  Alternative Media MVP
Posted by: Edwin10 - 2005-05-09, 11:00 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (1)

Hi,
just wanted to let you know that I'm very please with my new setup. I love GB-PVR, but I found the Media-MVP responsive a bit slow and wanted to extend GB-PVR into my bedroom.

I bought a Marmitek Megavideo 55, which enables me to convert the TVout of my PC into a signal on the coax cable. This signal can be configured with a large number of different frequencies. I then programmed this frequency on both my TV in the livingroom and the bedroom.

I tried the IR extenders from Marmitek, which can be bought optional with the Megavideo 55. The only drawback is that you can only use 1 IR extender at the same time. So, If I enable the IR extender in the livingroom, I have to turn it off before I can use the one in the bedroom. And guess what, I forget it every time.

Another drawback, and the most important one, is that the IR return signal is blocked by my antenna-amplifier.

So, to make a long story short, I bought 2 Marmitek Powermid XL senders, and 1 receiver. It works like a charm. No turning on/off, it just works.

And because I put the GUI of GBPVR directly on my coax cable, the responsiveness is very fast.

For those of you out there who don't have a Media-MVP yet and/or those who want an alternative, I can highly recommend it.

The only thing this setup lacks is the abbility to start 2 sessions independantly. Because the GUI is send to the COAX cable, the GUI is the same on all TV's. So I cannot watch 1 program on one TV, and another show on the other. But this is no showstopper for me.

Kind regards,
Edwin

Is it possible to use 350TV-out & TV-SVHS?
Posted by: casperse - 2005-05-09, 09:22 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

Hi Guys

I love the PVR 350 TV-out!! Quality!
But I would like to watch DVD´s with subtitles etc.
I know that I cant do this on through the PVR350 card.

Buti if I use the TV-out on my Graphic card for DVD playback and watch my recordings on the TV-out on the PVR350 is this possible?

This would also mean that I could watch 2 things on the same time...(send it to 2 different television)

Cheers

  Faster Navigation with Colored Buttons
Posted by: u-dog - 2005-05-09, 09:21 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (1)

Is it possible to use the colored remote bottons as Shortcuts?
It would be nice if in the dialog boxes all possibilities can be chosen by Shortcut and Navigation. Using the color keys, the button can easily marked and Navigation gets faster.

It would also be very nice, if the existing shortcuts would be marked with colors. Rolleyes

  CinemaNOW... Why Not?
Posted by: ydekmekji - 2005-05-09, 06:17 AM - Forum: Wishlist - No Replies

I just discovered CinemaNow.com that allows you to rent or buy movies from your computer. You just downloaded it (like I-Tunes). Would it not be just so cool to have a plug-in that connects you to CinemaNow, download a movie, (pay for it) and then watch it--all through GbPvR on your remote... My friends, that would be HOT!

  Divx playback problem
Posted by: navyguy - 2005-05-09, 05:44 AM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (4)

Warning: kind of a long post.

I see several other threads that appear to be the same problem as what I'm having now that I can actually get Divx files to play. But no solutions in them that work for me. Sad

The movie starts and after 3-5 minutes, depending on the individual file, the movie stops and I'm back at the file selection screen on the MVP. This is a graceful exit, no crash on the PC or on the MVP just the movie playback ends abruptly. Also no windows eventlog messages.

As other's have mentioned, using a different codec will have an effect on how long the movie plays (divx5 codec from divx.com will run for at least 15 minutes, I couldn't take watching with the A/V synch problem longer than that Wink ) however only ffdshow playsback without an A/V synch problem (approx. 10 second audio delay with divx5). Turning on or off ffdshow options (resize, noise, sharpen, etc.) has no effect on how long the movie plays.

I've tried this with gbpvr .91.12b, .91.11 and have just downloaded .91.08 to try it out. Used ffdshow 20041012 sse2, 20041012 regular. Used Hauppauge 2.4.23104, 2.4.23038, 2.2.22146. All of these experience the same problem at the same points in the movie playback depending on the specific movie file.

