVR as my primary recording device, I thought I'd share a write up on how I have GBPVR setup to allow me to subscribe to my recordings and have them sync automatically to my iPhone for viewing on my daily commute.
I didn't want to use the EWA RSS feeds with enclosures because I only wanted certain shows, not all completed recordings (I have no particular need to watch my wifes episodes of Coronation Street each morning).
I borrowed heavily from this post but used HFS to serve up the files (feeds and recordings).
The software required:
1. HFS
2. XMLerator
3. Script to delete transcoded files when mpeg is deleted (see below)
The configuration:
1. I have GBPVR configured to automatically transcode everything using the iPod video configuration. (This is left over from my first attempt at getting video to my iPod, I could probably use a batch file to transcode only the programs that I would like transcoded, but at this point I haven't bothered, this also has the benefit that if there is a movie or something that I recorded that I want to manually add to iTunes, it's always there the next day.)
2. Since I didn't want to delete the original recordings from my haddrive because of the quality difference, I needed a way to remove the mp4 recordings when the mpegs were deleted either automatically by GBPVR or manualy. So I wrote this script that runs after the EPG update (run from the PostUpdateEPG.bat). It searches through all the folders in my recordings directory and if there is an mp4 file that doesn't have a matching mpg file it deletes it.
Code:
Option Explicit
Dim oFSO
Dim sDirectoryPath
Dim oFolder
Dim subFolders
Dim showFolder
Dim showFile
Dim oFileCollection
Dim oFile
Dim showFullName
Dim showName
Dim showExt
'14
'Customize values here to fit your needs
Set oFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
sDirectoryPath = "e:\recordings"
set oFolder = oFSO.GetFolder(sDirectoryPath)
set subFolders = oFolder.SubFolders
set oFileCollection = oFolder.Files
For each showFolder in subFolders
set oFileCollection = showFolder.Files
For each showFile in oFileCollection
showFullName = showFile.Path
showName = Mid(showFullName,1,len(showFullName)-3)
showExt = Mid(showFullName,len(showFullName)-2,3)
If showExt = "mp4" Then
If Not oFSO.fileExists(showName & "mpg") Then
showFile.delete
End If
End If
Next
Next
'Clean up
Set oFSO = Nothing
Set oFolder = Nothing
Set oFileCollection = Nothing
Set oFile = Nothing
Set sDirectoryPath = Nothing
Set subFolders = Nothing
Set showFolder = Nothing
Set showFile = Nothing
Set showFullName = Nothing
Set showName = Nothing
Set showExt = Nothing
4. Also in PostUpdateEPG.bat I have a line to run XMLerator for each show that I want a podcast generated:
cd E:\Recordings\The Daily Show With Jon Stewart
"c:\Program Files\XMLerator\XMLerator.exe" TheDailyShowWithJonStewart.txt
The contents of TheDailyShowWithJonStewart.txt:
Code:
[GENERAL]
basedirectory=E:\Recordings\The Daily Show With Jon Stewart
rssfilename=TheDailyShowWithJonStewart.xml
linkbasedirectory=E:\
aggregatefiles=true
includesubdirectories=true
[RSS]
Title=The Daily Show With Jon Stewart
Link=http://GBPVRMachine:7650/<DirectoryOffset><RssFileName>
Description=Daily Show Podcast
Category=TV
ItemTitle=
ItemLink=http://GBPVRMachine:7650/<DirectoryOffset><FileNameFull>
[FILEEXT]
mp4=video/mpeg
5. I use HFS to serve up my recordings directory so I can allow iTunes to access the XML file generated in step 4.
6. In iTunes in the menu, select Advanced > Subscribe to Podcast and paste in the URL of the XML file (should be something like http://GBPVRMachine:7650/Recordings/The Daily Show With Jon Stewart/TheDailyShowWithJonStewart.xml).
Where I have GBPVRMachine:7650 you would have to replace with either your GBPVR machines IP address or localhost if you are running everything off one computer and replace 7650 with the port that HFS is using.
Because this will serve up all the mp4 files in the folder and the podcast will contain all of them, I have iTunes set up to keep only the most recent episode so that it will only keep copies of the recordings in the recordings folder.
So using this, each morning when I grab my iPhone, it has the latest episodes of each show that I have a line in PostUpdateEPG.bat for. And I have something to do on my morning commute when I finish the news paper.
