I'd like to see a way to designate channels as ones that are not to be commercial skip processed. I guess it could be a checkbox in the config where we enable or disable channels in the guide.
For instance, Turner Classic Movies doesn't have commercials (nor does PBS). I am presuming my machine is laboring at the end of recordings of these channels looking for something it can't find. In fact, I am hoping it doesn't mistaken something for a commercial on these channels and auto-skip it.
For example, you're playing an album in My Music, and then you go to Live TV and channel surf. I think it'd be nice to have the option to still hear the album you were playing while you channel surf -- i.e., you could still watch TV, but the sound would be from the MP3 currently playing.
I'm having trouble with setup. I have heard a lot of good things on this software. I just installed the PVR-150 card, and was using the Wintv software that came with it. I mainly want to use this to transfer a bunch of VHS to DVD. Do I need to completely remove all of the Hauppauge software so that there are no conflicts with GBPVR? I also have an "error downloading codec" when playing back. I have playback set up as VMR9. Thanks for your help.

The volari v3 video card tv out acts funky with the GBPVR "show on second Monitor option" enable. With timeshifting, GBPVR warns me with small letters that the video card doesn;t fully support this function. VOLARI BETTER GET ON THE BALL REAL FAST AND FULLY SUPPORT PVR APPLICATIONS.
HIP, by the way, switches the GBPVR window from the tv (which is by the way, is what i set up as a second monitor) to the lcd monitor everytime when I call the gbpvr window up. I am searching for answers, not complaining about HIP. I am not complaing about GBPVR either since it is NOT the cause of these PROBLEMS.
Can anyone assist me with solving these setbacks?:confused:

