GBPVR Recordings Jerky - WinTV2000 Recordings Perfect
Posted by: Eoghan - 2007-08-11, 03:26 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (7)

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anybody had had the same experience I have had and if anybody could help me.

I've been using GBPVR for a couple of years now and I love it.

I've been using it with a Hauppauge Win TV PVR 350. I had lots of problems setting it up and it's a great card. Now, before you all roll your eyes, the problem isn't with this card. I know this card has caused many people heartache, and sub no longer supports it. However, once you do get it working it's excellent. Anyway...

My issue is with a Hauppauge WinTV Nova S Plus which I added recently.

Everything is working fine, but Live TV / Recordings are very jerky. Specifically, the audio is fine, but the video starts to lag and jitter, and it gets further and further out of sync. I'm not too bothered about live TV, but would like to get recording working properly.

I am using the TV out on the 350 to play it, but it's also the same if I don't use the 350 TV Out so I don't believe the 350 has anything to do with it but I'm open to correction.

The jerkiness is in the recorded file itself, it's not just happening when I play it back. If I play the file on my PC monitor (even not through GBPVR), it jerks in exactly the same places.

What I've discovered is that if I record a file in WinTV2000 (the Hauppauge application), the recording is perfect. And it records directly to MPEG, which is what I'd like to do in GBPVR, as then I can play it over the 350 TV Out, and I don't need to do any post recording processing. Also, both my test recordings (GBPVR and WinTV2000) were to the same drive at different times so it's not that. Also the 350 records fine to that drive. Right now by the way I haven't got the 350 even set up in GBPVR so they're not both accessing the drive or anything.

I don't know a lot about this, but I'm guessing that perhaps WinTV2000 must be using a mux, and that mux is better for the card than any other, and also that mux is recording straight to MPEG, which is what I want. I've tried the DVR MS mux under the BDA Multiplexer list on the Misc tab in config, and it's not as jerky as the cyberlink one, but still very jerky. Also it doesn't produce MPEG files, so post recording conversion is necessary which is something I'd rather avoid as I know it's highly experimental right now and hogs my system CPU to 100%. Right now I'm not doing anything special - this is plain vanilla recording.

So does anybody know what mux WinTV2000 is using and how I can get GBPVR to use it? I think that might solve the issue. Maybe I'm on the wrong track. Any ideas anybody?

I'm using 1.0.8.

I've gone through a lot so far to get this card working (the quartz problem, needed new files from MCE for tuning, and loads of other issues), but I'm stuck on this one. If anybody could help me I'd really really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Eoghan.

Very new user trying to figure this out (urgently)
Posted by: ajskhan - 2007-08-11, 02:29 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

SO, I went to gbpvr.com, etc and clicked download. I believe I was taken to a forum
http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?t=27623

I clicked the first link, ran it AND MY COMPUTER JUST IMMEDIATELY SHUTDOWN, then went through the boot process. As soon as I clicked the file, my screen went blank everything- first thought - virus, but just thought I would continue.'

I preceded to download and run second file, all went well.

Now I rebooted, I clicked on GB-PVR, and clicked LIVE TV and I get
"No channels have been set up. Please run the configuration utility...Use update EPG... etc"

So I right click on the "G" icon in my system tray icon, and I click "start config" - how ON EARTH do I set up channels  ?

Because now, when I click on my ATI bar on the far right, I get an error, TV cannot be started. That isn't a problem because I can just system restore, but I really want this to work.

Oh and, this is free software right, not some trial thing that I shouldn't bother getting set up because it will quit in less time than it will take me to adventure it?

My computer:
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.19GHZ
ATI Radeon Xpress 200
1.5 GB RAM (upgraded from 1gb)
250gb HD
Tuner:
ATI-TV Wonder VE 400 - yes it is ancient, but as long as it gets the job done... (PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME IT WORKS ON MY CARD!!!)

Please help
-thanks

Edit: oh and just uploaded logs, if you need them?

Edit2: Oh and this will be used with dish network (which is set up on channel 60 in my house)

Directly Tune a Source from main menu
Posted by: nitrogen_widget - 2007-08-11, 12:54 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

If you are using more than one input on the tuner card, svideo, coax, rca ect. You create a separate device for each source then you just go to the channel to watch it after you choose live tv.

Is there a way to create a button on the main menu to say go directly to the RCA input for a VCR?

I'd like the Live TV button to remain, I just want to add a button to specifically tune a source.