I've attached the logs in their entirety but I'll paste the important parts here. The interesting thing to note in them is that transcoding ends 1:13 before the movie playback stops:

gbpvr.exe.log
5/8/2005 9:48:17 PM.812 VERBOSE [35] Request 200000 bytes (file size:137758724 file location: 137600000)
5/8/2005 9:48:17 PM.812 VERBOSE [35] about to check
5/8/2005 9:48:17 PM.812 VERBOSE [35] Not all bytes read. Got:158724 Filesize now:137758724

trans2mvp.exe-native.log
21:43:53.000 VERBOSE transcode processing started
21:47:04.781 VERBOSE transcode processing complete

Note: at 9:47:04 in the gbpvr.exe.log nothing is reported that is different than what has been logged or continues to be logged until the last entry above except that the file size stops growing at the 137758724 mark. This movie is over 2 hours long so there is no way it is actually completing the entire transcoding in just over 3 minutes.

In other threads about this problem it is theorized that the PC isn't fast enough to do real-time transcoding and the playback is over-running the transcode file thus 'crashing'. For this problem at least that can't be the problem as the movie continues playback from the transcode buffer for over a minute after the trans2mvp process exits. This playback time after the 'crash' varies depending on the individual movie file (I'm assuming compression, resolution, audio bitrate differences) but the semi-common denominator is a transcode file size of approx 130000000-140000000 when it stops growing and the trans2mvp.exe stops.

I hope I've given enough info to maybe help track down what is happening. Hopefully someone will have an idea or two to try out or better yet a solution. I'll provide whatever info I can if more is needed.

Thanks!

My Pictures - Virtual Memory Issue
Posted by: daphatty - 2005-05-09, 05:23 AM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (5)

I've been using My Pictures to display photographs for friends and family when we have them over for dinner and such. It's quite the conversational piece and sure beats bringing out photo albums, especially when multiple people are interested in the photographs.

One thing I've noticed that as time passes My Pictures will reach a point where it can no longer display my photographs and instead displays a white screen with a red border and two diagonal red lines running from corner to corner (looks somewhat like an envelope). Upon further investigation, I have found that Windows has run out of virtual memory and I believe this to be the likely cause.

Now before you answer with, "increase your page file size and voila", I think it's important to note that I have 768Megs of RAM and roughly 768Megs - 1536Megs of additional disk space configured as my page file. It sounds to me that My Pictures isn't really managing its memory space too well. With my current setup I can run My Pictures for about 30-45 minutes before the screen goes white. I'm forced to shut down GeeBo and restart it again in order to show my pictures again.

Is there any way to fix this problem?

  new mediamvp remote available

http://registration.hauppauge.com/websto...asp#remote

Sub, if I go and get this remote and update my MediaMVP to version 2.4 (beta), will that have any effect on gbpvr and IR support? In other words, will I be able to use it?

Favorite MP3 ripper, sound leveling, etc...
Posted by: reefboy - 2005-05-09, 04:13 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

I was curious what software people use for ripping their music to MP3's? What is thought to have the best sound quality (itunes, windows media player, winamp, etc? Do you guys use sound leveling and if so what software to do that? Using GBPVR as a jukebox on our Home Theater System makes me appreciate more and more the idea of sound leveling so that all music plays at a fairly common sound level.

In the past I was a fan of Music Match until they go to release 10. Release 10 is just to bloated and buggy. I hate having a windows error every time I go to shut down. SO I installed Music Match 9 or even 8.

choppy video / no audio channel 2/3 only
Posted by: Wilf - 2005-05-09, 04:03 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

Hello again,

After installing the new drivers for the WinTV-PVR-250, all channels now work perfectly except 2 & 3.

When watching TV, both have choppy video and ch3 sometimes has no audio.

This is a fresh load of WinXP on a P4 2.8 with 512Mb - the drive has been defragmented and there are minimal background processes running.

I'm puzzled since all other channels display OK.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Wilf. (Toronto, Ontario)
