I'm new to gbpvr forums and I've found it to be an awesome resource.
I'd trying to find appropraite hardware to set up a media server in my home without having a pc in every location around the home for recording and playback of TV etc signals.
The only/best hardware that I can seem to find for the thin client part of the setup (in the lounge room) is the Hauppauge MediaMVP device.
I would really like to be able to do away with my DVD player and convert to one device to handle playback and recording but I can't find a thin client device that can support 5.1 sound that works the same way that the MediaMVP supports 2 channel stereo sound.
This seems to be the only thing missing for me to jump in boots and all!!
Has anyone any suggestions about how to get 5.1 to the lounge from the server without having a PC in the lounge room (wife won't go for PC's all round the house...)
I am thinking about upgrading to a PVR 500 MCE. I currently have a PVR 250 MCE and it is working fine. I guess I have 2 questions.
Will I notice a difference in quality between a PVR 500 and a PVR 250?
Does anyone know of any issues with the PVR 500 MCE on windows XP?
Can anyone help me configure FFDshow with DScaler5, im getting a good picture but am hoping to improve it? Running latest version of GB PVR, using power DVD decoder And Hauppauge HVR 1300 MCE.
I have selected FFDshow, Deinterlacing set to encoder pass-through and VMR9 Custom Render in gb config.
In the FFDShow configuration I have selected a path to DScaler5 but am still getting some static on some channels and a very bad picture when watching recordings this inproves when I uncheck FFDShow option.
Love the program and pluggins!

Just installed a Hauppauge WINTV PVR2 USB2 and can successfully watch TV with it's WIN2000 application. Thought I'd give the much lauded GBPVR a go, but it can't detect my card... what's up? Any thoughts?
Does anyone know why I can't watch one of my recorded programs through the web interface? I've the default 7647 TCP port opened on my firewall. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
well, i think the time has come to move my gbpvr into production. the box is built, gbpvr is installed. plugins, skins all adjusted to my liking. usbuirt is attached, and now i have to configure my harmony remote. i have a a harmony 659 that i want to use to control my pvr. at home i have the local cable co's digital cable service. i want to be able to record off the digital channels, thus the uirt.
as it stands right now, the gbpvr only has the regular basic cable setup, but i will adjust that once in production.
i dont know the best way to use this box as a tivo type unit. my first thought was to have a splitter between the wall and the two boxes (one set-top box, the other the pvr). my tv has split screen capabilities and i can have the pvr box on one input and the set top box on another. sure this would record the analog signal, but not the digital, which is really the point im trying to accomplish.
how do others with a similar configuration have the gbpvr set so it records and changes channels on the set top box for digital or satellite signals?
if you know of any links that help explain this please let me know.
the second part is, how do your create commands on your programable remote? if i click the button on my remote to go to "PVR" how do you initiate the windows command to open gbpvr?
I have a Pentium 3 1Ghz PC with 512MB RAM and a Radeon 9600 Pro video card. Currently I have 1 PVR-150 tuner card but I'm thinking of buying another because I frequently (almost daily) have programming conflicts. Do you think adding a 2nd PVR-150 card to my setup will cause any difficulties? I know these tuner cards have hardware processing, so I figure things should be OK.
Also, since I'll now have to split my cable going into these 2 cards, what can I do to minimize signal loss? What should I look for when buying a "good" splitter or maybe some sort of booster if they're not to expensive?
Is there a plug in that will allow you to manually cut commercials? The only editing s/w I have is power producer, but that re-encodes the file after I have trimed and cut it.
A 'lite' stand alone application would be fine too, anything that I can scan through the recording and cut out the ads and overwrite the original file without reencoding.
I thought I would let everyone know about a problem I found. I had problems trying to get my PVR 150 IR blaster to operate my cable box (Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2200) even though it was listed as supported. The blaster flashed out codes, but the box could not pick them up, even when moving the blaster all over the plastic window on the cable box. I eventually took off the cover from the cable box and if I put the blaster directly on top of the eye, it would work. I phoned Hauppauge support and they told me that some of the blasters were defective and they sent me another one. I just tried it and it works great, even with the window on the box.
So if you are having problems, don't assume that the blaster is working just because it is blinking.
