Config: XP PRO SP2 32 Bit, Hauppauge PVR 500 AMD 64.

When I try to update the EPG (zap2it), I get "EPG source does not appeat ro be configured correctly". I make sure both EPG and source are configured.

If I try to use xmltv rather than zap2it directly, I point to the xml file in the EPG config and get a popup window with the error "Failure in ChannelFactory:toreChannels(): Unknown". If I click the OK button on the popup, I am presented with the previous EPG source error message from before. My config.exe gets more of the same:

If I try to add a channel manually (the button becomes available after the above failures), I immediately crash GBPVR with an unhandled exception error. Fun!

AND

On top of the inability to configure the EPG, I cannot save the sources. Each time I "OK" out of the config, the service restarts, and the capture sources are gone, lost, missing, vanished! (key words for future searches )

I am running MDAC 2.8 SP1, as well as a refreshed installation of .Net 1.1 and a new install of GBPVR.

I'm at a loss, and nothing I have found in the support forums here has yet been successful in addressing the issues. Help!

Hello all!

After spending more time than I care to admit looking at "Consumer Electronics" HDD PVR solutions, I've come to discover that the reason I'm having such trouble finding a unit that fills my needs is because it isn't out there.

While a liberating discovery in itself, it does leave me turning towards a PC based setup instead of units such as those by Toshiba and Pioneer.

I am, however, a little bit nervous about what I can expect from a PC system, and would like to beg the thoughts who have more experience with them than I do.

While I have a great raft of questions, I guess I'll start with the basics. I do this in an effort to avoid people running from the room screaming.

First - what kind of quality can I expect? I would guess this will vary with bitrates (at least, the Toshiba unit had an exciting selection of different quality selections, from "ok" to "vcrish" to "dvdish").

I installed GBPVR, and have explored it as much as I'm able not having a video capture card installed. The "high quality" setting shows a bit rate of 5500 kbits/second. So, uhm, :o , is that lots? Compared to, say, a VCR or DVD?

A quick google of "DVD bitrate" delivers an selection of bitrate calculators, so from this I conclude that there is no one number to end all numbers for DVD bitrates. How high, then, is 'high quality'?

Note: High Definition isn't part of my equation. Video source will be an svideo input.

Second - how stable is the system? It will be used by people with no patience for, or indeed understanding of, computer issues. To this end I've already decided that it will be a dedicated machine, with no other uses. Will it behave well?

Third - in reading through the documentation, I see much mention of the PVR350. Indeed, this manual page speaks as if it were the only option. Understanding that the manual is a work in progress, I'd like to clarify this. Are my choices for TV-out limited to the Hauppauge series? Or can I use another card?(This critter (pdf), for example, selected on the belief that a hardware MPEG2 decoder is a good thing.)

OK, three is enough. If there is any 'suggested reading' you feel would benefit me, please point me in the right direction. I'm not above doing what research I can, but I want to move carefully to ensure that what I'm getting will do what I need it to to.

Hello, I have a Plextor PX-TV402U. The watching of live TV and recordings are doing fine, except I can't watch the program I am currently recording (the olympics) When i select watch Live TV and select Watch (currently recording program) nothing happens. I remember seeing on the wiki GB-PVR website manual that u can watch the currently recording show. Any ideas?

I am trying to set GBPVR up to record to a network location.

No matter what I try, I am unable to get it to accept a network location as a valid recording location. It simply doesn't record in that directory, but in stead creates a file without the mpg-extension in the program directory.

I have tried
\\Sharedservername\Sharedir
\\IP-number\Sharedir
\\IP-number\d$\fullpath
V:\Sharedir (V: mapped through explorer and working on every other aspect)

Even tried to set up a SUBST drive pointing at a local disk.

All of this I have tried directly in Config.xml's <RecordingsDirectory> position. Some of them I tried directly from the config-application as well.

None of these attempts has been successful so far.

Any ideas?

I have this tv tuner installed on my machine, but it is not listed in Recording Source under Capture Card Type. I have used all the cards on the list, but I get a device drive not installed for all of them. Does anyone know of a add on or a tweak I can perform to get GB to recognize my card?

I have a question about the remote that comes with the pvr 150. I can't seem to get the numbers to work on it while on the menu. For example if I am watching channel 250 and want to change to channel 6 I just enter 006 and it works but if I am in the tv guide and sitting at channel 250 and want to go to channel 6 hitting 006 does not work. Any info on what I am doing wrong?

Wont write the change log since it rolls up 3.0, 3.1 and 3.2.

Ok, everything on my system seems to be working well except ONE issue.

As you will see in the picture (which is photoshopped and not an actual screen cap, but illustrates the problem) when there is fast movement from left to right or top to bottom I get this redraw line that goes from mid screen on the left side to midscreen on the top. It seems to be drawing one frame behind or forward and doesn't produce any kind of colored line, it simply lets you see it's rendering behind the larger portion.

I have a PVR 150 with windows xp. My vid card is a noname ATI 7x series I think. Latest drivers are used, I have done multipule refresh rates in the vid card settings. It is now in Video Mode and it's still there.

Ihave tried VMR9/7/overlay, same issue. I have tried different settings such as FFdshow, encoder passthrough, etc. It's still there.

Just curious for ideas. This happens in live tv and in video file playback (from sources other than those recorded by the wintv pvr150 so I am thinking it is the video card or decoder?

Sorry, I don't have a vast knowledge of all the things and decoders in GBPVR, so any direction / help is great!

13 Days of Data Available Again

Based on the feedback we've received from the scale-back to 3 days of data, as well as our data analysis, we have reset Zap2it Labs DataDirect to allow downloads of up to 13 days. This change was implemented at 4:15 p.m. on Monday, 2/13/06.

We did lessen the strain on our servers with the move to three days, but on balance, we felt that the adverse impact to end user applications outweighed our performance/availability gains.

Importantly, the underlying technical issues are not addressed -- we are simply delaying things a bit by returning to the previous settings. We will be soliciting the input of you, the Zap2it Labs community, on ideas and possible changes to the service to improve performance/availability. Look for that discussion in another thread.
