I am trying to use a Nvidia DualTV for playback of HD content. I'm getting the error mentioned above. I've seen the wiki article on the problem with hauppage cards, and I've tried playing with the capture board settings to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm also trying to use an hdhomerun, but haven't set it up yet for GB-PVR.
Just bought a Hauppauge Nova TD-500 twin tuner. I have the first device working fine and tuned in. When I set up the second capture source the second device is definitely found (shows when only show devices detected etc is on). I've tried device number 1 and 2 but I don't think this applies to twin tuners.
When I press map digital channels etc it gives a message "GB-PVR was unable to start the BDA device that you have configured etc."
OK - please don't shoot me before you have a chance to read the entire post...
While I am a newbie to the "roll your own" PVR software systems, I'm very adept with computer hardware, networks and other things techie.
I ask "Why GB-PVR" as a catchall to the following questions:
How does it compare to the mainstream apps like SageTV and Snapstream?
How stable is it compared to Linux based systems? Ialways worry a little with Windows running a mission critical app... (used to be a Novell Netware engineer... )
How much tinkering will be needed to make it cook properly?
MOST IMPORTANT... I need this drop-dead simple so that my lovely bride doesn't have to take a month to learn how to operate the system!
What do I need/want to do? Here's another list...
Be able to record at least 2 programs simultaneously
Distribute recordings to any set in the house
Distribute music to any location in the house
Have it be DROP DEAD SIMPLE so my lovely bride won't divorce me!
HD recordings? Perhaps, but not a deal breaker at this time.
I have 3 sets in the house now - 1 HD and 2 analog. Will be adding 2 more toward the end of the year when I'm done with the basement build-out, and they will be HD. Here's my current electronics setup:
Time Warner cable with HD DVR receiver - 1 set
TW cable box (standard) - 1 set
Direct cable connection to 3rd set
OTA antenna
Entire house is wired for ethernet (can go gigabit if needed)
RoadRunner cable internet access
Internal network with 2 servers, Smoothie firewall, and 2 client machines
I will most likely build the first PVR from one of my existing machines and then determine what I *really* want to build for my PVR machine.
Help me get over the hump and take the plunge on the "roll your own" PVRs. Tell me what I'll need to ensure extreme WCL (wife comfort level) and a short WAT (wife adoption timeframe). And yes, I used to spend long hours helping my clients understand what all these TLAs (three letter acronyms) mean...
Thanks in advance for any advice. Looking forward to a cool new project!
Hey all - added a wired MVP to my setup last night and had some questions.
The picture is superb! Even just using the yellow RCA video cable, it looks fabulous. Why can't my GBPVR picture be this good . I'm tempted to get another MVP for our main TV just because of the jump in quality.
I added a Buffalo wireless router to my existing wired network, with a Zyxel setup as a bridge and the MVP connected to that. It worked just fine testing with all the pieces in the same room. Then for the big test - I moved the bridge and MVP upstairs to our bedroom TV. Initial testing was good, the first time I tried live TV I got sound and a still picture. But I went back to the menu and tried a recording and it was perfect. Went back to LiveTV and it was fine too. Weee!
So 30mins later, the wife wants to see my handywork, but now whenever I select anything on the menu the MVP jumps back to "connecting to server" screen. It does this for 3-5 minutes, and I get the menu again. I can navigate the menu, but selecting anything causes this loop again. Any idea what might cause this? My guess would be the network signal strength?
When it was working - is there a way to jump to a channel #? I tried from the TVGuide and from LiveTV, but it doesn't seem to work. In LiveTV, I had it on channel 6, and I wanted to jump to channel 500. I push "500" on the remote, the numbers show up on the screen, but then nothing happens. I was looking for an enter key or something on the remote that I missed, but didn't see one.
I have a Motorola DCT-2100 cable box from Comcast and a Hauppauge PVR150 card. For those that have similar setups, which type of cable yields better video quality in recordings: coaxial cable or RCA's?
Can someone tell me what the best recording rename utility currently is? I'm wanting to rename my default filename recordings to something like Lost-s01e10.mpg.
I ran across Zrename and it failed to get some of the information and appears to not be in development anymore. I also tried AddEpisode but I had some problems with it also. If someone can tell me if there is a working renaming utility then I can try that one and work through any problems I might be having..
Is there a 'Settings' menu item in PVRX2, similar to that existed in GBPVR that allowed you to see how much disk space you had, hibernate, update the EPG and so on?
I am experiencing jerky OTA HD video using GBPVR (and the audio loses sync with the video, then quits altogether) with an HVR-1600. The video is less jerky using WinTV or WatchHDTV but still exhibits some of the same behavior. Any suggestions?
System:
WinXP SP2, Dx9.0c with quartz.dll fix
Athlon 64 x2 4800, 2GB RAM, Samsung SpinPoint 500GB, Gigabyte GA-M57SLI
MSI RX2600Pro video card, Catalyst 8.4 beta
nVidia PureVideo, hardware acceleration enabled
On-board sound out via SPDIF
I know the listings around here have a different channel number than what they actually are.
the cable boxes move the channels around for some reason. but if I just get the unscrambled channels on the PVR without the box (I dont have a box) then I will need to tell GBPVR to record a different channel than is in the listing.
I just want to know if this is possible before I go buy a new capture card.
