I'm trying VA on a client machine. I've gone thru and setup all the directories, pretty much a mirror of what's setup on the main machine, pointed the plug-in at the main GBpvr database.
I'm happy to report, it works. I had to use the F11 key several time to get it to finally show everything, but it's working.
The only problem is it's agonizingly slow on the client. 15 seconds or so for each press of a button to go to the next video directory.
Is this something you've tested?
Is there someway to speed it up?
Have i done something wrong in the setup?
I am new to gb-pvr and i am having a problem setting up the software, I am installing it in MCE 2005 fully patched and running .net 2.0. When I run the config file i get the error (also see attached bmp for full info)
error loading plugin list: system.data.sqllite.sqlliteexception: sql lite error

It depends if your integrated video chip is adequate or not. If your outputing to a SDTV (720x480-NTSC or 720x576-PAL display resolutions) then the integrated 6150 and X300 video chips are satisfactory, but any other chip generally provides jerky/studdering motion and blurry/soft edges. If you have a HDTV or computer monitor then all integrated video chips are inadequate.
Based on the above statement, if your integrated video chip is inadequate, then a mid/high-end AGP/PCIE video card is the way to go. Which card to choose is dependant on your display device and desired display resolution.
PCI video cards don't support DXVA (MPEG2 hardware acceleration) and don't support hardware de-interlacing (used to provide sharper picture), therefore its only advantage would be to provide smoother motion if you are currently suffering jerky/studdering motion.
Edit:
For some strange reason this post is showing as the first post, but should actually be post#2 following Hpoeflickering post. Daylight saving adjustment may have mixed-up the order of the posts.
Since Wiki has be down for the past 3-4 days is there another site where i can get instructions (tutorials) for installing GBPVR? I know i'll run into problems.
I've just noticed, running on the PC screen, whilst watching a recording that if I click on the 'exit' item on the OSD with the mouse that it goes back two (maybe more) steps - right back to the main menu. There is a flash of what looks like the recordings menu. If I use the Hauppauge remote 'stop' key it goes back to the normal place - the listing of the recording I was watching.
Standard blue skin here. I'll try a reboot sometime, but currently recording one and playing back two, so I'd not survive a reboot long enough to post results

edit a bit later - yes, it still behaves odly after a reboot.
ok I have been having problems getting sleep mode to work well for a long time. first I couldnt get it to sleep, then I cant get it to wake when I use the keyboard (after I changed the bios setting, checked that it worked, left it for a night, now it wont wake on ps2 activity... again )
since I started using sleep mode I have never gotten the EPG to update, I have it set to do it at 3am, wake machine, full reload, etc. nope, recordings work fine, it wakes up for those.
I got it to sleep properly, when left alone for 15 minutes it went to sleep...
then even more fun, I installed the new theater plugin a few days ago (the one that auto updates) and now when I wake up in the morning the machine is on, sitting there, and gbpvr has crashed "needs to close". however I think that these crashes are related to this thread http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=19068 along with all the other random crashes people experience with .98
now I know that its not any other process keeping it awake, since I can leave it on the desktop and it goes right to sleep. but I open GBPVR and it wont sleep (I think, I did this test this morning and was busy doing other things).
yes I know I need to narrow down the problem, and trust me, I will, but I wanted to get this out there in case there is a known issue that I should be aware of. also I will post some logs. hopefully tommorow (if I remember) since I have nothing to do... except play with my computers.
ok so I was getting tired of my zap2it update taking forever, so I decided to change the number of days to 5. so I open the config make the change, go back to gbpvr, try to look at the EPG...
error telling me to go to the config and update the epg there to make sure it finds the channels...
so I do it, go back to gbpvr to look at the guide... same error
so I go back to config, empty the epg, update it, go to look at the guide... same error
so I go to the config remove the source, create a new source, properly configured go to look at the guide and guess what... same error
so at this point I go to the config remove the source, go to look at the channels, there are over a thousand... tried removing unreference ones, none removed.
so I dump my recordings, overwrite gbpvr.db with empty.db (I forget the while extension ok) open the config re-create the capture source and huzzah it worked.
now I have no logs for this because well I had no time because I had about 20 minutes to get it to work so I could get survivor recorded for my girlfriend, and then she was using it for the rest of the night.
All I did to start this was change the number of EPG days that I get from zap2it... which still isnt autoupdating (never has since I started using sleep mode)
ok so I know that baseskin.xml contains definitions for the default buttons reg, selected, popup, popup selected (well the popup ones are repeated like 3 times with slightly different names but whatever). TV Guide, Recordings, and I am not sure what else, havnt looked at search guide. do not use these popup button definitions in all popups, they use the default ones.
this is a problem for me because I am using sassari with black buttons, now these black buttons on a black background dont have much contrast to the white buttons, if at all, so I made the selected button red in the popups, and that made life better.
anyways, the real problem can be seen when you hit enter on a guide program and it brings up the exit, record, quick record... etc dialouge, it is a popup however no red selected button. then the next popup say with cancel and ok, uses the red buttons... the same thing happens in recordings when you select a show.
I am guessing that it is just using the wrong button name, and it should be a simple fix.
now I dont know where else it shows up, those are the only two that I noticed last night.
