  Recent convert has problems...
Posted by: BigMoose - 2008-01-18, 08:07 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (9)

I'm a recent GBPVR convert from years of using myth and am on the whole very impressed with the software, I just have a few kinks I'm hoping someone here can help me sort out. I've been reading this forum for the last month and this along with the AVS one has really been a lifeline in getting as far as I have, so thanks to all those who contribute!

I'm running a celeron D 2.5Ghz, 512M RAM, XP 32 SP2, Skystar2 DVB (I'm picking up UK FTA channels), HD2600XT DVI/HDMI to a 42inch 1080p TV. I have Cyberlink PDVD (latest version I could find) and Nero8 also installed.

I have a few different problems, depending on if I'm using GBPVR.eve and the Overlay Manager, or PVRX2.exe and VMR9 custom. After reading lots on the AVS HD2x00 owners forum I gave up with 1080p resolution (even though it wasn't at all bad) and moved to 720p which made a massive difference to the SD and BBD HD channel in GBPVR.exe with Overlay manager - the news tickers are as good as the Skybox and the BBD HD channel plays very smoothly. With PVRX2 and VMR9 custom the SD channels are great, but the BBC HD channel is very choppy. Oddly when the OSD is visible the BBCHD channel looks smoother under, but the moment it goes, the channel is unwatchably choppy. Using VMR9 FSE the BBCHD channel is awful - green blocks everywhere and very choppy. Any idea why it looks OK when the OSD is up and not when it goes using VMR9 custom?

Other annoying problem is that GBPVR takes 15sec - 1min to start live TV (by which time the wife has moaned "why cant we just use the skybox?") but PVRX2 starts live TV within a second or 2. I'd rather use PVRX2 if I can sort the BBC HD issues out.

The final very annoying problem is that DVD playback is poor. It plays in Cyberlink PDVD and Nero fine, but using the cyberlink codecs for video and audio I get a stutter (both video and audio) about once a second. I've set everthing that gbpvr config allows me to, to be the same as in powerdvd but it's made little difference. I've got it down to one stutter a second from more so by using just stereo and not dolby prologic downmix - but I cant get it as good as just using the native app for love nor money. It doesn't give me the option to use Nero in the config program. Any ideas??

Thanks in advance for any advice!

  Streaming Live TV
Posted by: Slinwagh - 2008-01-18, 06:58 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

Is it possible to stream live tv from one system running GBPVR to another.

What are the requirement for the client machine, I am running Vista Ultimate 32 on the laptop I wish to be a client.

I currently have GBPVR running on one PC in my house, I would like to be able to stream from this to the laptop.

Do I just need to install GBPVR on the client on the laptop and do you then set one up the PC as a server so to speak?

Thanks !!

  Using GBPVR Without EPG
Posted by: TexasJack - 2008-01-18, 06:29 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (10)

Hello.

I have a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 which I use exclusively to record my children's home school lessons via satellite. It's very important that the lessons get recorded and I've found the software provided by Hauppauge to be very unreliable (maybe due to Vista?) so I thought I would try to use GBPVR for recording. The tuner is fed from the homeschool satellite box and receives only one channel: 3.

Anyway when I try to set up the capture card, it wants me to set up a EPG. Since the tuner is fed directly from the homeschool satellite feed, obviously there is no and will be no EPG. I tried to find something on wiki about not using an EPG, but with no luck. Anyone out there that can help?

Or.... maybe GBPVR is way too much for my simple needs and there some other (preferrably free) PVR software I can use. Thanks.

  MPV in Vista
Posted by: chrisv - 2008-01-18, 04:06 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

I installed the Vista Codec Pack which is supposed to include the MPV decoder. After installing, the MPV decoder is not available in Config. I even rebooted just to be sure. Has anyone been successful in using this decoder in Vista? If so, how did you get it to appear?

Thanks.

  HVR-3000 - DVBT & DVBS recording error?
Posted by: js2k - 2008-01-18, 04:02 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

Hi, I have tuned all channels for both DVB-T & DVB-S on HVR-3000 card and are able to view these channels on LiveTV, but when it comes to recording at the same time both fails (nothing is being recorded just two small files with channels numbers), if I records just DVB-T alone it will record but not DVB-S? Any ideas pls?

Patch for current NZ Freeview DVB-T trials
Posted by: sub - 2008-01-18, 03:53 PM - Forum: Community Announcements - Replies (14)

Due to some different audio options they're testing with the NZ DVB-T Freeview trials, the current app doesnt pick up all the channels when scanning. This is because of the AAC LATM audio they're testing. If you apply the attached patch it'll find those channels again. You wont get audio just yet, but it will at least find the channels and let you see the glorious high def pictures again.

  New OS hard drive
Posted by: elbryyan - 2008-01-18, 03:52 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (7)

I received a shiny new 500GB HD for the holidays and installed it for my recordings. The next thing I would like to do is upgrade the 40GB HD that the OS is on to use the old 200GB drive that I was using for recordings before. My question is, how do I save the configurations that we currently have such as the recordings that we have set up and so forth on a new copy of windows? Is it as easy as copying the database file and config file? I've tried the Acronis migrate easy 15 day trial to clone the drive but once I run thru the wizard to start the cloning process, once the machine reboots the screen just stays black and nothing happens.

Noob needs help - getting the most out of my tuner card
Posted by: Astantax - 2008-01-18, 03:04 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (20)

Hi all,

I'm totally new to this, and after spending some bones on some RAM and a Tuner card, I have sucessfully got it all to work. I can record shows, I'm using yapi to get the channel listings, etc. So far, so good.

My hardware is as such: 2.3 GHZ P4, 256 mb RAM (i'm still waiting on amazon to deliver an addition 512 megs, so ram upgrade is imminent), NVIDIA Geforce card (I'm not sure which, but I can find out), Audigy 2, and Hauppauge WinTV 150 MCE (kit with remote).

I have the cable (I think it's digital cable, but again, I'm not sure, and I'm not sure if it even matters with respect to my problem) from the wall split once to accomodate a cable modem. The line not going to my cable modem is then split again, one line for the TV itself, and one line for the computer Tuner card.

Even after buying the NVIDIA decoder codec and playing around with all possible settings in the playback config, LiveTV / recordings still look noticably grainy/distorted. I have it to the point in which there is no stuttering or jerkiness, but what I'm going for is to have TV look as good as my DVDs, which I'm playing through the same computer (they look great). I'd settle for at least as good as playback on my actual TV. Is this possible? Did I screw up and buy an outdated card? Is it the encoding on the card itself? Or do I just need a better computer / faster CPU / drivers / a miracle?

My TV is a samsung 32 inch LCD HDTV. I have it on 4:3 non-stretched mode, and yes, I know that analog signals on HDTV are lower-quality. What I am experiencing through the tuner card is lower in quality than normal live TV.

Thanks for you help! Sorry if a million people have asked this already. I did try a forum search, but it only yielded posts about 1,000 other scary problems I hope I never have.

- Brian
