The Olympics start in about 24 hours. I think this will be GBPVR's Ultimate Test. I'm wondering if people have thought about how to use GBPVR to record the Olympics. What's your strategy?
I installed my new Hauppauge Nova-T and, after being disappointed with the bundled software, stumbled across GB-PVR and loved it
I live in the UK and we're lucky enough to have the programme guides broadcast. I first attempted to use the DVB EPG plug-in, but found that the downloading process appeared to bail early in the process leaving a partially populated TV Guide. I then used the XMLTV EPG plug-in, with TV listings from http://www.bleb.org/tv/, and had more luck. After some set up shenanigans I had a good TV Guide for most of the channels. However, the âTMFâ and âThe Hitsâ channels schedules are not included in the bleb listings. How would I be able to get my fix of âKylieâ videos?
I then discovered the marvellous âTSReader Liteâ utility (http://www.coolstf.com/tsreader/) and managed to manually export the DVB broadcast EPG as XMLTV. The coverage of the standard channels wasnât as good as the bleb site, so I knocked up a short Perl script to extract the âTMFâ and âThe Hitsâ listings from the TSReader export and merge them with the bleb listings.
However, the XMLTV EPG import *still* failed before it got to the âTMFâ and âThe Hitsâ listings. I played with the XMLTV file for some time and found that the import stopped when it hit a pound character (â£â, 0xa3). The aforementioned channels tend to have a lot of messages such as âSMS your favourite tracks to ⦠for only £1 per messageâ in their programme descriptions. So, I modified my Perl script to remove this character and the complete XMLTV file imported successfully!
It crossed my mind whether the original DVB EPG import plug-in also terminated when it got to a pound character?
Im hoping someone here can help me get my remote working with GB-PVR.
I have the HAUPPAUGE A415-HPG remote with a PVR-350 card. I just installed the most recent gbpvr msi and everything is working great! except the remote.
I am new to this and am sure its something dum that i have failed to set up. Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Been testing Vista and IE7 and have found both rather nice. I'm a Firefox fan but IE7 has been rock solid for me so far.

This utility has now been replaced by the UbuStream plugin which is discussed in this thread. Some of the discussions in this thread may still be relevant, but don't count on it.
As a GBPVR newbie I continue to be amazed by its capabilities but I found one feature, that I really wanted, to be absent. I like to watch streaming web TV stations as an alternative to the often bland programming to be found on broadcast and cable. So I've written a small utility that lets me do this, fairly seamlessly, with GBPVR. I thought that maybe some other folks might find it handy so I hereby "publish" it.
UbuStreamCmd is an "add-in" to the ExternalRecorder plugin which lets you watch web TV and radio streams as if they were regular GBPVR tuner channels. It provides a simple way to use a single GBPVR capture source to support multiple web streams (TV or radio) as channels within that source. Each channel can be configured with its own, separate url, media player executable and command line parameters. It works fine with Windows Media, RealPlayer and VLC. (Winamp and Quicktime work but not in full screen mode - like on a TV. Blame Steve Jobs, not me.)
Make sure to download UbuStreamCmd, not Ubu Remote, my other software offering. (Although you are welcome to try that too ) The zip file includes a readme file which gives installation/usage details. I've also included a sample xml file with some stations and player configs preloaded for instant gratification. (If you don't use it, an empty xml file will be created in the gbpvr directory the first time you run the UbuStream config app.) The "addin" consists of two exe files: UbuStreamCmd, which is the runtime component executed from ExternalRecorder, and UbuStreamConfig, a tabbed dialog which lets you enter information about your streaming stations and the media players you want to use to play them with.
Since this is not really a plugin as such, I've implemented it as an "addin" to a plugin. It might make sense to bundle it in with ExternalRecorder at some point. Or not. Greater integration would mean the UbuStreamConfig window could be launched from within the ExternalRecorder config window (currently it's a separate app) and automatic population of GBPVR capture source channels from the UbuStreamCmd xml file (currently you have to enter your channels in both places). I'd appreciate advice and guidance on this.
Notes:
* It's compiled with .Net 1.1 not 2.0 (yet). Don't know if this will cause issues for anyone.
* I'd like to store separate recording/live tv parameters for each station. Currently you have to define a different external source if you want different recording parameters for different players, for instance. Since I primarily use it in live TV mode and since VLC is the only player I use for recording, this hasn't been an issue for me yet.
* For internet radio, this does not replace the excellent Net Radio plugin however it does let you move beyond the fairly limited choice offered by Shoutcast. As an ex-pat Brit, I like to listen to BBC stations (which use RealMedia and Windows Media streams). Now I switch to channel 300 and I'm listening to Radio 4. Set up a nice Visualization graphic on your player and you're set
I can't be the only GBPVR user who thinks this is a useful option. Last time I raised this issue (perhaps unwisely, on the Plugin Support forum) the number of replies I got was, well, a number that will produce a fatal error if you try to divide by it .
If you a)like to watch tv, b)like to watch tv using a computer, c)have an internet connection (most people on this forum presumably) UbuStreamCmd might be of interest. Take a look. Any feedback/suggestions would be very welcome.
I have GBPVR installed and running on a server (Haup 150), wired to the Hau MVP player in the living room (works great). I would like to run it in a room upstairs but without an MVP player... Is it possible to make a computer an MVP player?
I mean -- I have a great computer in a spare room upstairs, and I'd love to have GBPVR running upstairs and running as an MVP player from the server. Does that make sense? Can a Computer be an MVP box ? (It's a Win2k machine)
I have an audio delay if I am watching Live TV.
I have ATI 550, Cyberlink Audio/Video decoder, Realtek AC97 onboard sound chip with the latest Realtek driver. The delay is around 0.5-1 sec, and permanent.
Is there any way to play lossless audio files such as FLAC on the MVP? I seem to remember seeing that the old Jukebox plugin could play flac files but that old plugin doesn't seem to work on MVP. Could also be that that plugin only worked on PC.
I would love to burn all my cds to a lossless format, but seem to think that mvp can't handle that even if I have flac codec.
Also anyone know why my slow pc 667mhz 256mb pc can't play videos but the MVP can without a stutter?
Hi. I can neither play live tv or recordings without getting audio and video that is incredibly choppy -- maybe one frame per second -- through GBPVR. WinTV2000 plays and records just fine. What might the problem be?
Last night i left my gb-pvr playing like i normally do,before the recordings.. where recordings take over and stop the playing...i had a norton or something popup and gbpvr.. somereason didnt record but kept playing tv.
I kinda wish itd know to minimize or close stuff after a time period if it needs to record.
