  GBPVR and MCE2005 together
Posted by: Mattmannz - 2007-11-27, 06:57 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

First off, thanks for a great piece of software and I almost feel a little cheeky by asking my question below!

I have been running MCE now for a number of years and before that Showshifter. My partner really likes MCE, she finds it easy to use with the remote and only a few clicks and it does it's thing and it's important that anyone can use it easily.

I have a PVR250 in the MCE box running a Sky TV decoder with the MCE remote and irblaster. Using XMLTVNZ for an EPG source.

I recently added a HVR3000 to get DVB-S Freeview now and DVB-T next year when it's released.

MCE does not work well with dual tuners with only partial overlapping channel lineups and doesn't support DVB-S!!. After a LOT of fiddling I gave up and began looking for another PVR product.

I tried GB-PVR and pretty much out of the box it worked with both tuners, used the DVB-S transmission for the EPG and away we went!

Immediate impressions are that all the features are there but things seem to take an extra click or two to get running. My partner immediately disliked the interface after having been on MCE for such a long time. Things like the EPG search and navigation and recordings are not as simple as they are with MCE.

However the dual tuners thing is a killer for me so I am currently running a GBPVR and MCE2005 combo. I am using GBPVR to record all my repeating freeview channel recordings in MS-DVR format and saving them in the MCE2005 directory.

I am then using MCE to watch sky as well as the recordings that GBPVR generates. This is a pretty good compromise at the moment with the only downside being that the freeview only channels like TVNZ6 aren't available for live tv watching.

The problem I am having is making the show visible in MCE2005. The file doesn't get written to the final location until the recording has finished. Once the file is visible MCE won't update and show the file in the recordings view until I copy it off and back on.

Also the show data is incorrect, the show length and start and stop times aren't showing correctly in MCE. Anyone have any thoughts?

I will continue to monitor GBPVR as I think you are very close to making a very awesome piece of software that people would be happy to pay money for and a product that will seriously compete with Vista MCE.

Cheers
Matt.

Can't change STB channels via client PC or MVP
Posted by: JP23 - 2007-11-27, 03:45 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (8)

Hi

My main media PC is running GBPVR 1.1.5, and has a Hauppauge NovaT500 & a PVR150, the latter being connected to a sky box. I'm using MCE blasters and HIP to have GBPVR change the channel on the sky box and this works very well.

Unfortunately, however I can't change sky channels from either my other PC, also running 1.1.5 but in client mode, or from my MVP. If I choose one of the channels available via the digital tuners on the NovaT, it tunes correctly, but for sky channels they both simply display the channel that the sky box happened to be tuned to already, and there doesn't seem to be any attempt to blast the new channel number through HIP.

Any ideas how to fix this?

I've attached the logs from the host PC. They include me successfully tuning a few sky channels on the host pc, and then trying to do the same on both the second PC and the MVP.

Any help will be much appreciated, I'm really close to having my whole system working perfectly.

  Greenbay versus Dallas

Since the argument between NFL networks and Time Warner is not going to get settled any time soon, does anyone have a way I can remote in on a slingbox or GBPVR server so I can watch the game?
edit: Found a friend with dish TV that will stream it.

This is the second time that the cpu has gone 100% usage...it seems to be the recording service. Here are the logs. I believe I applied all the patches.

Sorry, still using an old version.

Thanks,

  MVP with Vista Home Premium
Posted by: guydot - 2007-11-27, 02:54 AM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (23)

I use the MVP for playback of internet files only. Every few minutes, the picture freezes for a few seconds and then continues to play. I use Zprocess, but I never had this issue with Win XP. Is this a Vista issue?

  Streaming Video?

Does anyone know any utilities for streaming the media on my computer other than the webserver built into GBPVR? Preferrably one that can stream in Quicktime's streaming format.

  demux's anyone?
Posted by: pBS - 2007-11-27, 01:59 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (22)

just had a breakthru moment, turns out the only thing holding back my system from easy HD playback was the DeMux!! not codecs, video cards, cpu...

well, like most systems, i was using the default MS demuxer, and that works well for sd content...but hd was acting like it couldn't get the data fast enough..stutters on both audio and video, making playback about half speed..

so i changed it to MainConcept MPEG Splitter [from pvr150 or MVP] and lo and behold! HD with little effort! Big Grin
HUGE difference in playback ease...fluid and everything seems correct in osd,skips,etc..

and now all my mpeg codecs work just fine...
i noticed this because i was playing a dvr-ms file in HD and it had no problems!
so i surmised that the only difference was the demux and tried another one..
Nero's splitter is really good too if you have that...
just go to config.xml and set

Quote:<PreferredMpegPlaybackDemux>MainConcept MPEG Splitter</PreferredMpegPlaybackDemux>
[that is if you have it installed]
use GSpot to see which ones you have...look for splitter or demultiplexer or demux..

for those of you who's HD playback is only good with .DVR-MS, try this and make mpg's with ati's muxer...works fine for me..not a problem yet..

Preview window doesn't match aspect ratio.

This is a long-running niggle, the video preview window (when inside a menu) doesn't respect the chosen aspect ratio shown in the full view. Could that be changed?

  Quick play on MVP
Posted by: jonrigg68 - 2007-11-26, 10:29 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (9)

Firstly I am new to GBPVR so appologies! I have tried ALL the others and (Meedio, snapstream, Sage TV, Myth Tv and MCE) and all have their good points and bad points...... however the only fault I have found so far on my limited use of GBPVR revolves around my 5 year old daughter!

she has a MVP for simplicity in her bedroom and the server is set up to use video library which is great except in order to play rather than highlight the thumbnail and press play she has to click it then select the file *.avi.... not too tricky you say, but she still hasn't got it. I have tried various plug ins, but all I want s a simple way to play from video library.... any one any ideas or am I going about it all th ewrong way.... I am not bothered about synosis etc as she knows what she wants to watch she just wants to select from the thumbnail.

thanks in advance..
