First recording fails, subsequent ones are fine
Posted by: danIrl - 2007-09-26, 11:20 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Lately my recordings on HVR-900 have a serious stutter every second, rendering them unwatchable.

I have been playing around with various alterations, but have realised that the first recording (after a resume or restart) always exhibits this behaviour, but subsequent ones are fine!

I use my machine in hibernate mode and it resumes for scheduled recordings.
I have tried using wake.cmd to stop/start the recording service and my HVR-900 device, but it still fails. I even tried restarting the machine but the first recording is still faulty. Nothing I try short of leaving the machine on will fix this problem. I have also tried downloading the latest hauppauge drivers.

I also have a PVR-150 and these recordings always work fine.

Anyone experienced something similar with this or another DVB-T device?

  PVRX2 on a Pundit-r = Too ambitious?
Posted by: andydesheffield - 2007-09-26, 08:17 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (1)

Hello all,
I currently have a Pundit-r which includes the ATX 9100 IGP chipset for video.
It's been working for over a year now, but I've tended to use the video out on my PVR350 (which is stable as a rock on my system and superb quality!)

I want to switch to a DVB-S card (probably a Nova-S-Plus for the DisqC) and retire my Sky UK satellite receiver, just keeping the free channels.
I'm hesitating between just putting in the new card and staying on my old GBPVR version (0.97.7) or going the whole hog and upgrading to 1.016, switching to the integrated video out in the process. (I could get the 9100 to work with no stuttering and tearing after a struggle).

What I'd like to know is whether anyone has 1.016 running on a Pundit-r? In particular:-
1) Is it powerful enough to run PVRX2 smoothly?
2) Are there any issues around the Pundit-R not being fully Direct x 9 compatible (although it does run VMR9)
3) Have you managed to get mpeg acceleration of the ATI9100 to work and if so, with which version of the Catalyst drivers and with which codec?
Current system has a 2.4GHz Celeron with 512MB memory
Thanks a lot for any help

  Hidden features?
Posted by: hzwaal - 2007-09-26, 07:59 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (12)

Yersterday I played around a bit with the config.xml and I found some settings in there that cannot be edited using the config application. I was wondering whether this is intentional...

Anyhow, some of the settings are quite useful so they might be interesting for other people out there:

* <AutoPlayDVDs> will automatically start playing a DVD when one is inserted while GBPVR is running; works in GBPVR and PVRX2
* <TVGuideVisibleMinutes> can be used to make more that the default two hours visible in the TV guide; useful for large display with high resolutions. only works in GBPVR
* <MenuLayout> can be used to change the ordering of the main menu items. works in GBPVR and works somewhat in PVRX2 (is not entirely predictable)
* <TVGuideChannelHeaderType> can be used to select how to show the channel in the TV guide. Options are 0 (icon + name), 1 (nr + name), 2 (name only). Unfortunately, there's no icon only mode, although this could be achieved by tweaking the skin. Seems to work only for PVRX2.
* <ExitOnEsc> will exit GBPVR when ESC is pressed in the main menu; only works in GBPVR.
* <OverScanBorder...> can be used to draw a black border around GBPVR, if your TV-out signal is 'cropped' by your TV; works in GBPVR and PVRX2.

There are of course more options, but these I found of general interest.

Disclaimer: be careful when editing the config.xml by hand; you could screw up your installation. Be sure to make a backup before you start experimenting.

I think this have been a feature in older releases. But it does not seem to work in 1.0.16. Or have I missed some setting??

  PVRX2 Missing Video Overlay?
Posted by: R1Dave - 2007-09-26, 07:04 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

I've set-up video overlay for the weather and homeseer. Both work in GBPVR but not in PVRX2 (I always get the guide). Is this a current limitation in the new software?

EPG Support for windows media center 2004
Posted by: nerfhearder19 - 2007-09-26, 04:02 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (7)

I have Windows media center 2004 and wantted to know if there is a way to get the EPG to get the tv schedule from it. I have had no luck with Schedules Direct. I have also tried the MceEpg2XmlTv thinking it might work it didn't work.

Media Center 2002 keeps the TV guide info somewhere I don't know how to get it to use it in GBPVR.

  Impending Doom within 18 months
Posted by: grocer - 2007-09-26, 03:25 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (7)

I have GB-PVR set up and running quite nicely right now with a PVR-150, P4 2.4gh, 1 gig ram, it's own 100 gig hard drive, and an Nvida FX5200 running on my desktop with WinXP Pro SP2. If I replace the PVR-150 with an HVR-1600, how much grief am I in for? Should I plan a whole system upgrade? I do know that as I don't have cable or satellite, this whole setup will quit working 2/17/2009 when the FCC shuts off all analog broadcasts and currently I can't buy a whole house converter box (indeed, any converter box) to put between the antenna and the co-ax currently feeding the PVR-150.

What has been the GB-PVR community's experiences with OTA DTV tuners?

Disabling Vista Media Center Microsoft MCE remote
Posted by: andydrew - 2007-09-26, 03:19 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Here is what I had to do to disable the Microsoft MCE remote so that certain key presses don't launch Vista Media Center (eg. guide, start). I am running Vista Home Premium 32-bit edition. I previously had disabled the four Windows Media Center Services.

Follow at your own risk...

*check to see if the ehTray.exe process is running in the task manager, if it is - end task
*Browse to C:\Windows\ehome
*Look at the properties of the file ehTray.exe
*Take ownership of the file by changing the owner to the logged on user
*Change the permissions to give the logged on user full control of the file
*Rename ehTray.exe to ehTray.exe.old or similar
*Open registry editor (regedit)
*go to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
*delete the ehTray.exe entry

This should disable the ehTray process and keep it from adding itself back into the registry. If the file is not renamed, you can remove it from the registry and it will come back again on the next reboot when you press certain keys on the MCE remote.

You should now be able to use your Microsoft MCE remote with gbpvr on a Vista Media Center system without launching Media Center with the remote.

  Slight Centering issue
Posted by: chris316 - 2007-09-26, 03:07 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

Hey guys,

Im currently using 1.0.16. Works great so far accept for one thing...Im currently using the old interface and when I want to watch live tv the video on my screen is shifted a bit to the right with a bar straight up and down the left...I'm using an lcd monitor right now (16:10 ratio if it helps) and I was wondering what the issue could be. I'm using vmr9 now. I was using vmr9 fullscreen exclusive, which is centered, but there was this issue where my monitor would go out of standby every 30 or so minutes. Also whenever i ran my standby script using the power button gbpvr would lose focus. So im not sure if fullscreen exclusive would be best to use and troubleshoot those issues or stick with vmr9 and troubleshoot the off center issue. Any help would be awesome...thanks.
