  Reformatting
Posted by: Killing2Live - 2006-07-08, 04:00 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (8)

Hello Everybody,

I am getting ready to to a complete reformat of my system and I want to know what I need to backup in GBPVR. Currently I am running 96.12 still and after I reformat I would like to upgrade to the newest release at the same time.

I have read in forums:

Quote:As always, its recommended that you backup your config.xml and gbpvr.mdb/gbpvr.db3 files if you're upgrading from a previous release. Do not copy these back on to the new release though - these are just in case you need to go back to the old version.

Is there anything else I need to backup? And how do I retain my personal setting aka recordings when I reinstall after a format? Or is that what those two files do?

Thanks again guys!

Log Says Recorded OK, But Video Is Short
Posted by: 4zm4r3d02 - 2006-07-08, 02:24 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

I scheduled a recording for early this morning (USA eastern time zone) using the Guide plugin that comes with GB-PVR. When I awoke this morning, and began to edit out the commercials manually, I discovered that I only had 53 minutes of what should have been a 94 minute recording (90 for the show, with 2 minutes padding before and after).

According to these lines in the GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log, it recorded the whole thing:

--------------------------------------------------------
There was plenty of free space on the destination drive.

I made no changes to the original file while editing out the commercials, as I quit the editing program when I realised the recording was short.

Please let me know if you need any further info to determine why this recording came up short.

I just now saw that there is a new version of GB-PVR, so I will understand if you are busy handling the problems of those who have upgraded.

Thank you for your assistance, and for your (mostly) wonderful program.

Standby - going in and coming out.
Posted by: martint123 - 2006-07-08, 12:04 PM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

I've recently been experimenting with putting the PVR machine into standby when not in use. Things are fine with it starting up for recordings and it shutting down after.
But.... If I log in remotely (after sending a WOL packet) with a remote control program, the connection drops after the standby timeout period.

So the question is - what is windows XP looking for to reset the standby timer? I didn't think it was that list of stuff in the BIOS. Is there anything I can do so that remote control sessions keep alive?. (using NetOp remote control).

regards,
Martin

p.s. add me to the list of those who would greatly appreciate the MVP to be able to issue Magic Packets for WOL.

  ZProcess - Old Support Thread...
Posted by: zehd - 2006-07-08, 10:24 AM - Forum: ZTools and UltraXMLTV - Replies (201)

ZProcess has been released!

I have finished the pre-pre-release of ZProcess. Hopefully, some of you can benefit. It's on the wiki. My download files are in my personal webspace, and the links are on the wiki too...

http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/ZProcess

As this will mostly benefit MVP users for the moment, I'm calling out to Strong, Hearty 'Beta-Testing for Breakfast' MVPers to help me...

If you are going to try it. Please read most of the wiki page. Most importantly is the file naming. (ZProcess = ffmpeg.exe, FFmpeg = fmpeg.exe)

Please PM me and tell me you're trying it. And let me know if you are PAL or NTSC, and what Revision of MVP you are using.

And lastly, if you have success, tell me the Transcoding details you ended up going with, (PAL, 640x894, etc...) and the speed of your computer, RAM...

Good Luck to all.

(And now,....., let the bugs fly!)

BaseSkin updated to v2.6 for GBPVR 97.13
Posted by: MixMan - 2006-07-08, 10:02 AM - Forum: Community Announcements - Replies (3)

2006–07–08 : v 2.6 for GBPVR 97.13
Updated skin to version 2.6 with new Music and Video plugin.

BlueMCE2 is the default theme this time.
Added faded popup background...more similar to original BlueMCE2
Icons for music, video are now in skin root so Themepacks can change them.

Just copy the baseskin over your existing baseskin, then all themepacks will work.

  VB6 and SQL-lite?
Posted by: zehd - 2006-07-08, 09:51 AM - Forum: Developers - Replies (5)

Would someone be able to suggest where I could get started on accessing GB-PVR's new database using sqllite and vb6?

I have been able to get in MS Access before, but for my latest project I'll just concentrate on SQLlite as sub says, 97.xx is the last version to have access access...

Thanks in advance

UML & Design Patterns - advice needed
Posted by: ubu - 2006-07-08, 08:15 AM - Forum: Developers - Replies (3)

Can anyone recommend any good books or training courses for someone trying to get a good understanding of UML, Design Patterns and OO design?

I've written tons of code in C#, Java (a few years ago) and even some OO Perl without ever really getting a proper grounding in the underlying principles of good OO design. I came into the OO world kinda backwards and jumped straight into solving real world problems (designing/writing a dbms-agnostic data access layer for an existing J2EE framework) without the luxury of any formal training. So I sometimes have difficulty communicating design ideas (and even understanding some of the discussions in this forum  ). I think it's time I got my act together and "went back to basics" so any advice would be very much appreciated.

This post probably belongs in the General Discussion forum but, since it's fellow developers I need help from, I'm sticking it here.

  Edit Recording Source Problem
Posted by: baff57 - 2006-07-08, 06:36 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

When trying to Map digital Channels to EPG Channels i get the following Message:-
GB-PVR was unable to start the BDA device you have configured, check the device is configured properly and not already in use.
I have installed the MCE plugin DTV-T emulator for the Twinhan card but comes up with the same when i turn it off. Anyway the first time i used this it mapped them fine with it running.
I have checked the button (only show cards detected) 3 listed and none work, they all do the same.

Help!!!
