I've been struggling with this problem for months. I've tweaked my GB-PVR set up within an inch of its life, tried different drivers, decoders, video cards, switching cards from slot to slot, and I still get cpu usage between 80% and 100% when watching live TV. I'm pretty comfortable with the software side of things but hardware problems just make me feel like I'm stupid. I could really use some help here.
As you can see from my signature, my HTPC, while not a screaming beast, should be adequate for the job and there's nothing I can see that's "non-standard" about it. Here's what I see when running Process Explorer from a remote XP session:
Code:
[U]Total[/U] [U]DPCs[/U] [U]Interrupts[/U]
GBPVR menu (idle): 3-10% 1.5% 1.5%
Recording playback: 35-45% 1-3% 1-3%
Live TV preview: 85-100% 30-40% 20-30%
Timeshift (paused): 55-65% 20-35% 10-25%
Timeshift (playing): 75-95% 20-35% 10-25%
The portion of the total that's not DPCs and Interrupts is largely taken up by gbpvr.exe. My wifi network software blips in with 1.5% every few seconds and Process Explorer itself takes 1.5% every so often. I'm currently running a clean 97.9 install under a clean XP SP2 install with newly installed Forceware, Hauppauge 2.0.43.24108, latest Intervideo non-CSS decoders, latest wifi card drivers. I played "musical chairs" with the PCI slots. Nothing. Nada.
Would a dodgy PR-150 card cause this symptom? Could my mobo just not like my choice of cards? BIOS something or other?
I see forum posts reporting 30-40% cpu for live tv on PIII systems so I should be getting as good or better with a P4 I'd have thought. I know that P4s do vary a bit in their architecture. I've got a 2.4 and a 2.23 to choose from and could get my hands on a 2.53...... (OK - now I'm grasping at straws!)
It's not just causing wierd live TV effects but, in my crowded case with the weather getting warmer, CPU temp is touching the wrong side of 50F too often for comfort.
I got the latest version on GBPVR, also the Theater 550 Pro drivers are the latest too. GBPVR says that is recording but is not recording anything.
I notice it because one of the shows that I usually record isn't as a file in the specified directory. That means that the problem has begun last week. Is there something that I have to setup or check to make sure that is working perfectly. I dont know what else to do.
Either I'm dumb or I'm missing something, but I can't seem to get the SoftwareRecorder to show up in the plugins list in the config program. I followed the installation instructions on the Wiki page and it still won't show up.
I need a program that I can include in the PostProcessing.BAT file. This program must insert a SDE seqment into the MPEG file that the Hauppauge is recording. I need this for a Media Player device (TransGear DVX-500E).
Do you know such a program?
It looks like there used to be a program called SDEPatch.EXE. However, I cannot find this program anywhere.
Seeing as we don't watch ads any more , it's difficult to keep track of when the line-up is changing and if something new is coming on.
How about a plug-in that compares this weeks guide with last weeks and notes the changes in show names during prime-time? This way we could keep on top of changes before they happen rather then after.
I have searched the forum but can't seem to find anything relating to my question...
Is there anyway to stream the live TV over the internet or via some sort of portable application that I can put on my USB drive so that I can watch TV wherever I am? I am a relatively a novice when it comes to networks/LAN and all that stuff, so if it is too confusing, I am at a loss.
I tried using Orb, but besides from it being a resource hog, it really is quite error-prone, which the support team there knows about.
Is there a plugin that can be used? I've read webstreamer does this for recordings I have... but is there something to stream the live tv? Like if I wanted to watch a 3pm TV show at work? lol
There is absolutely nothing in my logs but I have a problem.
If I am watching live TV on the PC and the wife turns the MVP on or off the live TV starts to stutter and never corrects itself unless I exit GBPVR and then start it again (not the service just the app on the PC). It's done this several times to me now. I haven't noticed the problem in earlier versions, just this one.
I now can't find the thread where these were being discussed, were the following issues related to the new 97.7 & 97.9 (.net 2.0) version of the plugin?
1. Needing to go through the delete process twice before a recording will disappear from the list?
2. The reappearance of deleted items in lists, even after #1 and after hitting home to do a refresh?
3. Also a deleted item will disappear if one tries to play it.
