Just received my OnAir GT and have been reading the main thread covering the product. I notice that a number of patches to gbpvr in order to get it working. Are this patches still necessary or does the latest version of GB-PVR incorporate them? If not, can someone steer me to the appropriate patches.
Secondly, does anyone currently have two GTs connected? If so, any success in getting them to record at the same time over USB 2.0. I have a second GT coming and would like to see two GTs work with GB-PVR.
I had my machine configured as a client and when I went back to standalone mode the tray still showed the capture cards on the server when I doubleclicked on the tray icon. In the config.xml I noticed the recordingservicelocation was still set to the client machine. I manually changed this to the local machine and now it works fine. Did I miss a setting somewhere that would have made this easier?
I'm about to the end of my rope with this, so I apologize upfront for my irritated attitude :o
Something is causing the RecordingServer to quit sending the channel changes to the USB-UIRT in the middle of it, which ultimately means recordings are failing not because the channel didn't completely change but because the recording service just went off into lala land. Tonite, we were watching LiveTV when I went to bring up the live guide at about 6:56pm and GBPVR just closed... no error, nothing, I see the desktop. I reopen GBPVR and we start watching the currently recording "My Name is Earl" (started at 6:55). Had to pause the TV for a few minutes for a fone call. By the time we finished Earl, we tried to watch The Office (which was supposed to start at 7:30) but noticed that it hadn't started recording yet... was still pending, yet the time was 7:38. I exit GBPVR and see that that tuner is sleeping. Lovely. Restart the recording service to try to salvage what was left of that show and hope I caught the other show that was still recording during a commercial
GBPVR.EXE-2.log indicates a crash at 6:56pm
GBPVRRecordingService.exe-1.log indicates it tried to transmit the channels to the USB-UIRT but never finished at 7:30pm and just wasn't doing antyhing when I restarted the service at about 7:40.
Then if it isn't missing recordings, either the GBPVR.exe or recordingservice.exe will randomly peg the CPU at 100% once or twice a week and I have to restart the recording service to fix it.
Ever since the switch to .net 2.0, I have just had an unreliable POS for a PVR. I complete rebuild and it worked fine for a few weeks, then I'm back to crap. The plugins that set a PC based PVR apart from a DVR... yeah, I haven't used in the last 4 to 5 months for fear I'd mess up the box even more than it already is by installing them (weather, video archive, etc). I could see if I used this box for other things and cluttered it up with crap... but this is a dedicated box that sits by the TV and is used for nothing but PVR duties.
So I'm ready to start over with new hardware (motherboard, cpu, ram, HDD) and use the existing two PVR150s and USBUIRT. But I'm really unsure at this point whether I should just throw in the towel and fork over the $$$ I'd spend on the new hardware for a DVR and subscription... easily 1-2 years worth. Or maybe I should go back to using a pre .net 2.0 version as I was okay with the quirks it had. I was just tempted with all the new fancy features and the rest is history. I had fun designing the ContourHC skin, and have occasionally been working on another, but I can no longer say to friends and family "hey check out my new skin or new features" because every time something quits working during the presentation or while they're trying to use it on their own. If you would have asked me a year ago, I'd have sat your ass down on the couch and ran you through all the cool features and shown off my uber skinning skills LOL
For those of you that have made it this far thru my novel, maybe some of you have tried a DVR from Comcast or Dish Network. If so how is it? All we want is season recordings, from atleast two sources, of our favorite shows and the ability to timeshift occasionally. What are some of the downsides to them? I don't care about saving the recordings to a computer, commercial detection, DVD ripping, music library ... we've lived without for 5 months, we're fine with that. ...Or do you think I should just start over (again) and try some new hardware??
Is anyone having an issue with their recordings? My issue is if I am watching a recorded show and want to stop it before it is over, it just locks the machine. Then I have to hit ctrl+alt+delete, and then in task manager it says that GBPVR is not responding. Then I have to kill it and restart it. It does this no matter what recording I am watching. Any advice or assistance is apprieciated. Thanks

I got gbpvr up and running, and so far like it (much easier to use than mythtv). I'm trying to set up a procedure to convert recordings to something I can use on my pda or mp3 player, and I've noticed that the video has a reddish cast when played in windows media player, with or without re-encoding (using mencoder)
and yet the video looks fine when played from gbpvr itself. I searched quite a bit and couldn't find anything about this - is it just me? (or am I not describing it right in my searches...)
I've been experiencing a new problem with the v0.99.5 release. If i try to manually stop the GB-PVR Recording Service, it will not completed unless i kill the GBPVR.exe process. I've tailed the gbpvr.exe.log, GBPVRRecordingService.exe-native.log and GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log simultaneously and nothing is written to any of them while things are hung up. Any tips? This is not a real "problem" per say... it only comes into play if i need to stop the service in order to install an update to the EWA.
I have some dvd movies that are broken up into multiple files. All of these files are located in a folder named after the dvd. Is it possible to use a custom thumbnail for the folder? I know that I can provide a custom thumbnail for each video file, but it would be easier if I could just provide one just for the folder. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...
Here is a patch for the Ajax code in EWA.....chud had found that the last release of EWA caused a steady increase in the memory that the gbpvrrecording service. The memory wasreleased when EWA was closed.
It appears to be some calls the Ajax code was doing were staying in memory......so I recoded how the call was being done and it appears that it may have addressed the issue.
Feel free to try it out and let me know if you memory in the gbpvrrecording service stays fairly static after the initial EWA load.
Followed GBPVR and made the internal MusicLibrary2 logs appear in the logs directory
Added configurable screen layouts rather than the default Artist/Album, Genre/Artist etc.
Added Composer as a tag (usable in the above configurable screens).
Made the noindex.txt file name configurable (exclude file)
Made exclude file recursive
Changed random playlist code to limit the number of tracks returned to a random set based on the average track length - should speed random playlist creation
Added a Remove (All) Option - which removes the âAllâ option from the left hand panel - should made start up faster for those with large collections
NOTE:This version will re-create your database so for users with large collections the update will be pretty long!!
