  New scanning error
Posted by: paperboy_bert - 2006-09-27, 02:39 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

For some reason, scanning channels has started crashing with an error. I've changed nothing recently and all was well before.

The error message is in a dialog box (see attached JPG).

If I click Continue, it appears to finish OK, but I'm not sure whether anything has changed (perhaps nothing should have changed on this scan).

Any ideas?

  Autodetection of TV card
Posted by: Square - 2006-09-27, 02:37 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (3)

I've just downloaded the software and it looks good. Unfortunately, it looks like my install will not be an easy one. My card (FlyDVB-T Hybrid mini) doesn't seem to be listed in the Tuning Assistant. Looking at the wiki, it's clear that adding the card is not very straight forward. I've tried several PVR systems today, and all of them seem to automatically pick the TV card up. Having to pick it yourself or even having to add it yourself (editing ini files and such) seems a real step backward. There's probably a very good reason for this so please enlighten this noob!!

popup menu at the end of a recording
Posted by: Gibson99 - 2006-09-27, 12:41 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (13)

when you watch a recording on tivo and you get to the end, it pops up a small menu with two options:
1) Keep this recording and return to main menu (default)
2) Delete this recording and return to main menu

would this be very hard to add to gbpvr?

i think it would only be appropriate on tv recordings - not on videos or music library. of course, all tivo does is tv recordings... which is why i don't have a tivo. :p

  blurry playback
Posted by: twinfrey - 2006-09-27, 11:16 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

I am using a Hauppauge 150. When I play back recordings on my computer (and the TV from the computer) I get blurry video when there is a lot of motion. It's as if there is a small trail behind something when it moves quickly. I've burned some recordings to DVD and the same does not happen when played on the DVD player, so I know it's not the video file's problem.

What kind of settings can I change to avoid this problem? In general it's not a big deal, but when I try to watch a football game where the ball is thrown downfield, it's a little bit tough to follow the action.

Simple Hardware Question - I guess?
Posted by: Mokuer - 2006-09-27, 10:26 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (4)

I want to have a PC running on mt LAN network with GB-PVR.

I want buy three things.

TV tuner Card (Hauppauge PVR500)
REmote (Hauppauge MediaMVP)
and HD (250 GB)

I have an old PC with network-card installed. It matches the minimum requirement from Hauppauge on the 2 cards. So it is slow an old.

Will this work as a mediacenter for me?
And will the speed be acceptable?

I have another PC with Mp3 and pictures running on Lan. I want to play these files on my TV througt the LAN...

I know this might be to simple for the experts on this forum, but I would really apresiate any answer.

Thx in advance.

  Client Live Tv Streaming.
Posted by: djphatjive - 2006-09-27, 07:02 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (21)

Why is it that a recorded show at medium quality streams very well over m 54g network. But live tv stutters and jumps around? Is it just because its recording at the same time and the host computer can't send the data fast enough or something? I used Sagetv for a bit a while ago and there client worked great. Just wondering what it might be. There should be enough bandwith. I even changed live tv bitrate down to what my medium was an it still jumps. I increased the buffer too like on the other forums. I have tried both file sharing and streaming. File sharing is the only way the recordings work good. But never live tv. Anyway let me know if anyone knows whats up. Thanks.

Any xmltv users willing to test some new search features?
Posted by: Jim_ - 2006-09-27, 07:01 AM - Forum: Developers - Replies (14)

Hi all,
I’ve added a new feature in I-xmltv (for myself) that adds some pretty serious search capabilities. This feature is specifically designed to work with the “TV Listings” plugin.
It creates a "Find" channel containing "genre", "text", and user-defined "lists" that can be searched for, using "Find More" in TV Listings.

I’m looking for a few volunteers from various countries that will share their genre and search lists so I can include them in the distribution package.
I have now way of gathering genre's from other contries.
I’m also checking if enough people can use it, and would want it, to warrant the effort involved to refine & share it.

If you’re a novice GBPVR user please post if you would like the feature or not, but (at this stage) I’m looking for people that are very comfortable with their EPG.
If you feel comfortable working out your own little EPG issues, and would like to help, awesome!

I’ve attached the ini for everyone to look at, and I’ll post a few screenshots showing how it all works together.

Comments welcome, good or bad! Smile
Jim
<edit> this post has received a major edit because the latest version has been modified to work with every type of epg source!

PVR 500 Picture on Tuner 2
Posted by: Brian_W - 2006-09-27, 05:29 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (2)

I've read a couple threads on the PVR500 having some difficulties on the second tuner with picture quality, so I want to confirm if this is indeed my problem. I have a PVR150 and a PVR500 in my system, the 150 gets great picture quality on all channels, the PVR500 tuner #2 is half snowy on channel 2, and the snow gets less on ch 3, even less on 4, and on up to where ch 7/8 are pretty good quality. The PVR500 tuner #1 exhibits similar behavior, but not nearly as bad, it is watchable. I thought maybe it is a signal problem due to my running a 4-way splitter from the wall, which then goes to the PVR system. I plugged the PVR500 directly into the wall, and the picture does get a bit better, but ch 2 is still snowy. Even behind the splitter the 150 is great (I know the 500 has a built in splitter which will further degrade quality, but it still does it directly plugged into the wall).

Could this be a case of a faulty card or could possibly installing an in-line amplifier help the situation? I've already replaced all of the cables with high quality gold plated cables and it is still snowy, updated to the latest drivers, etc. Thanks.

Brian
