So I finally got my HDTV tuner card working correctly, but now I'm having some difficulties with my standard def card (PowerColor Theater 550).
The main problem is that I'm (usually) getting a screen that looks as shown.
Interestingly enough, LiveTV usually looks ok, but when I record a show and play it back, it looks like this. I've tried all different mpeg2 decoders with varying results. The best one is "System Default" (which I don't know what codec it is... no other codec in the list yields the same performance).
When System Default is selected, it's kind of hit-or-miss, as it seems like sometimes the codec "corrects" for the problem, and sometimes it doesn't.
I've updated to the latest drivers for the card. The codecs that I have are Intervideo, CyberLink, DScalar, and NVidia. I don't know if there are others out there I should be trying, or if this is a problem with something else.
In my fooling around, it seems as though the problem is in the deinterlacing, as changing these settings (both on the Misc tab of GBPVR and within the individual codecs themselves) seems to have the greatest effect on the problem.
Well, you shouldn't need any new dongle.bins after 98.8, as GBPVR has one from Hauppage with Video in a Window built in according to the 98.8 changelog.
However if you're still having trouble, or just like trying new stuff, beta Dongle_33_24257b.BIN has surfaced at shspvr.com. You will need to extract the 2.5MB dongle from the full 12MB software, which you do NOT need to install.
Or, for a short time only, the dongle bin (ONLY) is available here:
I've been having some issues since upgrading to the new versions. Until today they've just been an assortment of sometimes one off problems, such as one totally choppy recording, and one time when resolving a recording conflict didn't work properly; and then a few occasionally recurring problems, such as a failure to connect with the recording service, or a failure to tune to a DVB satellite channel, or the odd skips when timeshifting or playing back a recording; and then some minor but constant problems, such as a long "not responding" time when closing the configuration panel, or the fact that the epg doesn't seem to update without doing a complete empty first.
Apart from this last issue, everything seems to work, but just not very reliably, and I notice that often the computer seems to be doing something (more than usual) from the sound it's making, but I can't find anything in the task manager that it might be, apart from the fact that the GBPVR recording service and .exe seem to be using a lot of memory. I wondered if this new version uses more memory than the previous 96.12 I was on, and hence I need to add to my paltry 256mb I have installed at the moment.
Anyway, tonight things got a bit uglier, and the whole computer froze a couple of times (with the CPU- p4 2.4ghz- usage locked on 100%), so I've attached the logs from the second occasion in case there is something telling in there, if you have a moment to take a look sub.
Thanks for any help,
Frazer
p.s. I really like this new version, thank you, particularly the ability to record for a selectable time when already watching a channel- very useful if there's no epg data or a programme is overrunning- so I'd be sad to have to switch back to 96.12!
I just moved locations and it seems as though the channels arent matching up with what they are and my guide isnt getting all the channels I have. Do I need to reconfigure my channels, or should it do it automatically? Thanks in advance.
Hi there, I've been using GBPVR for several months now and have come to love the program and all the customization that is possible. However, I occasionally have a problem with recording⦠the problem is that while the entire show records, the length that is shown for the recorded program is incorrect. For example, if I record a show thatâs an hour long, sometimes it works fine, while other times it shows as less than an hour. When it shows less than an hour, Iâm not able to fast-forward or rewind properly. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what they did to fix it.
I haven't been able to get XRecord to work for me since I upgraded to 98.8. I can get XSearch to work fine separately, but I really like the way XRecord groups your shows and allows you to view them by icons rather than a list. Is there anything comparable for GBPVR? In particular I've been looking at my Pending Recordings and wishing I could group them by the show name. Forgive me if I'm missing something obvious here.
ok so here is what is going on, I an trying to play some of my anime that is in matroskia and ogm format, they look the best and have soft subtitles. now I know that I got it working fine once, but i seem to be having a problem with direct vobsub loading now.
I can play the files in windows media player and the subtitles load no problem, but when i play them in gbpvr i get no subtitles, and I have set directvobsub to force load but it still wont load.
I am using the overlay renderer (because I get tearing with VMR9 damned old nvidia card) although I think I was using VMR9 when I got it to work before.
let me know if logs are needed, but I took a wuick look and it didnt look like hte codecs that were being loaded were being logged, I will try changing the level of logging.
EDIT: changed the level of logging to tebug, yeah it shows the video graph and does not contain directvobsub? then how does it work in windows media player? is the graph different depending on the renderer
EDIT2: just tried using VMR9, no luck still no directvobsub in the graph for the file
Alright everybody. I've been reading thread after thread about setting up the MVPs and so far I'm still lost. I have analog cable running into a Hauppauge PVR150 in my eMachines computer using an ATI 9250 for the Svideo out to my TV. This box has been serving as my cable box for quite some time and I LOVE IT. I'm moving into a new house that has a finished basement with a bar and all that so I thought having the benefits of GBPVR down there would be mighty nice as well as in the living room. Now, to set this up I know obviously I'm going to need another machine. Thats the easy part. Now, heres the questions:
1) Will I need a TV turner in my client in order to view live TV even if the server tuner is idle?
2) Is there a way to control GBPVR from a distance with a remote control without using the IR remote of the PVR150(maybe a windows remote could control PVR, maybe there's another solution)?
3) If I do in fact use a tuner card in the client for Live TV(if necessary), or for the remote function(if necessary), can the server that holds the recordings take advantage of this tuner should it be idle?
I hear everyone say that MVP is the way to go, but it seems a little bit silly to me if you need another tuner in the client to view Live TV and to get remote function. Most people who visit my current home don't even know that I'm on a PC based PVR until i window it to do a google search at the same time. I love it. Let me know what the story is, or if any of you have suggestions concerning my setup(other than a HD projector and 16 harmon kardon speakers)
I have two 150 tuners. The first is setup for input from the cable on my regular analog channels. On the same tuner, I have a second capture source setup to bring in composite input from my STB for the higher digital channels. The second tuner is just set up for analog channels. I have the EPG and channels set up for each capture source so the analog channels only can be recorded on the analog setups and the digital channels will only record off the composite input on my first card.
If I schedule an analog show, then schedule a digital show in the same time slot, I get a conflict. It looks like they are both trying to use the same card. I think I have read that the first show will go to the first card, but is there a way to give the high channels a priority and bump my first scheduled show to the second (available) card?
Do I need to setup my "dual use" card as my second tuner so it will use this one first? Can this be done easily without having to blow out my config and reedit the EPGs?
Ok, so I noticed in 98.8b that if you search the guide and something is already scheduled, it's marked as red. If you focus is on a red bar and you scroll up & down it's fine (left image). If you loose focus (ex: move to the left), the red bar goes black (right image).
Example:

I also noticed that I searched the directory and noticed all the times red. I cancelled a reocurring program, freeing up the time slots. Searching again a second time still showed everything red. Odd.
