  Video Decoder Trouble ??
Posted by: parry33us - 2006-05-17, 08:22 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

Hi,
I have a amd 3200+, nvidia fx5200 , 512 MB ram, hauppauge pvr-250 card. I had GBPVR working on my last machine but since then have upgraded and cannot get it to work correctly on this machine.

PROBLEM:
I cant get any picture on liveTV and when I do a quick record I get video and audio but the video is messed up. I see what looks like the ant race or fuzz on the bottom half of the screen and the top looks scrambled, and looks like it may only be showing the primary colors. I have tried the Nvidia Decoder, InterVideo Decoder from the Hauppauge disk, the Elecard Decoder and tried ALL of them using Overlay, VR7, VR9. Basically tried all the combinations I can and I either get the EXACT same look on the recording or GBPVR just reports and error if the settings arent right.
I dont get why all the decoders seem to do the same thing. I tried a different video card. Different drivers for both cards Ive tried, different coax cables, different sVideo cables. Im not sure what to do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

  MVP availability in the UK
Posted by: RangerBob - 2006-05-17, 08:04 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (29)

Hello all,

I have set up a sucessful GBPVR rig, and have been "playing" with it for weeks now. The WAF on a PC in the living room is low, so I was planning on setting this machine up as a server elsewhere, then running a cable to an MVP in the living room (plus others elsewhere later).

My sticking point is this: I cannot get hold of a MediaMVP for love nor money in the UK. I have had one on order with Dabs for well over two months. They keep giving a delivery date, then hauppage keeps knocking back the dates, this has happened about 3 times now. Each time it is 3-4 weeks away, it counts down, then jumps back up to 3-4 weeks. I have a coworker in a similar situation, ordering through another company. There is just one location that I can find a retailer with stock (they will remain unnamed), but they are charging well over twice the price of anyone else!

Before I get desperate, buckle in and buy the from the rip-off mechants, does anyone know of any retailers in the uk with stock. Lots say "available in 3-4 weeks", but from what I can tell, they all are in the same boat with happauge's delivery slips.

Any ideas?

New user.. Love it! Some questions though!

Hey all, I recently purchased (and upgrade my ancient Hauppage SW Card) an ATI TV Wonder Elite (550 chip) and was utterly disgusted with the onboard software as well as MMC. being forced to watch the program I was recording while doing other tasks kinda sucks, esp with the audio playing etc.

So, I installed GB-PVR this morning and it worked damn near perfectly right away Smile I am currently running a SATA II Raid array in raid 0, with a pair of 7200 RPM drives(adding more I think with all the recording im going to do Smile with a Athlon X2 4800+ and have got to say that unless something is wrong with what Im reading, the cpu usage while encoding is phenomenal. It goes between 0-2% at most and the harddrive usage can hardly be noticed (which is impressive considering I recorded a 3 gig file already and was using my machine the entire time). My main question is that, is there any support for the hardware encoder on the 550 chip? As well as using the onboard memory/etc? Is it already being used?
The cpu usage seems awful low, yet the setup tells me I am using software mode(as hauppage and ..Xchip or something were the only options?). And it seems to use a static 29mb of ram or so.

Finally, is there a good guide replacement that allows for more categorized searching? The ATI came with Guide+ which had a rather overall crappy interface but the one thing I really liked was the search, movie search, category search, etc. Mostly the movie search.

See, I sit in the night shift in a big ass building all by myself doing night phone support, and have a LOT of time on my hands, so I watch a good bit of movies. I just got done watching the stuff I scheduled from today while I was out having fun (hooray for pvr!) and I gotta say I love it. Its nice to be able to not miss out on good programming again. Infact Ill say its put hours back in my day because certain programs (King of queens every night,Lost, battlestar,Iron chef(woo Tongue) ,etc) that id definately put time away to watch, I can check out while im at work and kill two birds with one stone.

Also, the image quality is freakin wonderful. I never thought it could look so good on the PC Smile /happydance. I wish I got this a LONG time ago. And to think I almost kept the ATI HDTV wonder... Read some reviews online and promptly rushed back to the store and returned it for this. Smile

  USBUIRT won't learn commands
Posted by: pdesuza - 2006-05-17, 07:23 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (17)

I have a pvr-150, 45 Hauppauge remote, and a usbuirt. I can get things working nicely with just the default Happauge equipment. But I would like to be able to use the usbuirt as an emitter or as a receiver and emitter.

I have tried to run the "learn key" thing, but with no luck. The usbuirt glows in response to the key pressed, but nothing on the screen changes. The USB-UIRT remote file doesn't change either (I'm assuming it should)

Has anybody experienced this problem before? As far as I know, the usbuirt should work just fine with gbpvr. Maybe I'm just missing something obvious.

GBPVR crash due to demux ?
Posted by: wolfie - 2006-05-17, 06:17 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Hi,

I've been having some reoccuring problems with gbpvr crashes (terminated by windows, so the log-files are incoclusive). This is the story:

I've got a Hauppage HVR 1300 card btw.
All recordings in DVR-MS format.

* Using XP Pro, things worked fine for a while (weeks) then it started crashing on me.
* Re-installed GBPVR without any plugins - didn't help
* Installed XP Home instead, worked fine for a while, then started crashing again.
* Searched forums and found leads to that it may have been a demux problem
* Installed showshifter, and GBPVR started working again
* It started crashing a couple of weeks ago and this time it didn't help to reinstall Showshifter
* Installed a trial version of Intervideo DVD player, and it started working again.
* This morning it stopped working again, at the same time that the Intervideo trial period was over.

I know the demux shouldn't stop working when the trial period is over, but that's the way it looks to me...

Now here's the part which makes this post possibly on the wrong forum: It's not only GBPVR that crashes. It's any program with which I try to play my recorded DVR-MS files with, including the Windows Media Player (!). It also happens in LiveTV mode.

I've searched the forums, and googled about it, but can find no real clues. Please help me (or the wife will probably kill me for us having no TV).

Any more info I can provide to get help, or is this a known problem ?

Anyone ? Please ?

With the best of Regards - John

  Intermittant OSD
Posted by: short_thumb - 2006-05-17, 04:08 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

Hello--

I am new to GB PVR and I am really enjoying the software. Unfortunately, I am having difficulty with the OSD feature. I am using the Hauppauge 150 PVR with the remote and I can sometimes get the OSD to appear for one recording but then I can't get it to appear for another recording. I really like the OSD because it can tell me where the commercials are and how long I have left in the recording. Am I doing something wrong? I am pressing the blue button for the OSD feature.

Thanks!
Paul

Text Cutting Off In Various Locations
Posted by: cristovao - 2006-05-17, 02:16 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

Hello all,

I'm a new GBPVR user and am SO close to having it all working. The one thing that's happening that I'd like to fix (if possible) is the text getting cut off. This occurs pretty much everywhere (in the TV guide channel names and descriptions as well as on screen during live TV program descriptions). Can anyone help with this?

I read a thread where I can use logos for the Channels instead of text, but I can't seem to find a page which has instructions for it. If someone could help on that too, that would be great!
