I migrated to this from ReplayTV. There is a user supported APP for ReplayTV (a great PVR btw), called DVArchive (see http://www.dvarchive.org). It provides a PC environment to schedule and copy shows off a ReplayTV.
Features to look at:
1. does a GREAT job of loading the zap2it guide data AND does wonderful conflict resolution
2. Allows multiple directories for storing shows (250 gig goes quick!)
i restarted the computer and restart the MVP and it says
1.contacting the mediaMVp boot server
then,
2. Contacting DHCP server
then back to step one in a loop
and get no further,
just back and forthe between the two.
I have no idea if I have a hardware problem now, so Im just tyring to get stock MVP software working first, but no luck. Was running fine, then had some computer changes, but service running, firewall off, router fine.
I have an ongoing random issue, some of my records go wacky (basically simulates bad reception) I had 2 recordings this morning go real bad (reception so bad I could even see anything) I don't thinks its reception though because it seems to happen between 9:am - 9:30am normally on channel 33, but this morning from 9am to 10am on channel 5 both my recording went real bad. I wonder if one of my tuner cards are going bad.
Which log can i check to find out which tuner did the recording? Thanks
I have uploaded a new alpha dongle which thanks to Sub's guidance should prove to be much faster for the normal emulation mode screen display Because of these Hauppauge specific changes, I don't expect screen displays to be much different then the Hauppauge dongle, except when the forced pause on the remote key happens every 10 seconds to avoid collisions and increase stability.
I don't know where Sub finds the time to do all he does, but I am grateful.
This dongle (hopefully) has also fixed the PAL start up so the blue mvpmc splash should look okay on PAL TV's. I can't test PAL right now so feedback on this is welcome. If the splash is still distorted, you probably have to load the Hauppauge software and dongle and store the PAL setting in flash using their Setup option. Some of you might want to change the default aspect ratio too. The splash is onscreen before mvpmc and the config are loaded so mvpmc's command line PAL option will not make difference.
I recently installed EPGExtra to help locate a problem with my Zap2It feed. EPGExtra enables GBPVR's SaveZap2itXML, causing GBPVR to create C:\Zap2It.xml with each EPG update (which is what I wanted).
The problem is that on my system C: is a very small FAT16 volume used only for booting. I'd prefer to have Zap2It.xml created somewhere else, such as my GBPVR install directory (why isn't it saved here by default?) or even the root of the drive on which GBPVR is installed.
I'm a new user of both GB-PVR and MediaMVP. I want to be able to watch both NTSC and PAL content.
I looked at the GB-PVR settings, and couldn't find a place where NTSC/PAL can be selected. I noticed an option called <MVPVideoStandard> (which is set to 'auto') in config.xml, but it has no affect. How do I know? I transcoded an AVI using FFMpeg with exactly the command line specified in <MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLineNTSC> (The AVI is 23.976 fps, so it's better to transcode as NTSC), and the result played with blocks of errors - the same error I got when I tried playing an NTSC MPG file on the MediaMVP while it was set to PAL (with Hauppauge's server software, before using GB-PVR).
I tried setting the <MVPVideoStandard> to 'ntsc' (and restart both the recording server and the MVP), but it stayed in PAL. I confirmed this by stopping GB-PVR, starting the original Hauppauge server and switched to NTSC. Then I restarted GB-PVR and the MVP, and indeed, it was in NTSC - now NTSC movies played fine, and PAL movies were distorted.
Why? The NTSC stuff is usually film based, so it's 23.976 fps (let's say 24 fps for simplicity), if I transcode to PAL, the transcoding process would add an extra frame every second, and this is quite annoying, especially when the camera is panning from side to side (Note: real conversion from film to PAL usually means speeding up the projection to 25 fps, I don't know if FFMpeg can do that - it requires careful handling of the sound, as it has to be resampled for this).
So, I have a question, and a wish:
Question: Is there a way to switch between PAL and NTSC using GB-PVR and the MediaMVP? It would be best if I don't need to rstart the unit when doing so.
My wish: That the 'auto' option would work like a multisystem DVD player - when a 23.976 or 29.97 fps content is detected - the unit broadcasts it in NTSC, when a 25 fps content is detected, the unit broadcasts it in PAL. Some DVD players allow for on-the-fly conversion between PAL and NTSC but (for the reasons explained above), you loose quality in the process.
Note: My intention is to mainly use PAL content from ripping my toddlers DVD collection (their DVD scratching capabilities are extremely high, so I want to keep the media as far from them as possible), so I expect no transcoding on PAL content.
first and foremost i must say that gb-pvr is a great program and with the help of the wiki and the members of this forum i had it running and capping in less than an hour
but since then i'am been trying to get my caps to look more like my ntsc digital cable source but i keep getting caps that look more darker, blurry
does anybody have this card that lives in ntsc land that could help me set the right settings in Hauppauge tweak tool
my source is pretty clean i dont have any noise that i can notice i'am using a s-video connection from my digital cable box directly to the tuner the driver version i'am using is 2.0.43.24103
the colors dont look right either are there any programs out there i can use to help me calibrate the color settings to get optimal color levels
i installed the latest version of GBPVR (99.12) and the latest test version of VA (2007/04/03) and i am getting an error when starting the VA plugin. config and error logs attached...
