Write output in 1 GB chunks
Posted by: 40thFloor - 2005-04-29, 04:43 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (3)

On my setup, Nero X 3.0 seems to get to about 3.9 Gig (10^9) and pretty much thrashes the page file. Up to then it zooms along when first scanning a file (.mpg). When it hits about 3.9 (somewhere around there), the VM shoots to around 1.3 GB and nothing goes anywhere except my disk which goes round and round, but Nero never gets anywhere. CPU is low at this point, maybe a percent or two, but available memory is extremely low, maybe 512 KB (yes, half a meg) so everything crawls. I have to kill Nero to get things back to normal.

There's no problem with smaller files. 1 GB per would be good, or configurable. The other movie maker/burner I have installed is WinDVD Creator 2 (maybe Oct2004 version, the Plextor M402U version), but that always wants to render/encode (very slow) even with so-called SmartRender checked.

I'm using a Sapphire Theatrix, which does its job much better than the Plextor. Now, if I can only get some decent quick-cut/edit software. Nero will do if only I can limit the size of files created.

I suppose I could record 0800 to 0900 and then 0900 to 1000.

Has any one else seen this problem, or know of a way around it?

  UK setup - some issues
Posted by: slayer - 2005-04-29, 12:46 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (10)

I have Telewest or (C&W now) cable. I use BLEB to grab my data. Am in UK.
My kit is: VIA M10k, Wintv-pvr-350, 512Mb stick, Travla C137 120W case.

I have some questions. Apologies in advance if I am being a newb -I have tried searching the forums and bladerhq wiki, with some success. but some niggles:

is BLEB the best for London UK? does it have all the channels? suspect not.

If I put the PC into Standby, the Travla C137 case doesnt have a 'soft' resume button. just the power button. Once it sleeps, not sure how to wake it! How do I configure the recording service to wake it up? seen numerous posts about people getting it working, but not how they did it.
Sub, for the interests of the environment, I think you or someone equally clever should have a sticky on this; I suspect most people dont bother, and have 90W+ power supplies running 24/7. Smile related: the shutdown plugin - does it have a suspend mode? rather than shutdown only?

the via M10k seems to crash sometimes with WinTV-pvr-350. I have tried a lot of BIOS tweaks, and consulted forums, and have come to conclusion that there is a fundamental bug, and all you can do is try and limit IO to avoid crash. Is this current thinking or is there something new?

Intend to use redeye to change the cable box channels (yes I have the awkward box), which inputs on svideo in to the WinTV card. How do I map channel numbers to the channels in this case? Can I mix terrestrial and cable channels? if I do that, can i have BBC1-CH5 (terrrestrials) along with 'the rest' of the cable in the same configuration? For example - if I have configured BBC1 as channel 26, wont redeye try and send that to my cable box? suspect I have missed the plot on this one Rolleyes

my wintv svideo out is black and white. the composite is colour. hmm, this may be my dodgy SCART converter plug - some have cores missing. but any advice appreciated.

Travla C137 fan is really noisy! Anyone had the same experience? Any reccos for a replacement that works with dynamics of this case?

bleepbloop actually puts a button on my menu (why?) when I click it, GB-PVR stops responding although the mouse works, and you can Ctrl-Alt-Del to kill the gb-pvr process.

If I get answers to this, I will send back to the wiki! everyones a beginner once!

how can I watch tv without timeshift delay so I can play xbox
Posted by: davids1024 - 2005-04-29, 12:44 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (9)

I want to hook my xbox up to my rca inputs of my ATI theater 550 pro and when I do there is a 3 second lag in response with the controlers, I assume it has to do with the timeshift capability. Is there a way to shut it off so I can watch live tv with n Sad o timeshift???

Thanks,
DAve

weather plugin - msnbc changed stuff
Posted by: slayer - 2005-04-29, 12:17 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

i tried the weather plugin today, its great!

but it appears that the instructions for getting your city code dont work - guess msnbc have changed the site. but you can still get it if you click on maps (radar), then enter your city and click search. once you select your city, that URL will have the code.

Some UK stuff:
London is UKXX0085.
Brighton is UKXX0215.

  Webcam support
Posted by: jorm - 2005-04-28, 10:02 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (6)

Is there any interest in webcam functionality on the gbpvr.

Functionality would include

Connect to a local webcam and stream video frames to the TV/PC. No audio.
Can be used for home security system. Eventually with multiple webcam support. GBPVR seems to be calling render at most 2 or 3 times a second.

Eventually Video Conferencing again no audio (at least not for mvp users). Via the internet.

  XRecord and BlueMCE2
Posted by: garygamb - 2005-04-28, 09:40 PM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (27)

I did a cursory search of the forums for this, but on my computer, while using XRecord and BlueMCE2, the section of the skin that shows the recordings is overlapping with the navigation buttons on the left..ie....ready, pending, etc....I've looked at the skin.xml file and i can't seem to figure out how to move this section to the left, or can I?

  Security Camera
Posted by: sparkgap - 2005-04-28, 09:24 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (4)

My TV card is connected to a home security camera via composite video input.

Is there any possibility for my TV card to provide a security service with GBPVR and my camera while the card is idle between scheduled recordings?

  Quality Profile Setting?
Posted by: user7_global - 2005-04-28, 07:01 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

Hi,

if i start a record via keyboard or remote always the same "Medium Quality Profile" is used, never mind the setting i did there before. Isn´t it possible to save another (e.g. Low Quality) profile as default?

  Hauppauge PVR-USB2 Owners
Posted by: wrocky - 2005-04-28, 06:08 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

I currently have an issue with file sizes on the PVR-USB2 where recordings are approx 50% larger than from a Hauppauge PVR-150 MCE.

See thread http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=5754

This could just be my setup, but I think I've eliminated every other variable. Can someone else who has a PVR-USB2 post the file sizes that they are experiencing for a one hour recording. Mine are in the 3Gig Range for each hour for the USB2 version and under 2Gig for the PVR-150.

regards,

Wrocky
