I am having problem with the positioning and size of the Live TV display
If I start GBPVR (NTSC) in full screen mode (on a 640x480 display) the main screen appears to be positioned correctly (aside from a mystifying several pixel white border at the bottom and right of the display.) However, opening Live TV there is a black bar at the right and left of the TV image.
The only way I have been able to get the TV image to go edge to edge is to start with command line positioning (gbpvr.exe -pos:-10,0,720,480 -noframe) This results in the video going edge to left edge but is obviously being cutoff on the right. The main and other screens are shifted left 10 pixels but it doesn't seem to be a problem.
This is about the best appearing video that I have been able to achieve thus far. If I set the horizontal size to something less than 720, say 650 for example (to simply account for the -10 pixel left shift) the image appears "too tall", faces appear distended --- things just "look" slightly distorted.
Are there other ways to correct the video positioning? What is the ideal horizontal/vertical display sizing when using PVR 150 MCE cards?
I have setup a compro videomate dvb_t300. I have got this card working fine for live tv but when making a recording the video is very jerky. I have installed the trial of cyberlink make dvd to have the muxer installed and i do get a recording but like i say it is very jerky and the quality is not very good.
Does the recording plugin just write the transport stream straight to disk or does it do any reencoding,as recording with the supplied software of the videomate is good quality and working fine.
Thought I had this licked, and I do, but it's troublesome it's happening. I want to say since 912 (but it's the recordings in Scheduler in XRecord that it happens to), but it could be incidental.
Anyway, unless I have rectracker installed, all my scheduled recordings will duplicate when it is updated/processed. That causes the error when you go into the guide about the duplicate ID number.
I didn't always have this problem, because I didn't always have rectracker installed to clean it up. Now I need it to stop prevent it.
Any idea why this is happening? LIke I said, rectracker is taking care of it, but I want to fix it in case I stop using rectracker for some reason.
I've had this issue periodically in the past, but it's gone away w/either time or a PC reboot.. but now it seems to be persisting. Any suggestions for what i can do to either further diagnose this problem or avoid the "MVP Exception: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine" ?
What's observed is that the MVP does the "connecting servers" for a little bit, then stops as if it's about to go show the gbpvr menu, and then repeats. On the PC in task manager, i can see the gbpvr.exe process start, grow, and die, and repeats.
So far, I've tried resetting the gbpvr service, the pc and the mvp; made sure my NIC was at 100Mb; next i'm going to kick the router and defrag my recordings disk..

It seems to me that codecs are a huge part of getting GB-PVR to work properly. Why not have a codec section in the wiki. So many people have put good info on here, but it is so scattered. I think a comprehensive break down of what they are, how they work, where to get them and how to make them work would help a lot of people. I think that those that know have to step back and remember that those that don't know are really lost. A lot of the answers on here are based on the thought that the person asking has a basic understanding, yet I think a lot don't. As I don't know much more than squat about codecs, I'm not the one to do it, or I would. Though, if people felt that they could send me enough info, I would try to put it together.
Until today every time I powered on after being in a (MyMusic) playlist, I was able to continue where I left off. Today I always get back to the GBPVR Main Menu.
The only change to my system has been the latest XP Pro update?
Any body else? I wonder if this relates to Tipster's Network observation.
Below are a few questions that plague me when I read stuff on the internet. In certain posts, I can't determine whether someone is confused and used the wrong term, or I am confused and need to learn more. So, if someone (who knows for sure) could please answer these few below, I would be very grateful!
1) What is the difference between DivX and Xvid?
DivX and Xvid are just different "brands" of MPEG4 encoders/decoders right? They are not separate standards, correct?
2) When someone refers to DivX and Xvid, are they typically referring to MPEG2 and MPEG4 standards as a group, or only MPEG4?
3) MPEG4 != MPEG2...right?
MPEG4 does a better job of compression, but is not completely standardized yet. Yes/No?
MPEG2 is what DVDs are encoded with (and what my Hauppauge PVR250 generates.)

I'm currently running gb-pvr on a P4 2.0Ghz machine with a PVR-350 TV card. It all works very nicely and I've had it running since January without any problems.
The only draw-back with the current setup is that I can't play MPEG-4 (DivX / Xvid) videos via the PVR-350's TV-Out. I'm currently setting up a media server on my network where I want to store all of my films and stream them (via the WLAN) to my gb-pvr machine to play. At the moment I have a stand-alone DVD / DivX player, but it would be nice if I could use my "Tivo" PC to replace this (and use the huge amount of storage available there!)
I guess this requires that I buy a graphics card with a TV-Out function, but I have a couple of questions:
(a) Can anyone recommend an acceptable graphics card (AGP) for not too much money since I *only* use this machine for watching TV / media and not playing games (I intend to still use the pvr-350 for watching TV).
(b) Will gb-pvr cope with playing the TV (& recordings) via the TV-Out of the PVR-350 and only use the graphics card for MPEG-4 playback?