Recurring recordings - miss a day? (or 2)
Posted by: JonnyCam - 2007-08-11, 12:40 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

I record a show each day at 7am - which works great, but on the weekends the channel broadcats an omnibus of all of the episodes I ave recorded during the week, at about the same time - meaning it is also scheduled to record.

Can I exclude days from the daily timeslot option when setting up a recording?

I just don't want to have to remember to delete the scheduled recording, or the recording when I do forget.

Thanks

FATAL UNHANDLED EXCEPTION and long PVXR2 Startup
Posted by: jksmurf - 2007-08-11, 05:01 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

This is a once off but I didn't do anything beforehand, so I am curious about it. Started PVXR2 and it took a LONG time to start, 100% CPU and a lot of flushDatabaseConnections() inthe pvrx2 log.

Code:

  Another "Service Account" problem.
Posted by: Maxus - 2007-08-11, 04:35 AM - Forum: NextPVR Enhanced Web Admin (NEWA) - Replies (1)

Firstly I apologise up front for being so lengthly - it helps if you have all the info to start with

I'm having an interesting problem with EWA in an environment that seems to be a little different from most I've read about. The difference here is that I have a Windows 2003 Server running Active Directory for a Windows Domain. This Domain controller is also my file server. ALL my files are stored on this server as I have bucket loads of space available here.
I have a two other machines on the LAN that are members of the Domain.
System1 - Windows XP with Media Player and codecs installed.
System2 - Windows Vista with my Haupagge PVR500 and GBPVR installed.

When GBPVR records tv it records directly to a specific share on my file server. I had to make sure that the share had been setup with the correct permissions, so that the service that GBPVR runs under, could write files to the share - and this works perfectly! My other PC's and media players can access this share and play the content as one would expect.

The Problem:

When GBPVR runs under the "local system" account EWA works fine from both local access i.e. http://localhost:7647/gbpvr/guide.aspx and from the other machines on the LAN using http://system2:7647/gbpvr/guide.aspx BUT the share on the server dosn't understand the context of "local system" coming in from the network and thus the files are not saved to the directory. In fact GBPVR thinks it's recording - but it can't write the files to the share.

However - when I use a specific service account (which is a domain account with 'log on as a service' rights assigned to it, AND is part of the Domain Admins Group which means it is also a Local Admin) - GBPVR CAN write to the server share - BUT the EWA does not work. And from what I can tell it's not even starting. A netstat -b shows no port listening on 7647 where-as using 'local system', port 7647 is listed as listening by GBPVRRecordingService.exe

When comparing the logs in the gbpvr\logs directory the following error occurrs when using the Domain account to start the service:
ERROR [4] Error starting webserver: Could not load file or assembly 'GBPVRRecordingService, Version=1.0.2743.31033, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

The closest thread I've found on the forum is this http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=27117
I'm assuming that "anonim" has a Windows "Workgroup" as the fix was to create a username with the same password on both computers (which you can't do in a Domain - a domain account does this automatically) and the thread also suggests it is standard to use local system - this doesn't work - no rights to the network share

In a nut shell....
It seems that a Domain Account (even though it is a Local Admin and can log in as a service) can start the RecordingService service but can't start the actual web server because it can't find a specified file - yet when logged on as the domain account I can see and access all the files in the GBPVR directory....

Random thoughts...
1) Maybe a file in a directory other than the GBPVR dir is required - is anything installed in the Windows directories that is needed to start the EWA?
2) Perhaps I try installing Vista's IIS server but this looks tricky in itself...

TIA

plugin for EPG/EIT - is it possible?
Posted by: pvruser - 2007-08-11, 03:56 AM - Forum: Developers - Replies (9)

With all this confusion about zap2it going away i was wondering if gbpvr plugins could work to grab the EPG from the EIT. i did some reading and it doesnt appear too hard to implement at least by looking at some public specs.

the only question is how to access the tv stream while watching the channel/recording or at least while offline (not recording/watching live).

thanks!

  integrate gb-pvr into Meedio?
Posted by: debennett2 - 2007-08-11, 03:01 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (15)

Sorry if this has been asked before (I tried the search option of course with little luck). I was wondering a few things regarding launching gb-pvr and the interface in general before I download and try to get it setup:

1) Can I launch straight into the tv portion of gb-pvr and bypass any other extras completely?

2) Can backgrounds be changed in the interface to allow an integration with another frontend? (I'd rather keep on using Meedio as I have been since the myhtpc days)

Thanks guys.
