Whenever I try to access the web server. Any ideas why?
I bought a sapphire theatrix 550 pro, which is essentially an ATI wonder elite, and i want to simply make high quality MPEG-2 recordings with it from the composite video or s-video inputs, and thats it, i have o desire to use the TV tuner fucntions. however, i have a few questions for people on here:
1) no matter what i set up the profile quality settings to, it always goes back to "medium" quality settings.
2) what settings do i need to have to enable previewing and recording from my laserdisc player hooked up to the s-video or composite inputs on the capture card?
OK â I have done a lot of reading on these posts and on related other forums. I am ready to buy my final piece for my system. I am a little bit hesitant to decide and would like to ask for your comments.
Hardware available:
2 older Pentiums (350 and 450 MHZ) currently running as server in my network, Linux & Win2000, 512 MB Ram
1 Athlon 1700, 384 MB Ram, running PVR stuff right now w/o problems.
Hauppage PVR-250 (excellent piece of equipment by the way)
Lotâs of hard drives in various forms, space and fashion
Wired & Wireless G Network (just ran a Network Cable to the Home
Entertainment Center, speed no issue)
Currently SDTV, not really intended to go to HDTV soon
Here is the situation:
I am just looking for a PVR system that records shows and plays them back, serves pictures and MP3âs & net radio to the home stereo amplifiers. Live TV and pausing live TV is not really envisioned yet and I am not really into DVD playing or ripping. I do not want to display the OS on the TV! As far as I understand it I have two options if I want to go for hardware decoding on the âTV outâ side (yes there are more but I narrowed it down to these twoâ¦):
Option1: MediaMVP
I like this little gadget and understand itâs shortcomings wrt DivX and response time on the remote. But this would be the slickest solution and the quietest one. I just found one in our local Sprint Store for $79. So the price is really comparable to the XCard for $85. This would allow me to run my bulky computers from where they are right now â in the closet. Especially some older SCSII cards are pretty loud and would not be suited for the Option 2.
Option 2: XCard
Just go with the XCard and place a Computer in the Entertainment Center (doors closed means that the noise is not that badâ¦). Avoid the loud SCSII drives and just go with the silent 160 MB that I have, will probably have a 2nd small hard drive just for the OS.
Finally - here are my questions:
I would really like to use one of the older machines. The PVR250 records with almost no CPU usage. After this very pleasant experience I looked especially into the hardware decoding side. Current thinking is that if I use hardware decoding I can use the older machines. Today I came across one post that disturbed me. It said something about that MediaMVP needs high speed CPUâs to run properly.
Do you think I can run MediaMVP with a 450 MHZ machine? Is there someone doing this right now?
Is it possible to run the XCard with a 450 MHZ machine?
If I have to fall back to Athlon 1700 â which option would you recommend? (sub â I understand you donât recommend equipmentâ¦.)

on my main machine it takes like 0.5 seconds to change tracks if i pust ctrl-right but on my pvr its always taken about 5-10seconds (which is really annoying), its been like this after two formats (of the machine), and both machine have the pretty much the exact same codecs, i thought it might be ffdshow, but managed to disable it and same result.
its not a major issue, since i dont play music that much, but would like to get the problem fixed.

I managed to get it working after being an idiot so now I have a few questions:
1. I can't seem to be able to watch programs which are currently recording. What could be the problem here? When I goto it in recordings it doesn't let me click on it (i.e. just does nothing) and when i try to view another channel it tells me its recording and I can watch the recording problem but when i click this it returns to the main menu.
Hi, I lurked on this forum for a while, and finally decided to take the plunge and get an MVP. The MVP works great, but I am having trouble setting up the remote. I have the old 34-button remote, and I can't use the number buttons to change the channel. Also the mute button doesn't work. Any advice for this noob would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Brand new to GBPVR, this is my first attempt at making a PVR.
Setup:
Hauppauge 250 tv card
Intel se-440bx motherboard
PIII 866mhz
384mb RAM
60gb HD, split into 2 partitions (1 for windows/programs, 1 for files)
GBPVR 09208
windows xp pro sp2
matrox g400 dual head
MediaMVP
So far everything is working well, after a bit of trial and error I was able to get the video signal from my Scientific Alanta digital cable box into the computer and back out to my MVP.
Here is the problem: there is a considerable amount of 'latency' between me hitting a button on the cable box remote and the results displaying on the televsion via the MVP (about 3 seconds).
I'm not too concerned with the ability to pause/rewind/ffwd my television; in fact, I'm quite happy to get rid of that feature if it would allow me to 'surf' with the least amount of delay possible.
As I'm new to this, I'm not sure where to start in the Configuration program.In the audio world, we have the same sorts of problems with soundcards not being able to monitor signals from their inputs in real-time because of all the work involved with passing the signal from the input to the driver to the os then back to the driver then back to the output.
In order to compensate, some soundcard manufacturers offer 'low-latency' drivers which bypass the operating system and allow the signal to only have contact with the host software. There are settings for the driver which allow the user to customise the degree of latency control in terms of milliseconds or buffers, or it will allow the signal to completely bypass the host software. The tradeoff is between speed and quality; the lower the latency, the higher the chance the audio will drop out or stutter.
1. Is there a way to completely 'turn off' the ability to pause/rewind/ffwd television so that there is no need for the video signal to go anywhere but back to the MVP?
2. Barring that, is there a way to turn down the delay/buffers to minimize the amount of stuff that gets passed around before being sent to the MVP?
3. Do encoding/decoding quality settings effect the speed at which a signal is passed to the MVP, and if so, does it effect the speed at which the computer passes the signal to the network port, the speed at which the signal travels along the network cable, or the speed at which the MVP displays the signal?
I just switched from Mythtv to Gb-PVR.
I'm currently having problems with video. No video displays if I go to Live TV or select a program from my guide. It just freezes.
If I go to the channel tune program, It finds all me channells and video looks pretty good, do I need to transferr the frequencies found in channel tune into GB-PVR somewhere.
any help is appreiciated
