So where I used to live had free cable tv. We moved, and in order to get a fair amount of channels, we have to pay $50/month So right now we just get basic broadcast stations. Bummer Cable TV is so dam expensive--i just can't fathom paying $50/month for it
I've been using various versions of my home built PVR for about 7 or 8 months now and have been using GBPVR since day one. Great software, of course (and great support!). I have now stumbled upon info on FFDShow (what took me so long, I don't know) and can't seem to find exactly the answers I need searching the forum. So, if anyone out there isn't sick of answering these questions and has a few minutes it would be greatly appreciated...
1. Is it worth it to use FFDShow with a standard definition television? (I probably won't be going HD for a while)
2. Can I just download and install FFDShow, click on the "use FFDshow processing" checkbox in GBPVR and wah-lah! (or is there more to it... I'm guessing there is more to it... but hoping not much more!)
3. Should I download "ffdshow" or "ffdshow-alpha." My OS is Windoze XP with all of the latest and greatest snoopware... er... patches.
4. Are there many horror stories using ffdshow or does it pretty much tighten up your picture without too many flaws (I might not be able to take too many days of a low WAF!)
Thanks to anyone with some info. Cheers, guys (and gals)!
My GBPVR is now up and running - not permanently wired in yet as I've got to buy a SCART hub (not enough decent connectors on my TV) - but it's sadly let down by my poor 'freeview' signal.
I don't know much about the aerial (RF) side of this but I do know that I've got a decent aerial on a decent height pole and a masthead amp - there's only one TV being fed from this too...
I'm also in a geographical area that's covered by 'freeview' - according to their website.
(the HVR1300 does as good a job as my separate freeview box BTW).
Anyone know of any tweeks or tips that might improve things? Anyone having the same problem?
If not it looks like I might have to wait until 2012 until we go digital!
Also, I've run the EPG Update a few times and it's not displaying anything for BBC1 - is this because of my weak signal?
Whenever I upgrade my gbpvr installation, I always zip up the gbpvr directory and tuck it away somewhere. Prior to doing this, I always shutdown gbpvr and the tray application and remove all of the logfies.
Putting all of the logfiles in a separate directory would make things a little more convenient -- not to mention making it easier to see which files have changed, etc.
EDIT: On the applications I deal with at work, we write all true errors to a separate "error.log" logfile in addition to the standard process logfile. This could be helpful for tracking down issues.
I saw a post somewhere that mentioned indexes that could be applied to a SQLLite installation to improve performance.
Does anyone have a list of what these indexes might be? The download that is provided is an executable, so there is no way to get the exact indexes from them. I'd like to apply them to my SQL Server 2005 / GBPVR installation.
I have been testing a client / server gbpvr solution so that I may someday replace my MVP if need be. I have everything working great on the client PC, but when a program ends while I am watching live TV, the gbpvr process running on my client PC hangs up (totally freezes, only showing the last "frame" of the program), and I have to use task manager to kill it.
Right clicking on the process and selecting close will not terminate the process.
There doesn't seem to be any notable comments in the gbpvr.exe.log although now that I think about it, I should probably have checked the server logs as well.
I've a friend who'd like to watch digital TV on his laptop using GBPVR. The trouble is that his laptop doesn't have USB2 ports.
I was thinking about grabbing a USB2 Hub PCMCIA card and a cheap-ish USB2 DVB-T stick. Is there any reason why this shouldn't work? I have looked for straight PCMCIA DVB-T tuners, but choices seem to be limited - plus the added bonus of having USB2 ports added to the lappy is a bonus.
Money is quite tight, so as cheap as possible, but a solution that works reliably is a must. Can anyone recommend some hardware?
My tv tuner is Lifeview FlyDVB-T that is supported by this programs, but after install it, when I use the "Tuning assistant" , the card not appear and i don't know how to do recognize it at the program.
Thank you for any help
