  Recommendations - tuner card, etc
Posted by: 86atc250r - 2005-11-07, 11:53 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (14)

Hello,

I just found GBPVR recently and thought I'd build myself up a dedicated PVR system.

Currently I have an old 450mhz system running as a music server and tied into my home theater system. I wrote some remote control software and it works pretty slick. That's about all it currently is though - a digital music player.

I thought I'd make the leap and further integrate -- so, I'm planning on replacing that 450mhz machine with a 3ghz, 533 FSB Intel based box with a 200gb drive dedicated to video, music, and image storage and a half gig of ram. This PC will not have a monitor and probably won't have a keyb or mouse for that matter -- will be managed via Remote Desktop.

I have an old school tube TV that I probably won't replace for a while. It has composite and S-video in's.

I would like to be able to play DVDs, MP3 music, internet music, (fm tuner would be cool too), watch my analog cable, and do the PVR thing with this system.

First question, I'd like to only buy a TV / en/decoder card once - I think I'd like it to have as much hardware encoding/decoding as available as to keep system resources as free as possible. What's the recommended card in this dept? I've been looking at the PVR-350 so far.

I've read some are having problems with the PVR-350 cards locking up when using the composite out function -- have any of these problems been had by those using Intel chipset based MB's? I'll be using an ASUS P4PE.

Next, in the past, I had been considering upgrading my sound card to an M-Audio 2496 card (with RCA ins and outs). Will I still want to go this route, or will I be able to send MP3 and internet based music out the RCA jacks on the TV card to the receiver/amp? If so, will they offer reasonable quality?

Any other caveats I should be aware of? I'm looking to build a very slick, well integrated, and easy to use/operate system that even my wife will enjoy taking advantage of.

What would some of you that have a good bit of experience do if you were building up a system like this, with those goals in mind?

  always error in config.exe
Posted by: fb_de - 2005-11-07, 11:15 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Hi,

I'm trying to run gbpvr with a hauppauge pvr 350. I have the recent MS.NET framework installed.
However, everytime I want to end the configuration dialog by clicking on OK, the following happens:
- restarting the recording service
- (waiting for 10 seconds)
- and then, the following error message, with the option to continue the config, or quit.

an unhandled exception.... couldn't get process information from remote machine!

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this
application or machine (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine
rather than being handled by this dialog.

What could be causing this? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Frank

Twinhan BDA drivers - having problems
Posted by: peterh - 2005-11-07, 10:03 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (13)

I think I've followed all the steps, but still not getting there..... I have gbpvr set up with a Nova-T and working fine. I want to add a Twinhan sat card. The card is in the pc and has been working. I've downloaded the Twinhan BDA drivers, but when I try the setup prog (depending on version) it complains that this is only for MCE or asks me to install SP4 (I'm running W2k SP4),

so I've gone to device manager and updated the driver for DTV video and replaced it with THBDA (thbda_mce_uk renamed) and when the driver was asked for 878bda.sys renamed to thbda.sys. It now looks right in device manager, but graphedit only shows Twinhan under filters and not reciever component.....What am I missing?

  Guide movie search
Posted by: Doz5 - 2005-11-07, 08:14 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (7)

Does anyone knows how to search for movies?

I looked in another program that downloads the guide information from Zap2it and in the descriptions they had (movie) or (Special). So that tells me that the information is there, it is just how you extract it from the listings.

In GB, can you do a search for (movie)? Or (Special)?

This is incase you don't know the name of the movie.

Thanks

  Any news on wireless MVP
Posted by: DeepBlueC - 2005-11-07, 06:37 PM - Forum: Hardware - No Replies

Has anyone heard anything about when Hauppauge is going to release the new wireless MVP. Awhile ago I had heard the rumor it would be released in October, well so much for that.

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything..

MusicAlbum and MyPictures plugins cannot coexist on my PC
Posted by: dane - 2005-11-07, 05:48 PM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (4)

I have problems with MusicAlbums. It doesn't work, and the installation of it caused problems with other parts of GB-PVR: The original MP3 player, Live TV, playing a recorded show.
In MusicAlbums:
In MusicAlbums I can see my folders and all the MP3 files, but when I try to play a MP3 file I get this error message:
Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
In Music Library:
I cannot play the MP3 files with the standard "Music Library" from the original GB-PVR installation, I get the same error message. It worked fine until I installed the MusicAlbums plugins.
In Live TV and at replaying recorded shows:
when I stop a Live TV play og stop playing a recorded show, I also get the same error message: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. This also happened after installation of the plugins. I never had this error before.

History:
First I installed MusicAlbumsII, it didn't work. It is based on MusicAlbums, so I thought that it would help to install that. It still didn't work.
Then I read in the forum that MusicAlbums is maybe dependent of VideoArchive plugin, so I installed that. I still cannot play MP3 files.

I have attached logfiles in case anyone is able to help.
At timestamp 13.37 I try to run a MP3 via the MusicLibrary
At timestamp 13.38 I try via MusicAlbums
All plugins were downloaded 7th November 2005
The PC is running windows 2000 pro

Later I tried to make a fresh installation of GB-PVR on another PC (win XP). I installed MusicAlbum plugin and other plugins and one by one. After every installation, I tested before I installed the next plugin. I realized that MusicAlbum and MyPictures cannot coexist on my PC. MusicAlbum works fine until I install Mypictures (and MyDatabase). After that, I get all the same same errors again. The error message comes in all the same situations, at running MP3 files, at stopping Live TV and at stopping replay of a recorded show.
I tried to remove the MusicAlbum plugin files from the plugin and skin folders, but is has no effect.

Is there any known fix for this problem?

Issues to be aware of when running 2K3 Server?
Posted by: wrocky - 2005-11-07, 03:52 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

I had seen some posts in the past that I don't seem to be able to find right now about issues of running GBPVR on a 2003 server.

Right now, I primarily use an MVP as my access to server where 2K3 runs, and it works well. My only issue now is that when I use the web interface from a remote computer to schedule a show, it doesn't actually record the scheduled show.

There was something about running the web service on 2K3 as a service I recall. .. Anyone have the similar issue?

How to limit the amount of disk space for recordings?
Posted by: erik - 2005-11-07, 02:52 PM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (3)

I am using CDKschedular and I am very happy with its functionality.
However my disks are getting very full Smile

Is there a way to delete old recordings automatically according to some rules?
I do NOT use GB-PVR for viewing so it has to be fully automatic and it can not use any human interaction.
It should also work if I do not have time to manage the GB-PVR computer for some weeks.

Any suggestions on what I should use?

Wish for a -OnlyEmptyScheduledRecordings command line argument
Posted by: blader_se - 2005-11-07, 02:37 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (2)

To handle changes in the EPG I think a -OnlyEmptyScheduledRecordings command line argument would be nice.

I would use it in conjuction with -OnlyRemoveEPG and -OnlyUpdateEPG.

Perhaps this is dangerous to do when a recording is in progress or there is other ways to accomplish the same thing....
