  DVB timeout
Posted by: soccerdad - 2007-07-30, 10:47 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

I got dvb working and now am working on getting it to push over through the mvp. I added the ATI mux and sometimes everything works great, but most of the time it tries to start a channel, the screen goes black and then it switches back to the guide page. I seem to remember that there is some time limit that the program allows for a channel to start. It seems like it takes a little to long do get everything started and it gives up. Is there a way to give it a little longer? I just can't find the thread with the answer. Come to think of it, it may be happening on the pc as well so it might not just be an MVP thing.

Problem when watching show while recording
Posted by: bbrother - 2007-07-30, 10:01 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

I am using 1.0.8 (with HVR-1600) and had a problem while watching a show while it was recording. I started watching show about 20 min after it started. I would just use the skip buttons to fast forward through commercials. Everything worked fine until I caught up to where it was currently recording.

The time shown as the total length of the recording was about 10 min longer than what the actual recording was. So when tried to fast forward video would then loop in a fast forward mode and no button press could stop it. Sorry if this is confusing having trouble explaining the problem.

Let me try to clarify with example.

-Program started at 9pm with 1 min pre padding and ended at 11pm
-At 10:15 total record time should have been 1 hr 16 min instead status shows
1 hr 26 min
-Not realizing the problem I try to skip past the 1 hr 16 min mark and then as soon as I pass it the video starts doing what looks like fast forwarding (not sure I think it might have been looping or something but it was playing fast and play, pause or rewind failed to recover from the error).

Thanks in advance for any help I love this software especaily the web access to the guide.

-Brett

  My wishlist
Posted by: WKleeven - 2007-07-30, 09:44 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (1)

1. Is it possible to see the cover of the cd playing when "mode" is adjusted to 1 big square on top and 4 small squares below?
2. Is it possible to play slideshows of pictures that are in subdirectories? (my pictures are in subdirectories with the date as the name.
3. Some way to show what music file is being played at the moment.

  1.08 minor problems
Posted by: WKleeven - 2007-07-30, 09:42 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (24)

After installing 1.0.8, I first got it working only on the mvp. Then I read a post that I had to run direct3d so I had to get a new driver for my ati 9550. Then also on the pc I got the new interface from 1.0.8 (before the new driver: gbpvr.exe came up which looked almost exactly like 99.12 and pvrx2.exe crashed on every manually start).

I have some small issues:
1. On the remote of the mvp, I can't change channels with the digits, only with channel up/down.
2. On the remove of the mvp, button "pictures" doesn't work at all
3. In for example music library (but also videos and photos), "[..]" (up one directory) counts as "1". So with 15 songs in a subdirectory "[..]" is "1/16".

Question:
In tv guide on the mvp (the television) the lines around the programs are very thick, it is possible to adjust (in config-file)?

"Start on second monitor" crash when there is no second monitor
Posted by: j3flight - 2007-07-30, 07:07 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Hey Sub:

Thank you so much for adding the 'start on second monitor' option. It works great for my setup (19" LCD + 480p CRT TV)

Small problem though:
Sometimes, I need to launch PVRX2 and see it on my LCD panel when I have the second monitor disabled. Previously, this would work fine - GBPVR would come up just fine on the primary monitor. Now, when I have only one monitor enabled, the application actually crashes before even showing the menu.

Any help? Thanks.

Graph Recorder Questions from Potential New User
Posted by: fyodor - 2007-07-30, 06:52 PM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (3)

Hi

I am considering switching over to GB-PVR from SageTV. Since I get a lot of my content from firewire, I had some questions on how well this worked.

1. How reliable is it generally? For recording? Watching live TV? Several of the PVR packages have different levels of success.

2.I noticed that the setup allows for different graphs to be used (high vs. low, etc). What's the motivation for this? Is there something that I should keep in mind when configuring it?

3. Can this be used with content that is dumped in mpeg4 formats? I'm thinking of transcoding lower quality content directly to xvid.

  Conversation about aspect ratios

mvallevand Wrote:Right, but I am not talking WSS, I am talking hard-coding a video output size on transcoded data. My preference is to let the mvp hardware control resolution and aspect ratio regardless of the dongle and let ffmpeg concentrate on optimizing the conversion saving a lot of CPU.

Martin

Of course I have been dealing with aspect switching mostly how it pertains to ZProcess. This is the way I understand it works...

AVI world

With MVP in 4x3 Mode, GB-PVR in 4x3 mode, 4x3 TV:
I have a letterbox AVI. Played with Hauppauge software, the ltterbox is zoomed in and sides cut off. With GB-PVR and ZProcess, the Letterbox is fit into a 4x3 rect, top bottom padded. The transcoded mpeg is stamped 4x3 and the MVP plays the 4x3 video (that is the letterbox plus top/bottom pad = 4x3)

With MVP in 16x9 mode, GB-PVR in 4x3, 4x3 TV
Same video automatically letterboxed when playing on Hauppauge software. With GB-PVR and ZProcess letterboxing still calculated in 4x3 rect but other positioning allowed. Seems that hauppauge 16x9 mode allows for more positioning. The 4x3 stamped mpg plays correctly on 4x3, displaying the top/bottom padding and leterbox

With MVP in 16x9 mode, GB-PVR in 16x9, 16x9 TV. Same 720x480 rect stretched out to fill wide screen. Wide AVI is calculated to have no padding, transcoded to fill 720x480 rectangle. TV stretches video to fill wide screen.

With a 4x3 AVI, ZProcess will add Left right padding, and when the finished 720x480 is unfolded to the wide screen, the 4x3 aspect ratio is maintained.

If the TV is set to autoswitch between apspect ratios, it would respond to the aspect switch encoded into the transcoded MPG. But in the above wide screen scenraios, the wide switch is always encoded, and it's ZProcess that decides Wide or Standard.

Question. Is it possible that ZProcess could transcode 4x3 avis with the 4x3 switch and 16x9 with the 16x9 switch, and the TV does the autoswitching? That way ZProcess would not be adding padding and leave it to the TV.

(I ask this because I was not able to test this on a switching TV)

MPG world
My feeling is that GB-PVR would have to send the Wide Screen or Standard switches to the MVP so the TV could switch automatically. And as I understand it, GB-PVR doesn't have any control of that swicth. It just passes the MPG stright over to the MVP
