Is there anyway to restrict the delete function ? I want to put MVPs around, but I don't want kids (or visitors for example) accidently deleting stuff from the main menus. Is there a pin code function, or simple remove delete button?
OK, I promised I would do a writeup of my experiences with the PVR 150 IR Receiver problems. If you're reading this you've probably:
1) Installed a PVR 150 (or 500) in your machine
2) Installed the software that came off the CD in the box
3) Optionally, gotten GB-PVR working, recording, and then have a mysterious problem where your remote goes dead, and the only way to fix it is to reboot the machine. GB-PVR seems to work fine with the keyboard and mouse, but 5 or 10 minutes or a few hours in, soon after a record starts, your remote just dies.
First of all, you're not alone in this. There's a HUGE forum post about this over at http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=1761 (Hauppauge support). Basically there's a flaw in the drivers that shipped with your PVR that after a recording takes place. You're going to have to flush these drivers out of your system and start over again to get your remote working.
Here's the full steps you'll need to get your remote working and happy for days on end:
Things to know in advance.
1) The drivers you can find on Hauppauge's site **dont work either**. You'll be downloading the PVR card drivers from another site. This is OK.
2) For the sake of GB-PVR, you only need two sets of files. The PVR drivers and the IR receiver app. All the other apps are unneccesary for GB-PVR to work.
Here we go:
1) Go to this page (or just download directly from my links below):
Yes, it *says* prerelease, but ignore that. These drivers are really "released" (either that or everyone is using them like they are).
There's presently a newer driver in that same directory... Use that at your own peril (or just follow the steps here again if you mess up).
2) Extract pvr_2.0.30.23083_prerelease.zip somewhere on your computer, perhaps the Desktop. We'll be using these drivers as the directory provided to the Windows Hardware Install Wizard in a few steps.
3) Close all running PVR apps, including WinTV2000, GB-PVR, the GB-PVR system tray icon, and the IR receiver app.
4) Run HCWClear.exe. This is like an enema for your system, removing all traces of Hauppauge software. Don't worry, GB-PVR will remain intact. Tell HCWClear to remove ALL the software from your system.
5) Restart your system (From the Start Menu, of course)
6) After your system starts up, you should be back to where you were before you installed the software, a popup window should come up asking to install the drivers. Do not go to Windows update. Say that you know the directory location, and specify the directory you extracted the pvr_2.0.30.23083_prerelease files to. You'll have to verify the third party drivers. Your system should recognize the hardware.
7) Install the IR receiver program ir32_245_22350.exe. You should have the IR application running in the system tray. If you like, click the "Go" button on your remote to see if the remote is hooked up.
Hold on cowboy, we're not quite finished.
8) Run GB-PVR's config program. Select the DVD & Remote tab, and then click on the "Fix Hauppauge Remote Settings (45 button remote) button, then click OK to close config.
9) From the Start Menu, Find Programs > Hauppauge WinTV and restart the IR application.
10) Run GB-PVR. Your remote should work, and should continue to work even after you start recording.

As a side note, I had a completely seperate remote problem which involved my remote only working when the remote was an inch away from the receiver. It turned out the IR cable had managed to wind itself around the power plug, immediatly next to the power supply. Be sure to keep your IR cable clear of other cables to avoid interference.
I hope this helps people who were as frustrated with the PVR 150 as I was!
On a shared machine, some applications (such as The Sims 2, which my oldest kid likes to play in the morning when the PVR is in action) spike CPU usage. If GB-PVR is recording a show at the same time, this can cause the recorded show to skip or jump, almost as if it were in a "fast forward" mode, making it somewhat unwatchable. Even though the process normally only used about 2% of my CPU, when placed at par with other apps it didn't get all that 2% when it needed it.
Through a bit of a hack (eventually using <a href="http://www.beyondlogic.org/solutions/processutil/processutil.htm">this app</a>) I managed to increase the process priority of GBPVRRecordingService.exe from "Normal" to "High", and the problem went away completely. I can run high CPU apps and recording is glitchless. I've got this down to a link on my desktop, but it's a bit of a kludge solution. It doesn't run after a reboot or reconfig (which resets the priority back to Normal).
Would it be possible to allow you to configure the system (possibly optionally) to launch GBPVRRecordingService.exe with a High process priority? This would seem to be a good and simple addition to me, as even on a dedicated PVR system the actual recording of shows should be the most important non-OS activity.
One that could take all the video files of a folder and convert them into a different format in a different folder and that could be activated from GBPVR.
It should be able to offer choices to which format the users desires to convert to and if the user want to delete all video files except those converted to the new format, it can be also selected. All automatic without complicated .bat files or .dlls

when i try to watch live tv i get that message. using the tuning assistant i can see the channels and they come in fine but this message pops up when i want to go live tv. any help is appreciated.

Hi all, I'm trying to set my GB PVR up and have the box put together and software installed, but I'm not able to get any signal into the card... I have the Hauppauge PVR-150 card and Comcast basic cable service.
What I normally have set up to watch TV is the cable from the wall going directly into my sony VCR, then composite cables into the TV and it works fine.
For the GB PVR setup, I connected the wall cable to the PVR-150, then the S-Video out (Geforce FX5200) to the TV. In the config tool (Create Capture Source page), I tried setting internal tuner (both antenna and cable) and I just get a black screen for a couple seconds (Live TV), then it goes back to the menu.
I then tried connecting wall cable to VCR, then composite out of the VCR into composite in of the PV150. Then in config, I set composite/external tuner, but the same thing happened.
My PVR150 didn't come with the winTV software so I'm not able to test if the card itself is working. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this working? Thanks!
I being a mug for punishment, went and bought 2 more MVPs, figuring I would work the problems out eventually.
Anyhow The new ones are E1 the old one is D3A. The D3A still resets at random times. I tried the E1 pressing skip multiple times, and it didn't seem to have a problem. The D3A managed to have a problem even with the hauppauge software, while the E1 seemed to almost work fine with the GBPVR.
This was a one off test, need to try more later, but wondering if anyone else sees the E1 as reliable and the D3A not so much so?
I seem to have fixed my quality playback issue...would tell you how but am uncertain at this point..I went and cleaned up my network a bit and upgraded some components ect somewhere along the line stuff just started working better.. anyway another problem I am getting text on the gbpvr menus and in different submenus the bottoms of lines will be cut off or overlap. when i use that position pluging the first line of the hex is overlapped partially by the width line.. and similairly is happens in almost all menus. any ideas what i can adjust to clean this up?
I was trying to setup a dummy channel for using GBPVR to record On Demand stuff, instead of using WinTV2000. I planned on assigning channel 1 to the composite input #1, and no external tuner.
I made a seperate Capture source with;
Composite External Tuner - No Channel Changer Required.
I added a Channel #1 to only that Capture Source called "On Demand"
I can use the channel up/down buttons to go to it, but not by typing the number, or the guide, (It is obviously blank, actually missing).
Can I setup a fake xmltv for only that capture source that has a fake entry of "On Demand" that exists forever? I am using zap2it for my other sources.
I am going to try to find the format and give it a shot.
