I attempted to setup GBPVR about 1yr ago on a Dell computer with a 2.8GHZ P4 HT with 512 ram. It had an ATI 9550 graphics card w/256mb Ram and a Hauppauge 150 and a Avermedia M150 for the capture cards. I was using Svideo for my output from the ATI. I was using the latest Nvideo Purevideo decoder. The HD had 80GB for recording content. I still have the machine.
This was through straight analog cable...no cable box. The video would get choppy and the picture was not as good as if I connected the TV directly. My spouse hated it. Although, she liked the ability to record shows. I got a cable box with DVR. We liked it.
So, I am back because the cable company's box is malfunctioning and I don't want to pay $15 a month anymore.
Here is my situation: I want to set something up that will work. I have a cable box with "digital" cable...but no HDTV. Can anyone provide some suggestions? Here is what I want to do....
Record one show and watch another...so two tuners. What capture cards..If I stick just to analog? If I want to be proactive for HD?
Be able to use one remote to change the channel on my cable box and manage my on screen menu.
Have the ability to do HD(eventually)...Video AGP cards? PCI express cards???
What are some video cards that work well for just analog? I may not make the leap yet to HD depending on the cost of the computer equipment.
I want it to run smoothly.... If that means I need to buy a different computer...I will consider it.
I noticed that as of today I cannot grab data from the Dutch tvgids.nl website. I'm using TVxb, which is one of the -friendly- tools (it tries to keep the traffic on the website in mind).
TVxb is using wget (a port from Linux to download web pages). I noticed that apperantly tvgids.nl is not happy with browsers identifying as wget... as soon as I change the agent-name I can download pages again!
example:
C:\Program Files\TVxb\bin>wget http://www.tvgids.nl -t 1
--21:15:34-- http://www.tvgids.nl/
=> `index.html'
Resolving http://www.tvgids.nl... 195.144.10.130
Connecting to http://www.tvgids.nl[195.144.10.130]:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response...
Read error (No such file or directory) in headers.
Giving up.
I just came across the XSuite and there is much I like about it but one thing drives me crazy. Along the bottom of the displays for XRecord and XSearch it shows functions that can be performed by pressing the colored buttons on a Hauppauge remote.
It would be much better if these functions were listed from left to right in the same order that the colored buttons appear on the remote control. (See Video Archive for a sample of how this should be done.)
I have several DVDs that are foreign language and require subtitles for me to understand what is being said. Is there a setting to have the subtitles displayed when converting the DVD to mpeg?
When a show ends, don't delete that file right away. This would allow you to rewind back if you missed the end of something. It would only do this if you are watching the same channel.
On the next program change (or when hitting stop or changing channel), delete the previous file.
Have got GBPVR working with a DVB-S PCI card and all the BBC and ITV FTA channels are coming in fine. Is there a way of getting Channel 4 (before next year) and Channel 5 with some sort of softCAM?
I don't mind buying a Freesat card from Sky, that's not the issue. I don't want to have to get a Sky digibox. No room, no room..............
If you're watching something that is recording, have it continue on that channel in TS play at the end of the recording. This would allow you to keep watching a channel continiously, rather than just aburptly ending.
If you're not watching a show that is recording (or if you have something recording next), it wouldn't do this.
Over the weekend I replaced my MVP with a dedicated HTPC. It works great except for as the topic title says -- I cannot view ATSC programs while it is recording. I have tried both the dvr-ms format and the cyberlink mux to no avail. The former does not play at all, and the latter is so choppy that it is unbearable. I have also tried a number of different playback codecs, but have settled on the MPV / MPA combination.
Some other relevant specs:
-> See server specs in my sig.
-> Client PC is a AMD X2 5000+ w/ 2 gig DDR2 800 RAM & ATi x1250 onboard video.
-> Television is an old 27" Trinitron over s-video
-> 100 Mbit connection between client and server. It should be gigE (not sure why - bad cable maybe?)
Once the recording has finished, playback works fine.
