  Hauppauge HVR-1800 Setup
Posted by: BamBam - 2007-09-08, 02:04 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

I’m setting up a new system, Pentium Duo with an HVR-1800 card. I’ve read all the posts I can find for QAM and the 1800 (and 1600) to make this work. So far I have had limited success. The 1800 card works well with the WinTV. Success with the QAM/WinTV combo depends a lot on the number of splitters that I have connected. This has been talked to death in the forums but I thought I’d add to it, line quality and the number of splitters does matter. I’ve found this true in any digital TV device. I’m still running my old GBPRR system so I have to share the wire for now but with 0 or 1 splitters, it works well and I get several good quality HD QAM sources with WinTV.

With 1.0.16 GBPVR, I have the analog channels working well using SchedulesDirect as the EPG source. My next goal is to get the QAM part working. I’ve tried all of the suggestions and patches that I could find in the forums. When I do the scan for digital channels, I find nothing.

Part of my problem is probably just not understanding how the digital half and dual tuner works. I have the 1800 analog half set up as a Direct Recording Plugindevice with the Board Number as “Capture Device #1” and (most of) the first 100 channels set up and working using SchedulesDirect as the EPG source. I say most of because not all of the first 100 channels are used by Insight here in Indiana. The digital half is configured as a second capture source as a “BDA Recording Plugin” and device type of “…1800MCE (QAM)” and Device Number “1”. This is where the questions start. Do I need to set up an EPG source for the QAM. I’ve tried it with SchDir and with None. If I use none I have to add at least one channel for the scan to work. Without a channel added, I get a message that my EPG source is not set up and the scan will not run. I’m not clear on how the digital mapping works, does it scan based on what is in the qam.xml file or what is in the Channels list or…….

I’ll stop for now. If I can get past this point, that may help. At least it will get me to the next question(s).

And I like the new interface. Makes GBPVR look more "grown up".

Thanks

  Custom Tasks not showing up
Posted by: lumpy - 2007-09-08, 01:16 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

I was testing a custom task and fired up the X2 interface and noticed it's not there. It shows us in the older gbpvr but not the newer X2

Is that a bug I just found or are custom tasks going to be dropped from the newer X2 interface?

  gbpvr command line switches
Posted by: lumpy - 2007-09-08, 01:06 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

Where can I find detailed instructions on the command line switches that gbpvr takes? for example gbpvr -import can it take a different filename as an argument? what is the syntax? I cant find it in the wiki.

Trying to make a import function for my offsite recording setup and I dont want to shut down gb-pvr to import the import.xml file into the recording-dump.xml

  No Pix on Live TV
Posted by: Paul D. Bellamy - 2007-09-08, 12:06 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (16)

I recently installed GBPVR 0.99.5 and YApi2XML, and for a while all seemed to work well. However, last night I tried to record a program, and found that the recording contained only static (snow).

I opened GBPVR and clicked on Live TV. Snow on all channels.

Many months ago, I had a similar problem, so finding the old forum notes, I realized that the video decoder may be missing or broken. So, I installed MpegDecoder012.msi which I obtained from http://sourceforge.net/projects/gplmpgdec. This fixed the problem that last time, but didn't help with my current problem.

I have reinstalled 0.99.5 and run regcleaners, rebooted, and even restored my system to a few days earlier. Didn't help.

In Config, under the Playback tab, I tried all the listed video decoders shown:
namely, GPL MPEG 1/2 Decoder, System Default, InterVideo NonCSS Video Decoder, and InterVideo Video Decoder. None restore the picture on Live TV.

Does anyone have suggestions? I'd sure like GBPVR up and running again.

  Wall mount a large TV
Posted by: dneprrider - 2007-09-08, 10:49 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (15)

I recently had to renovate a room that had original 1970s carpet and an ugly brick fireplace. I put down nice hardwood and covered the fireplace with cement to give it a modern look. Now I'd like to mount the 42" plasma TV on a wall in the same room and hide all the cables and equipment including the GBPVR computer in a closet on the other side of the wall.

I have built shelves for the equipment and installed electrical, phone and Cat5 cabling in the closet. Also installed a vent above the closet door to aid in air circulation.

The wall between the equipment room and where the TV will be located is about 6" thick and made of plaster.

Now for a question: Any recommendations on the best way to install the wires, VGA, HDMI, S-video, speaker etc from the closet to the TV on the other side of the wall?

I was thinking of using 2" plastic pipe inserted through the wall as a conduit.

Additional info:

The TV will be placed directly on the other side of the closet wall allowing for the cables to be passed directly through to the other side.

Last week I purchased a similar plasma wall mount to this one on ebay. The price was right.

So I will simply mount to the wall ensuring the mount is secured to interior wall studs.

Thanks for all the comments, good point on separating power from signal. Since I am going to all this work I may as well go the extra distance to minimize electrical interference.

2nd Question. How high do most users mount the TV? This might be a good poll question. If i only knew how to start a poll on the forum. ( I figured out how to set up a poll using the thread tools)

I am thinking of placing the bottom edge at eye level from the sitting position in my good comfy chair. Approx 26inches.
The kids think it should be higher up the wall. But I am worried about having to keep looking up.

What exactly is NV12? I searched google and it seems I should be using this instead of YUY2. I am using Dscaler 5. Is it suppose to enable hardware acceleration?

stream over EWA-- and utilize comskip information?
Posted by: toomanyhandles - 2007-09-08, 03:05 AM - Forum: NextPVR Enhanced Web Admin (NEWA) - Replies (9)

It would be nice to be able to stream a recording and still skip commercials; it there a way to approach this?

EDIT: I have just noticed that for the first time I can get the pause and _skip_ to work on streams; perhaps I didn't have a high enough priority assigned for that feature to work well before now- and I also just updated to 1.016, although that shold be the same build as I had installed for .9912.

so that helps!

  Zap2it replacement
Posted by: jman0918 - 2007-09-08, 02:56 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (3)

Ughh .... the free service has ended. I had to use the Google cache to find out the details.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE:
August 9, 2007
Zap2it Labs received many emails inquiring if television listings could be provided on a paid for basis once the current service is discontinued. Today we are pleased to announce an agreement that will allow for many of you to continue to have access to your personal television listings data.

In collaboration with Schedules Direct, a non-profit organization created by founding members of MythTV and XMLTV, an agreement has been reached that will continue to support the open source and "freeware" communities. As of September 1, 2007, there WILL BE an alternative television listings source for certain Zap2it Labs users who become members of Schedules Direct, which includes a membership fee.

While Schedules Direct will continue to support the open source community and the users of "freeware", it will not support users of "commercial" products, such as DVRs, that were purchased from either a retail outlet or a company that used Zap2it Labs as its television listings source.

For those of you who lived by the original spirit and intent of Zap2it Labs and wish to continue to have access to listings, we encourage you to visit Schedules Direct for more information at http://www.schedulesdirect.org

I poked around and it's currently $15 for 3 months. How old is this information?
