Hey everyone, I'm in college and GBPVR saved my life because for the first few weeks I was going crazy without being able to record TV shows for future watching. Finally got a PVR-150 to record on desktop. Anyway, I have a question and hopefully there's a solution. The school doesn't want any servers just openly running on their network because of security reasons [not to mention bandwidth.] I was wondering if it were possible to restrict the GBPVR web interface to 2 MAC addresses [my laptop hardwire and my laptop WAN] and to disallow all other access so I'm not in violation of rules [they said I could limit by MAC address.] Another option would be authentication, but I don't know if the GBPVR interface is enough, maybe something equivilant to the apache .htaccess/.htpasswd scheme. Thanks in advance for any help.
i use an external hard drive to hold gbpvr's recordings.
i notice that if i unplug the hard drive, my recordings stay in video library, but are removed from 'ready'. the 'ready' section of 'recordings' becomes blank.
is there any way to prevent this from happening?
obviously programs wont be recorded if i remove the hard drive - but are there any other risks involved with this?
Everything works fine with my new MVP except the mute button on the remote. The mute works fine in GBPVR when running on the PC, but not when using the MVP, anyone have a fix for this?
I leave gbpvr playing the fm radio on overnight to record a radio show (using another program in conjunction with gbpvr) in the morning.
i usually have shows scheduled to record around prime time the same night.
the problem is, if i dont come home to turn off the radio in time for the scheduled recordings, they dont work.
the program will be listed as recorded and ready, but wont play, and the file size is zero, it doesnt exist.
is there any way to get gbpvr to turn off (exit the program but running in the tray) or to stop the radio automatically at a certain time, after my radio show is over but before the tv shows start?
maybe a scheduled task or something? i'm unfamiliar with task scheduler though.
any help is appreciated.
I'm new to the hole PVR scene and have a few questions.
How does gb-pvr get channel programing info? I know that info is incoded in local broadcasts, so does gb-pvr get the info by decoding part of the coaxil signal coming into the capture card? or does gb-pvr require the machine to have an active connection to the internet?
Does gb-pvr need alot of proccessor power to turn my box into a smart tuner. I'm interested in being able to record, but I also want to watch normal television and be able to use gb-pvr to browse the channels. If you don't know what I mean, I had a comcast cable box and was able to use the pop up channel diesriptor to cycle through channels without actualy tuning to a new channel, allowing me to browse channels but keep watching a single show. I'd like to know if thats possbile and if my machine is'nt very fast will there be a problem.
Not gb-pvr releated, but I have a copy of xp-pro, and wanted to know if there is any trick to make it run smoother as just a base os that won't be user heavy.
The reason I ask these is I am going to build a pvr that will more then likely need to be upgraded before it can trualy record anything. I will be bulding it out of extra parts I have about the house to keep the initial cost low. The 1st build will more or less likely be an mp3 player/archive that can tune channels with that browser bar and do surround sound.
that reminds me, does gbpvr support srround sound? meaning after the pc gets ahold of the signal will it still go out in surround sound to my 5.1 dts reciver?
I believe there was work or talk being done on comming up with a standard or common video/music database for the various plugins. If that didn't ever happen, any thought on a common import or export file format?
The reason I'm bringing this up is that I've noticed quite a few threads lately about how to get files from one proprietary format into another proprietary format. Seems like we need an agreed upon standard of import and export for the various plugins for GBPVR so that this transition can happen easier for the users.
The issue is Using FFDshow with GBPVR on the MVP. The AVI & DivX video plays too fast and is out of sync with the audio!
I'm sure there is a setting in FFDShow to fix this, but the thing might as well be in Hebrew!! It's full of options and acronyms that I'm not familiar with, and I can't seem to get it in sync with the audio. I couldn't find a relevant FFDShow forum to post this in, but -- well -- I am using GBPVR so I thought it was more relevant here....
I'd appreciate any good settings or configurations that you much more experienced folks might have to share
I'm planning out my system before buying anything and I want to know how to get the Hauppauge remote to work with the PVR-500MCE seeing that there's no input for the receiver. And does anyone know if the remote from the Hauppauge website comes with the receiver?
I'm also getting a GeForce Fx5200 for TV output. How does that sound? Any comments?
One more thing... Is there a way you can continue watching tv while looking at the guide? (i.e. - Have the picture as a smaller screen in one of the corners, or have a transparent background on the guide....) Thanks a bunch!
