OK, so I got home after work today to check how my PVR recordings worked for the day. All of them seemed fine except for one, which had moments that felt like there was some crazy fast forwarding going on.

Since it only happened to one recording, I had a suspicion of what happened.

Me: Kids, what were you doing around 4:45, just before I got home?
Kid: Playing Sims 2...

I'm guessing that if you have an app eating up all the CPU cycles, then GB-PVR (or rather my PVR-150) can have some lossy data collection. I'm running a Sempron 2500+ with 512MB of RAM for reference.

Is there any way to remedy this? I'm going to change the priority of the GBPVRTray.exe to "High" using the Windows Task Manager as an experiment, but even if this does work the process won't start up in high priority after a reboot.

Does anyone have any ideas about this? Experience with mangled recordings while another intense CPU process is going on in the foreground?

I have installed and configured DVD Ripper and when run it creates a subdirectory under the ROOT of the disk rather than a subdirectory under on eof the direcotries defined for GB functions.

For example, I have defined:
c:\GB-Archive for archived data
C:\GB-Buffer for the recording functions
C:\GB-Videos for recorded programs
C:\GB-DVD2MPEG for the output from the DVD2MPEG (which I cannot get to work properly but that's a different problem for another day :-)

Anyway, when I run DVD Ripper on a DVD such as Maltese Falcon it creates a directory called C:\DVD2MPEGTHE_MALTESE_FALCON. I would have thought, and prefer, that it would either have a config option to set the base directory or it would put the output as a subdirectory such as C:\DVD2MPEG\THE_MALTESE_FALCON.

With the current results there is no way to "see" and play the result from GBPVR.

Clearly I have a config problem but I can't seem to find it. Any help?

I have problem regarding the MVP stopped at "Contacting Servers" when the "Live TV" is started after the MVP is off for a few hours.
And, I attached the log file for your reference.

The symptom already repeating many times in this pattern:
1) If it is the 1st time I use the "Config" icon to set the "Number of MVP server autostart" to "1", then OK it.
So, it starts the GB-PVR software and everthing seems to be working fine, plays Recording, Net Radio and the program guide, Live TV etc from the MVP for at least an hour. Then, I turn off and on a few times the MVP.
Everythings still work fine !
(log time before 1:31:40 AM in the attached log)
2) After turning off the MVP for a few hours, then turn it on.
The main menu is up, when I try to go to "Live TV" the MVP drops out and goes to contacting server.
(log time after 7:27:03 AM, and there are ERROR's in the end of file.)
3) I will need to go back to the above step 1), or manually restart the GP-PVR MVP server.

Then, the problem is still repeated from the above 1) to 3), which disappointing me that I can only enjoy the PVR for a little while. :confused:

I have tried these :
a) Reinstall the latest MVP s/w version mediamvpsetup_24_23096_web.exe and 'beta' version 2.4 23104 from the Hauppauge web.
b) Turn off the Win XP firewall.

I am about to set up a second Dish301 sat box for use with GBPVR. My question is about the eventstrings that GBPVR sends to Girder. I intend to setup my second Dish STB with a different remote address.

Essentially what that does is that it makes the IR codes different and one remote controls box #1 and the other box #2.

Girder can learn those remote codes with no sweat, and I would create 2 command sets (one for each Dish receiver), identical except for the IR codes. The problem I see is, will GBPVR send different eventstrings for different tuners?

For example, if I wish to change the channel on tuner #1, will the eventstring be unique to that tuner, or will it be the same for both tuners.

If they are unique to the tuner, then I have no problem, but if they are the same then my scheme will not work as Girder will change the channel on both tuners, regardless of the different IR codes, as the eventstring will match both commands.

*In Fastfind if you type a string and cant find a show hit stop and you can create a cdk schedule watch for it.

I am trying to catch up to you folks but am still very new to this technology. I have a substantial workstation system, XP Pro, Hauppauge 150-PVR and am based in Ontario, Canada.

When I watch Live TV in GB-PVR ("out of the box" without knowingly have changed any settings), the image quality is great (although the audio is sometimes lagging but very clear). When I use the Hauppauge supplied WinTV software, or Beyond TV 3 (latest release), the picture quality is not nearly as good (in fact, it is pretty darn poor - but the audio never lags :o ). I prefer Beyond TV features so I am hoping you folks could point me to possible settings that would allow me to get a quality image.

I was thinking there might be a simple difference in decoder setting that is being used in GB-PVR that I could set in Beyond TV if I new what to look for ....

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I just bought my brand new out of the box Hauppage PVR-150 a couple of days ago. After some struggling with the Audio codecs I managed to get GB-PVR up and running.

I've had some real problems getting my Hauppage remote to work. I've discovered I had two independant problems, one of which is now fixed. The remote seemed to have very poor or nonexistant reception.

At one point, the remote was working, but only if I placed it within a few centimeters of the IR Receiver. I eventually discovered that the in tangle of cables behind my box, the IR Receiver/Blaster cable had wound itself right around the power cable, right next to the power supply. Interference galore. Fixed that problem.

My real problem now seems to be that after using GB-PVR for a while, the remote seems to die out. There's no response at all from the remote. Switch to WinTV2000 and the remote still doesn't work. Stop and restart the IR application, and the remote still doesn't work. The only thing that works consistently at present is restarting the computer (from the Start menu), but that's an annoying solution.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience or insight with this. What do the Hauppage 35/45 button button fixes do exactly? Do you think it's a GB-PVR or Hauppage problem? Is there some other process that might be killing something off?
