sub mentioned that he would like developers to migrate from using c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\third party..." as a location for plugins that save data to that location...
As I start looking at rewriting some of my apps, I'd like to know a good default location that would be compatible with XP, MCE and Vista...
I think I would like to have my programs, temp files, and data files all located in the same place...
And out of curiosity, is config.xml and gbpvr.db3 moving their locations?
After almost a week of struggling with pvrx2 issues, I have gone back to gbpvr 99.12. I now can't fine the config or edit utility to customize(select background colors, button colors, etc) the ML2 screens. I seem to remember it was accessable thru the system button.....?
Has this not been incorporated in the new 6.3 ML2 release?
When the 'system menu' returns, it would be handy, if there were a button in the there to show status of tuners.
More than just the "recording now", "recording soon" on the main menu, this could (just like the tray icon) show specifically what each tuner is doing.
I thought I would start a thread where anyone and everyone could have some input into the redesign and rebuild on several ZTools.
I have always appreciated support and suggestions from ZTool Users.
ZProcess...
The biggest criticism I received for this program is its complex user interface. It all came down to screen real estate. And I wanted it to do ALL of the postprocessing and transcoding that was possible with GB-PVR.. (probably too much)
The primary use of ZProcess has been for maintaining the aspect of ratios for non MPG on-the-fly transcoding for the MVP. So that will be the main thrust of the rebuild.
I will be keeping things modular, rather than gathered and grouped with Tabs. The graphical adjustment screen should not be seen unless a tweak is needed. I won't be working with queues or comskip or other Post Processing tasks for a while.
The MVP helper with be called something else. ZProcess will probably be evolved and reintroduced as a shell for many Post Processing tasks, including redeveloped ZTools and other tried and true 3rd party post processing apps.
Setup and customizing will be the easiest. When called by GB-PVR to transcode, it will be much lighter and less obtrusive.
The aspect ratio tweak screen will be a plugin dll that can viewed and adjusted on the MVP - real time...
My wiki page is the first hit with Google already. And it's referenced on other HTPC forums. It's time to make this a little more accessible.
Bit of a complex question, hope it makes sense to someone.
My setup is HP PVR150-MCE and an ASUS K8V-SE deluxe motherboard with onboard AC97 (SOUNDMAX) and SPDIF co-ax output, which I feed to my Yamaha AC3/DTS HT 6.1 receiver.
It was a bit of a learning curve for me to get SPDIF working at all, and then AC3/DTS passthrough for DVDs, but mostly OK now.
I've tried lots of different codec setups (Cyberlink, Intervide Wincinema, Nvidia Purevideo, free ones etc.) and the combination that works best for me (smoothest playback, consistent sound) is as follows:
- Installed video codecs: Intervideo CSS (from Hauppauge), Nero Video (as part of Nero Digital suite) Intervideo set as preferred.
- Installed audio codecs: ffdshow, AC3Filter, Nero audio (as part of Nero digital suite). Both AC3Filter and ffdshow audio are set up to mix to 3/2+LFE, outputing on SPDIF and with AC3 and DTS passthrough.
In GBPVR Config:
Playback Video - Intervideo CSS, VMR9 Custom
Playback Audio - AC3Filter
Audio Renderer - Soundmax Digital Audio
DVD Video - System Default (nothing shows in the list)
DVD Audio - AC3Filter
Audio Renderer - Soundmax Digital Audio
Under GBPVR 0.99, this combination worked just the way I wanted, i.e.:
- DVDs (including those ripped to hard drive), and AVIs with AC3 encoding, play back (via AC3filter) with AC3 pass-through.
- AVIs with stereo soundtrack play back (via ffdshow audio decoder), remixed to AC3 3/2+LFE
- MPEGs with stereo soundtracks (e.g. recorded TV) play back (via AC3Filter) remixed to AC3 3/2+LFE
- MP3s playback (via AC3Filter I think) unmixed as PCM/stereo not AC3.
