I've been at this program for about a week, after being very disappointed with that awful Windows 98-style crap that Hauppauge sold me with my PVR-150. For the most part, it's a vast improvement, but I've had a few issues during setup. Some are bugs, some are probably something I'm doing wrong, and some I think are just the way the software is.
1. The software doesn't ask which of your zap2it lineups to use, it just tries to use all of them and breaks quite badly. 2. The software and the documentation tell me that my remote control receiver can be accessed directly, without need for Hauppauge's software running, but I can't get it working. 3. If I am setting up a recording and hit the left arrow one too many times on the 'quality' setting I get an error message that doesn't go away until I quit the program. Something about an index being out of range. 4. Managing the channels is really slow. If I want to remove a channel from the lineup it takes about 10 seconds (and also cancels any changes I've made to the checkboxes in the list.) Removing channels is faster when I've emptied the EPG, but then it's very slow updating it again. I have a P4 2.6 running Windows 2000, not a slow computer! 5. The documentation says I push F12 to exit from the main menu, but it doesn't work. 6. I'm surprised not so see some very basic stuff included in the software. For example: on-screen confirmation of changing the volume. I had to install a 'plug-in' to get that, and it involved hand-editing strange files and stuff. 7. No closed captions? I'm disappointed, but not too surprised about it being missing, decoding them from the video is probably very tricky stuff, especially for a free software programmer. 8. The web interface doesn't work for me. Going to http://localhost:4321/ gives me "Server Error in '/gbpvr' Application. HTTP Error 404 - Not Found." So there's a web server running, just not working.
Sorry it's such a long list, but hopefully somebody will have some suggestions for some of my problems. I remain very impressed with the software, especially compared to the Hauppauge stuff! Hopefully all these issues will be fixed by the time it gets to 1.0!
The free space check doesn't report the correct free space of a mounted (Not Mapped) drive. The free space check should display the free space in the recordings directory, not the drive in which it resides.
i.e. XP. can mount a drive in an empty NTFS Subdirectory of another drive.
So my C:\Media Buffer\Recordings has 128GB Free
my C:\ has 15GB free
But GBPVR Reports 15gb and not the 128GB.
Hello.
I have been using comskip for a while, and just got the comclean process to work as well... My question is...
What are the best ways to verify that the comskip has detected the appropriate spots for commercials? Does anyone have a trick or something for validating this? Or do I just have to verify each show and the cutpoints within GBPVR?
Hi all, I'm using the current GB-PVR release under Windows 2000, with Cyberlink Power DVD 5 and it's codecs, & a pair of Hauppauge PVR-150's (one retial with 45 button remote, the other the MCE modle with radio). I'm wondering, is there a way to play back wide screen DVD's without haveing the video being stretched to fit the whole screen? I've gone over everything I could (with all the codecs, and in GB-PVR), and I can't see any options to disable video stretching.
I am running on an AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.0 GHz machine with 1.5 GB of RAM on a Gigabyte GA-7ZX motherboard and needless to say it sometimes takes more than a few seconds to respond to remote control commands. It would be nice to display some sort of animation in the corner or otherwise to show it took the response from the remote and it is at least trying to do something. Even something as simple as a quick highlight or blink of the button that was selected with the OK button. Sometimes it takes a few seconds for the cursor to even move to the next button after pressing an arrow button on the remote. I'm not sure how to show that it is even trying to move to the next button. Maybe show the busy animation in the corner after pressing the arrow key? Just an idea that I came up with a little while ago and wanted to "write down" before I forgot.
Everything was working fine , came back to watch some recordings I had just made and when I goto Recordings I get this message " Error:Specified cast is not valid" nothing has changed from 6pm when I was just watching some recording so I'm not sure what went wrong. Restarted pc and same problems? Any ideas?
I can't seem to get Config.exe to actually stay running, whenever I start it, it crashes. The Tuning Assistant can actually view TV, so I don't think its a hardware issue.