I should note that I only have this configured to work within my local network, I don't open the HFS port, but theoretically opening/forwarding that port on your router should allow you to access this out side your local network.
The date carried for EPG info in a DVB broadcast is encoded as a Modified Julian Date. The document I have gives the following formulae to convert to Year, Month and Day components.
Quote:a) To find Y, M, D from MJD
Y' = int [ (MJD - 15 078,2) / 365,25 ]
M' = int { [ MJD - 14 956,1 - int (Y' Ã 365,25) ] / 30,6001 }
D = MJD - 14 956 - int (Y' Ã 365,25) - int (M' Ã 30,6001)
If M' = 14 or M' = 15, then K = 1; else K = 0
Y = Y' + K
M = M' - 1 - K Ã 12
The following is my C# interpretation but my day result is always one day ahead, i.e., today is the 10th but my code is returning D=11.
Code:
int MJD = (start_time[0] * 256) + start_time[1];
int Y1 = Convert.ToInt32((MJD - 15078.2) / 365.25);
int M1 = Convert.ToInt32((MJD - 14956.1 - Convert.ToInt32(Y1 * 365.25)) / 30.6001);
int D = MJD - 14956 - Convert.ToInt32(Y1 * 365.25) - Convert.ToInt32(M1 * 30.6001);
int K = 0;
if ((M1 == 14) || (M1 == 15))
K = 1;
int Y = Y1 + K;
int M = M1 - 1 - (K * 12);
NLGrabXMLTV is a free command line program that downloads TV listings for the Netherlands and saves the data in the xmltv format, after correcting errors and removing information that has no function in GBPVR. The original source of the TV listings is http://www.tvgids.nl, but the data is downloaded from http://xmltv.assies.info/. This had two advantages:
- The download only takes a few seconds in stead of hours;
- It reduces the downloads from http://www.tvgids.nl (I think thereâs no advantage in grabbing the data yourself using tvxb or xmltv).
With NLgrabXMLTV you can:
- Select the channels youâd like to use;
- Rename the channels;
- Change the order of the channels by assigning a channel number.
To configure NLGrabXMLTV you have to change config.xml to your needs (use Notepad). The config.xml that comes with the download contains all the available channels from http://www.tvgids.nl. Remove the channels you donât need and change the order to how youâd like to see your channels in GBPVR. Next change node <outputfile> to the location where youâd like save the xmltv file.
After configuring, just run NLgrabXMLTV.exe to download your TV listings. Of course youâll need to setup GBPVR to use the specific file.
If you encounter problems, first check your logs in the NLGrabXMLTV Logs directory. If you canât fix it or you want to make a suggestion to improve NLgrabXMLTV, send an e-mail to the address you can find in the support.txt file, or start a thread on the GBPVR forum.
I'd like to thank Htv for testing this program and Gertjan for making these downloads possible. Htv and myself have both been using it for some time now and it seems to work quite well.
Am I the only person having problems searching the forum?
When I search for EVR no matches are found.......
Longer words (such as PVRX2) do work
Also searching for evr.dll does not find anything
when the screensaver kicks in the weather doesnt show unless i have checked weather befor it kicks in it seems like its not initialized or something like maybe the auto update isnt working.
I'm looking to install a fan or heatsink on my harddrive to keep it cooler. Does anyone that has any experience with these recommend anything for me? Of course I'd want it to be as quiet as possible... TIA
Just turned my computer on today and im getting a message saying that the VMR9 renderer is not supported on this system, when it has been working flawlessly for 2 months now?!
This is a fresh install of Vista x86 Business, I've installed the .net2.0 (it says: already included in operating system), then the vcredist_x86.zip (it says "wait while the redistributable is configured" and then quits without any further comment). Then I installed the gbpvr 1.1.5, it installs without error message.
After disabling Nod32 IMON module, the Recording service starts and then, after a minute or so its off again. The log says that (full log included as attachment:
Code:
2008-02-10 14:12:54.718 ERROR [5] FATAL UNHANDLED EXCEPTION:: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: the module was not found. (Exception of HRESULT: 0x8007007E)

bei System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart()
Installing the hotfix doesn't help. The hotfix says: "the upgrade patch cannot be installed because the program that should be updated cannot be found or the update expects another version ..."
Is there maybe another requirement by gbpvr? I have not installed the Windows media player.