Hi! I'm going to put together a HTPC using an old IBM desktop that is quiet enough to live near the TV. The processor is an 800MHz PIII, so it should be adequate if I use a tuner card with hardware encoding and the video card with MPEG-2 decoding. I can see from reading the forums that using a Hauppauge PVR350 would solve both problems, as would a PVR150 with a suitable video card.
Here's where I could use some real advice. I am in the US and am interested in OTA reception only, as I am one of the last troglodytes without cable (and intend to stay that way). My local TV stations are now transmitting ATSC as well as NTSC, so I have a difficult choice. I could get a tuner card, such as the DVICO HDTV Fusion Gold (USB or PCI) that has both ATSC and NTSC tuners and hardware MPEG-2 encoding. It appears that these two tuner models have BDA drivers and can work with GBPVR. My TV is still a NTSC model that can't take advantage of HDTV, but I still wonder if the reconstructed MPEG-2 signal downsampled to NTSC resolution is superior to natively recorded NTSC when using the S-video output?
I ask this because standard NTSC video is a bandwidth compromise that allows luminance or chorminance to change quickly, but not both. It is is crude form of analog compression that is "pretty good" from the visual perspective. The ATSC signal has much more information content, and S-video has a bit more bandwidth capability than a composite signal, so I was hoping that recording ATSC and playing it back through S-video might give better results than just NTSC in and out. Any thoughts or experience with that? Even if it doesn't improve the picture quality, I would be already set up if I can eventually afford a HDTV monitor.
Another use I would like for this system, if possible, is to play back MPEG-4 files in .avi containers that I download (all legal, of course). Unless I get a video card that has hardware MPEG-4 support, I would have to depend on software decoding to MPEG-2 on the fly and using the MPEG-2 hardware assist in the video card. This is exactly what VLS does, and it seems to work without using much CPU at all (10-15% on an AMD 1.4GHz T-bird). Can GBPVR stream MPEG-4 files in this manner? If not, can I call VLS from GBPVR as a "helper" application?
The DVICO HDTV Fusion web page claims the ability to convert a HD stream into MPEG-4, but they are silent as to whether this is a hardware or a software function. When used with GBPVR, is there a way to stream to a file in MPEG-4 format in order to use a lot less disk space, or would this be a post-processing step?
I was also wondering about the advisability of getting a video card with MPEG-4 hardware decoding. Most of the chipsets I've seen for this purpose do only the simple modes of MPEG-4 and specifically do not handle global motion compensation. Does this make them not useful for most downloaded MPEG-4 fiiles? Would such a card be useful if GBPVR can stream to a file in one of the simple MPEG-4 formats or is a regular nVidia card with MPEG-2 decoding sufficient?
Finally, I was wondering about the possibility of controlling GBPVR and the TV with a single remote. The girder framework under Linux has a shot at doing that, but I don't know about running it under Cygwin and problems that may causes with GBPVR. Also, TV control codes are not necessarily simple keystrokes, as GBPVR commands appear to be. Is a single remote a reasonable possiblity? Do people have a recommendation for the remote itself? The Hauppauge has its own remote, and the USB and PCI models of the DVICO cards each have different remotes that ship with the cards. I have no idea if any of these are good, bad or ugly.
Thanks in advance for your help in selecting the hardware for this system. This sounds like a fun project and I hope that by asking questions ahead of time, I can limit this to a moderate, instead of infinite, time sink.
Please bear with me, my first time doing this.
I'm having two problems. The pvr computer is an old dell, dimension XPSt550, p3 550MHz, 384 megs of ram, winXP sp2.
The main problem I'm having is with an Actisys IR200L. I'm trying to use it to control a DishNetwork DV3 box (a real peice, but it's what I've got). Using the pvr computer, I couldn't learn the remote. Going to the new button, the channel 1 screen pops up no problem. I select COM1, which it is connected to, and I waited for five or so minutes holding the button and it wouldn't go past the ch1 screen. I tried this multiple times, it just pegs cpu at 100 and does nothing. I then installed gbpvr on my other good computer (it has no tuner, I was just trying to get the remote to work), and the first time I tried to learn the remote, it worked fine. I saved the file, and transferred it to the pvr computer. I still couldn't get the transmitter to work. I then went back to the good computer and tried to learn the remote again and I couldn't. I've tried everything I know, and I can't create the new file again, it just stays at the channel1 screen, pegs cpu usage at 100, and does nothing. I've tried uninstalling gbpvr and reinstalling, made sure the xp ir drivers were uninstalled, reinstalled them anyway, uninstalled them again... still nothing. So, is it possible to just copy the .ir file to the other computer? It shows up under the device tab, just doesn't seem to work. What else could be wrong? Just for kicks, the file I have is,

I would really like to create the new file again, just to make sure the remote was learned properly, so I can narrow the problem down to something else.
The other problem, which I imagine is probably normal for a free service, is when updating EPG using zap2it, it sometimes takes forever (hours), or will just freeze at saving new channel information. Is this normal?

I would inform you, that you database (cdplayer.mdb) don't work's right. If i copy your empty databse into gbpvr and start your plugin, it will download ONE TIME the cddb-data for my Audio CD with Track-Title etc.!
So far, so good. If i leave now your plugin and enter back, then the FileList only Display the Title like this: "Track 01, Track 02, Track03..." while within the CurrentTracklist all is displayed correct.
If i choose a Track directly, i'll get an error-message, if this Track is outside the viewable Filelist area.
I think you have to go through this, for now i disabled the cddb-function.
Here's something I'm observing: If I manually put the computer in hibernate, then the computer DOES NOT wake up from hibernate to do anything--record, update epg, etc... However, if the computer put itself into hibernate, then it wakes up fine... is this a valid observation and is there any way around it if others validate these issues?
I got everything working for the most part. The Haup 45 button remote can turn on/off the TV, receiver, do volume and mute.
The only problem is when I hit something like vol or mute, I have to press it once, which seems to wake up the uirt or girder, and again to get the command through.
I'm not sure if this is something where I have the event set up wrong, it needs more speed, more repeats, etc.
I was wondering is anyone had a file they could export I could import and see how it is better done. I'm just looking for a good example where someone uses one remote to turn up/down the vol on an external device like the tv or stereo.
