I can not figure out if there is a way to power on an external tuner via a serial cable before recording. I have GBPVR setup to use girder to change channels like a champ. Girder uses a serial command to send channel info to my Directv receiver. Now I would like to power on the receiver before recording and turn it off when finished. Is there a built in command to do this? Is there a different way to do this altogether? Thanks for any info or suggestions.

following are comments and questions regarding a setup of gb-pvr (latest release) with the hauppauge 150:

when selecting any menu option that goes to tv, a new "active" window pops up, thus giving me 2 windows for gb-pvr. this becomes a problem because the menu screen turns black, and the new window has the tv picture and is in focus. thus disabling me the ability to use my remote. in order to get my remote working again, i have to re-focus the now black screen.

when pressing the next button on the remote, it seems to make the volume louder. i can go back and forth between two settings of volume. not sure if this is exaclty a feature or not. seems odd to me.

i can get my remote to work only when the gb-pvr app is in focus in windows. if it isn't, my remote works on the focused app. in my gb-pvr settings, i have the setting for the remote to be forced to gb-pvr set.

is it possible to get the remote # buttons to change channels. the only way i can change channels is by going to the program guide.

is there such thing as "live tv". this might be the way the hauppauge 150 works... as in it is always capturing and thus you are always viewing a capture (hence the few second delay). but does anyone know if you can simply view a straight stream w/o it recording? i guess this defeats the purpose of the pvr software .

Just wanted to toss this out to those developing actual GBPVR plugins. I'm going to implement a set of Helper classes for the External Recording Manager so that the manipulation of the XML file will be easier. Here is what I'm thinking of:

1. getPriorityRecording
2. setPriorityRecording
3. sortPriorities
4. savePriorities
5. loadPriorities
6. createPriorityRecording
7. removePriorityRecording

What I need from people developing Recording Managers (i.e. XRecord, Video Archiver, and My Video) are what is going to be most useful for you.

I had thought about implementing the IScheduleHelper class, the structure is a bit different and some of the features you would need aren't there in that class. I could always extend that implementation and add the missing features.


What features do you need to make as little impact to you as possible. I'd like to keep as much physical management away from you as possible, that way if I change the underlying structure you aren't affected.

Last night I was putzing aroung in GB-PVR getting things scheduled for the night, and was getting real ticked at it hanging. So I started shutting down EVERYTHING in my tray, My KodaK software, Girder... Then for the heck of it, I put my AntiVirus into sleep mode. GB-PVR seemed MUCH better!!. I shut it down last night, and watching several recordings while west wing was recording, it worked very well. All from my MVP! I was very pleased. I will do more testing to see if that is what it was, or just a fluke.

I have Computer Associates E-Trust antivirus. If it ends up being the culprit, I will try to exclude some files/directories and see if that works, so I can keep it running.

So if anyone else has the same type of problems, what anti virus are you using.

With the new media experience skin gbpvr is looking very sharp. I am thinking of moving it to the frontend instead of myHTPC.

However, for playing music I use either my music or jukebox plugin. But these stop playing after four songs and lock up gbpvr. Sometimes there is a short loud high-pitched beep, sometimes it just stops. As it is with both plugins, I suspect it to be a problem in the gbpvr code, not the plugin code. Any idea sub?

ive finally added pin numbers to my videos, ie can password protect a folder, someone finally actually asked for it so i did it .

configuration:
1.unzip new plugin to gbpvr folder (creates "Keypad" in skin folder)
2. now heres the cool part, you dont need to enter the config app to configure it, yay! all you have to do is go into the plugin, enter a "folder menu" (ctrl-o or "no name button" aka "function button" on a folder) and select "Set PIN" it will ask you to "Set Master PIN", this will allow you to enter a "Master PIN" of 4 digits which will be used to set every pin number on a folder, so if you thought an individual PIN number just reset it using the Master Pin.
3. If you want longer pins than 4 digits (minimum, max =20) you however must configure it and set a new Master Pin in the config app.
4. Removing a PIN from a folder, selected "Set PIN", enter "Master PIN" then select either "Clear" (will first clear the digits if some have been enter, in which case select clear again) OR enter a PIN of all zeros (quickest way).


You also dont need to edit the config.xml file this time, i got off my lazy arse and set it up so it does it for you, yay!

PIN numbers are hashed using the MD5 algorithm and stored then as plain text, this means the pin number itself is not stored so no one can hack it, and the MD5 algorithm is one way function, meaning if someone gets that HASH value (which is stored as plain text) there is NO WAY to reverse the process and get your pin number. that said, still dont use your credit card pins thats just silly

So I have GBPVR up and running, waiting on my usb-uirt in the mail, etc,

Would love to add the weather and theatre listing plugins but cannot figure out how. I have DLed them and unzipped them to what SEEM to be the right folders (followed the path in the zip file) but get nothing when I run the gbpvr interface.

Anyone have mercy on a newb?

When compiling the source it compiles fine, but gbpvr keeps returning object not set to instance of object. What do i need to change in the skin to make it work, I assume it has alot to do with the new gbpvr version..
