Long show info text in OSD
Posted by: davo80 - 2006-11-28, 07:58 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (9)

Hello,

I read and searched through the forum but didn't find an answer to this (I'm sure there is but this is a bit like the needle and haystack problem):

When showing show information in the TV guide or in the info bar during live-tv, the show text is soooo long that it is not showing up completely.

Is there a way to make it scrolling?
Should I use a different skin?

Thanks for help and suggestions.

davo

[offtopic-praise the dev-mode]I recently installed my Hauppauge PVR350 in an old PIII 800 Mhz. I played around with mediaportal, but it was too slow. Then I skipped to Myth on Linux - but I didn't get the card to run - my ignorance probably.

Some days ago, I 'discovered' gbpvr and so far I'm very happy. Thanks to the dev!! I can watch live TV, I can import show information (using jxmltv to build an xml file, i used freqcopy to get the channels right - i live in belgium), I can record and everything. I only get a choppy image during the 2 first seconds in live tv - after that it's pretty smooth. At this moment, I have it running on my monitor.

I'll try to use the TV-out of the PVR350 tonight - but after reading here, that might be a no go. We'll see. I might ebay for a FX5200 card if it doesn't work.

The hauppauge remote (45buttons) also works. Teletext works.

So far: thanks - I love gbpvr.

  MVP Transcode
Posted by: Hunter Sun - 2006-11-28, 06:14 AM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (24)

Howdy,..

I've been playing around with some of the transcode options for ffmpeg. Wondering if anyone else has tried this line. It's seemed to work remarkably better for me under NTSC.

<MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLineNTSC>-y -i "{SOURCE_FILE}" -b 2400 -ac 2 -s 352x240 -f vob -vcodec mpeg2video "{DEST_FILE}" </MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLineNTSC>

I've actually had some ability to rewind (skip reverse works better). Though it can still lose audio sync.

Sub,
I was wondering if you have any thoughts of adding the MVPFFMPeg Transcode as a setting to the MVP Specific settings section. In playing around I've noticed I can adjust the padding however, I have 3 different TVs and each one takes a bit different setting.

  Vongo/MVP
Posted by: ChrsDrn - 2006-11-28, 02:35 AM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (13)

Vongo does not seem to support Media Extenders like the MVP, I want to be able to watch vongo on my big screen downstairs from my comp, so I thought that I would run an S-vid cord from output of my video card to input of my PVR-500, I mapped a channel to s-vid, unplugged my monitor restarted my comp started MVP with the GBPVR software and went to live TV to the channel that I mapped to S-vid, I got static and red screen sometimes. should this haved worked?
Thanks
Chris

can anyone help explain this data?
Posted by: glitch - 2006-11-28, 02:09 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

I'm recording 1 hour long shows and editing commercials to bring actual mpeg file time down to about 42 minutes. With my previous software (ATI software) a 1 hour show would be about 2.9 gigs in size. That was using 8000kbps (CBR if I remember correctly; CBR is what I use in gbpvr), DVD quality (29.97, 720x480), 96kbps 2 channel 48khz audio. After editing the file down to 42 minutes the size would drop just about 1 gigabyte.

For some reason using the same settings with gbpvr I don't get the same file settings. Unfortunately the file sizes are larger and therefore I may have issues with getting 2 edited mpeg files onto a single DVD like I could using ATI software. The files created using ATI are actually 1 hr 5 min due to padding that I added and yet they are still 600 megs smaller. The file size with gbpvr is about 3.7 gigs for a 1 hour unedited show and 2.5 gigs for a 42 min version of it. Two 2.5 gig files won't fit onto a single layer DVD. I've tried to modify audio settings and change to VBR for video and I still can't get the edited file size down below 2.5 gigs or so. Why would the gbpvr software create a bigger file (by 600 megs) while using the same settings as ATI? (Granted, for recording with gbpvr I have to use 192kbps for audio bitrate but then I reencode using 96kbps to match the other files I already have but 192 vs 96 shouldn't mean a 600 meg difference) Could the keyframes be spaced differently with gbpvr?
