READ EVERYTHING BELOW CAREFULLY!!!

Todays release includes a huge amount of change. GB-PVR's user interface was its weakest attribute, and the thing usually the thing identfied out by users and reviewers as 'lacking', often pushing users to seek out alternative applications. This version includes an entirely rewritten user interface, though based on most of the ideas of previous releases, so it still feels like the same app. This new interface will give the app a lot of room to grow in the future.

This new user interface comes as a new executable (PVRX2.exe), which should be treated as a public 'beta' of sorts. It's in pretty good shape, but there is bound to be bugs. The new user interface also doesnt contain all the features of the old application yet (missing fm radio, net radio, youtube and couple of other more minor things). I'll leave up to you guys to read the feedback and decide if you want to install this release.

Other than the new PVRX2.exe executable, the rest of the release is solid and is pretty much v0.99.12 plus a few minor bug fixes. For now, the release also includes the old GBPVR.exe user interface for those that need it (ie slow machines, stability problems, WAF, fear of the unknown etc), but this executable will no longer be maintained or actively supported in future.

The new user interface is Direct3D based, with much improved text rendering, a few simple animations etc. Unfortunately this comes at some cost... So, appologies to those with slow machines or using the PVR350 tv out - this is may be the end of the road for GB-PVR for you.

MVP users dont need to worry. The MVP is still supported, and the release also includes an entirely new MVP server.

If you're upgrading, I highly recommend you backup your gbpvr.db3 and config.xml (& bda.ini if you're an HDHomeRun user).. If there was any release to do this backup first, this would be the one.

I'd also recommend switching back to the default 'Blue' skin before upgrading.

Before installing the new release you need to install http://www.gbpvr.com/vcredist_x86.zip

You can download the new release from http://www.gbpvr.com/GBPVR10008.msi

BTW, post support questions in the support forum rather than here in this thread.

  installation notes?
Posted by: pvrdude - 2007-07-06, 01:06 PM - Forum: Forum Issues & Documentation - Replies (8)

Okay, could someone offer me their expertise and knowledge regarding installation of the software but also the capture card files (related to their capture card)?

I did read the notes and the wiki but I'm still somewhat confused and unclear about the steps (which is first etc.).

It's not a big deal but I will briefly describe where my confusion lies. I have downloaded most of the necessary files. I have a Hauppauge PVR 150 (1047 kit) and SA Explorer 2000 digital set top box. So, I went to the Hauppauge website and downloaded the driver and required IR files. But, I don't need everything there, do I? I will be using GB-PVR and not the WinTV software for the most part. I tried to find info explaining which parts are needed and which are mostly WinTV and not really needed. One other thing is I am unsure of which order of installation I need to use. Do I install the hauppauge drivers and the IR blaster files/programs BEFORE or AFTER I install the GB-PVR software? I'd rather do the installations correctly rather than have to uninstall anything. Also, I chose to use the Beta drivers and files from the Hauppauge website. Is this idea adequate? Perhaps, I should ask somewhere here (not necessarily this forum section) whether I should use the old files or if it's okay to use the beta.

I think most of my confusion surrounds the wiki documentation in which gb-pvr includes the setup and configuration of the pvr card (one has) but I am not sure where the programs and files from the capture card manufacturer (in this case, Hauppauge) fit in. I suspect I install these files first and then install gb-pvr?

For e.g., in 'Quickstart', I read before installing GB-PVR, I should have the pre-requisite software installed and this includes 'capture device that supports MPEG-2 encoding.' Does that imply I need the hauppauge drivers and required IR blaster files installed first? If you use the hauppauge pvr 150 card or another hauppauge card with similar setup, could you offer me the steps you took?

I am using Windows 2000. So, all steps should relate to the requirements under Windows 2000 OS.

I hope I covered everything and that this forum section is acceptable to post these concerns and questions.

  Can I probe recording?
Posted by: aiacel - 2007-07-06, 10:28 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (6)

I have a button on my desktop that start a windows utility to hibernate my PC. The problem is that this utility hibernate the PC while GBPVR is recording too.
Is there a way to test the status of GBPVR (i.e. like a command line) to stop the batch file?

Thank you for any advice.

  TitanTv Remote Schedule For GBPVR
Posted by: UncleJohnsBand - 2007-07-06, 06:25 AM - Forum: Developers - Replies (51)

I pulled together the following which allows registered TitanTv users to schedule a program on TitanTv.com and have GBPVR record the show.