Why AC3Filter and ffdshow? Well, I use AC3Filter for AC3 DVD/AVI passthrough, and for MPEG remixing because using ffdshow sometimes causes my receiver to "twitter" between AC3 and PCM, with "broken" (if any) sound. I use ffdshow for remixing AVIs with stereo soundtracks because AC3filter just doesn't seem to do this.
Now I've just upgraded to GBPVR 1.08. Changed nothing else, used the old config.xml and rechecked all settings, but now MP3s play back like AVIs - i.e. via ffdshow remixed to AC3 3.2+LFE, instead of via AC3Filter in PCM stereo.
When I think about it, this is maybe actually kind of what I expect to happen, as I think that AVISplitter outputs the AVI soundtrack as MP3 - but it definitely worked before and doesn't now.
So the question is how I can get stereo AVIs remixed to AC3 3/2+LFE,but MP3s to stay in PCM/stereo.
I've tried everything I can think of and couldn't find any answers googling or searching the forums. I would really like mp3s to play back as stereo/PCM, but AVIs to be remixed.
Any help or suggestions gratefully received. And if I can help anyone else who's trying to get SPDIF/AC3/DTS working in a similar setup, happy to offer suggestions, just drop me a line.
ok, I finally got almost all the parts in for the computer and got it all setup.
I've spent an hour configuring gbpvr and what not, and I got the guide to display, and properly selected tuner etc.
When I go to live tv, it gives the following message: "Error: failure playing back file"
I have tried looking this up online, but no luck.
Also, if it helps, right now I am trying to just setup getting HD channels OTA with a twinhanDTV ATSC card (people said this works etc, and I dont think it's the card).
My pvr150 isnt in yet, so I havent setup the cable/sattelite part of my system yet, so I am focusing on the hdtv part.
I'm running 1.0.8 and would like to set up a client that runs on a laptop. I need some help with which dirs I should share and how to set them up.
The server runs fine on a pc. Do I need to change anything on that? Which dirs do I share?
On the client, I can view video files if I set the video library dir to a share on the desktop.
However I cannot view the tv guide or live tv from the client. I assume its just some share that need setting up. I cant find any help in the wiki so can you guys help please???
Thanks
Alan
When manually keying in stations (33 OK, 24 OK etc.) using the Hauppauge remote, the picture and sound using PVRX2 will be jerky, but will resolve itself in 15 to 45 seconds. Using the channel up and down buttons on the remote works fine. Using the keyboard there are no problems, there are also no problems using GBPVR.exe with the remote. This problem appears on both the computer monitor and on the TV.
The only changes I have made to config.xml is changing <StartOnSecondMonitor>false</StartOnSecondMonitor> to true.
I have tried many different decoders and render settings, with no improvement. The problem is only with PVRX2 and not with GBPVR.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

First let me say thanks to everyone who makes GBPVR possible. Your efforts with this tool are truly appreciated. I've made the jump and am now using 1.0.8, and I love a lot of the new features. I have discovered a small problem, tho I cannot be sure it was introduced with 1.0.8.
I would like to schedule a season recording (all episodes on this channel) for a program titled "Charlie & Lola" -- when scheduling this recording through the UI, it appears to have scheduled, but no recordings ever go to pending status. When attempting the same action through the web interface, I get a recording failed message in red at the top of the screen. As far as I can tell, there are no conflicts with time/etc.
I'm wondering if anything changed with the architecture where the ampersand would have to be escaped (\&, {&}, etc) in order to save.
I'm using ZAP2IT to get listings, through GBPVR.
If anyone has any suggestions for me, or if I've found a legitimate bug, please let me know.
As a side note, when using the new executable included with 1.0.8, overlay mode doesnt allow me to use buttons onscreen during playback. Sadly my PVR is not powerful enough to support other modes, or if it is I havent figured a way to make it work well.