UPDATED: 2007-07-09

  • Added trap for Web Service exception when TitanTv Web Service is down so that the service does not crash.
  • Moved GBPVR Schedule Generation Code into its own library for ease of maintenance.
  • If you have installed before you do not need to overlay your config file....no changes there.
The attached is a service that runs in the background and monitors TitanTv.com for your remote schedule requests.

Consider this a beta.

You will need to enter a PartnerId in the config for this service to work. The PartnerId is the id assigned by Titan to the vendor of your capture card. I do not have a list of these numbers but I have heard they are in postings and available via Google.

You can set how often the service polls for new schedules as well as the recoding quality that should be used and pre/post padding.

Let me know what you think.

Instructions: (Also in text file in the archive)
1. Go to www.titanTv.com and create a user account for your desired tv listings.

*Make sure to go into your Account Profile option PVR/Tuner Device Preferences.
*Set the setting for Remote Scheduleing Settings. If you do not do this then you will not see the option to schedule on TitanTv.
*Remember your userid and password.

2. Unzip all the files from this archive into a temporary directory of your choosing.

3. Copy the following files into your GBPVR Folder:

TitanTvInterface.dll
TitanTvInterface.pdb
GBPVRSchedule.dll
GBPVRSchedule.pdb
TitanRemoteSchedle.exe
TitanRemoteSchedule.exe.config
TitanTvRemoteSchedule.pdb

4. Edit the RegTitanService and RemoveTitanService batch files so that the variables are set correctly.

First variable should be your GBPVR path (this is only in the regtitanservice batch file)
Second variable should be the name you want your service to appear as in the Service dialog (this is in both batch files)

5. Setup the TitanTvRemoteSchedule.exe.config file.

*The default GBPVR database type is SQLite so you probably do not need to change this setting....only if you are still using Access.
*Set whether or not you want to log to the Event log. (default is true)
*Set how often you want to check for remote schedules on TitanTv.com. (default every 1 minute)
*Set the Partner information for using the service. You only need to enter the PartnerId. This is the id assigned to the vendor of your Capture device.
*Set your account info from TitanTv.com. Just your userid and password need to be set. The UUID will automatically get populated for you.
*Set the post/pre padding. (default is 0)
*Set the recording quality. (default is high)

6. Run the batch file regtitantvservice. You should see a message indicating that it was sucessfully registerd.

7. Start the Services dialog (start/control panel/adminstrtive tools/services). Scroll until you see the service name that you had in the
batch file. Right click on it and start the service.

8. You are done.

Now when you schedule a recording on TitanTv you will get a Manual Recording set in GBPVR.

Can Mpeg4 hardware encoders be used with GB-PVR?
Posted by: GLO - 2007-07-05, 11:37 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (10)

Hi,

I have recently purchased the USB Mpeg4 Grabber GA-VD207 and it seems to be a great USB device to make Mpeg4 DivX vids!

But there is something i really need help with!
I can record a video file but the software that comes with it does not appear to have an 'Timed Recording' Option. For example, i can start the recording, and i want it to stop 2 hours later automatically.

Can GB-PVR software allow me to use the USB Mpeg4 Grabber to set the recording length or even a scheduled recording time? It can also hardware encode Mpg2 but naturally i prefer to use the Mpeg4 DivX setting.

Here is a direct link to the Taiwanese manufacturer.

Thanks

  What am I missing>?
Posted by: grangeomatic - 2007-07-05, 09:42 PM - Forum: GameZone - Replies (2)

OK,
I have to admit to being pretty new to GBPVR. I’ve got the basic functionality working, and it works very well. Now I’m trying to tweak things, and this Gamezone plugin seems to be a nice addition. I’ve got the MAME and Kega working by themselves on my computer (thought the MAME is a bit choppy at times, but that’s a different issue). Now I go into the config applet and activate the appropriate emulators. I indicate where the appropriate .exe files are, and indicate where the roms (zipped) for the different emulators are stored (I put the Kega roms in a different folder than the MAME roms).
When I run GBPVR and go the Gamezone button, it tells me to pick an emulator. MAME and Kega are both there, but when I pick either of them, it tells me there are no files to choose from. I may very well be missing something simple, but I can’t seem to figure it out.
Update – I’ve been able to see some of the games, but when I try to run them through Gamezone, it tells me there are files missing. I know I can get the Kega ones to run on their own outside of Gamezone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

I was on the gbpvr.com home page and saw in the "Latest forum posts" top right of the page, "1.0.7 release candidate" which obviously caught my eye, but when I click on it it won't let me read it... am I missing something obvious?

Jon.
