Since its been over a couple of weeks since the last release, I thought I'd leave a quick note to let you now whats going on.

I hope to get the next release out by the end of the weekend. The main addition is live TV, which has been much much more painful than I'd hoped. There are a few other changes, some visible like new icon mode in the video and music libraries, some not so visible like changes to the skin XML structure to make it easier to maintain.

I've also been very busy at work.

Some of the "in-betweens" in our TV guide are scheduled as programs in the XMLTV feed from ananova - they can be as little as 15 seconds long!    This causes issues in the TV guide in displaying blank gaps and non-shown items.  I don't know what the best solution is (not show short items?), but wanted to provide examples (see below):

In my XMLTV feed, I get multiple entries for the <desc> property for each programme. They seem to be in descending order of size (i.e. largest text first, smallest last) - I think GBPVR is only picking the last one up - is it possible to pick all of them up and use the most appropriate one for display (e.g. short description for the TV Guide display, long description for the detail when an entry is double-clicked.

I've just had a look at myHTPC - the GUI on it is very nice, and it's easier to mention that than try and verbalise the things that could be incorporated (http://www.myhtpc.net).

I know that these are low on the list vs. functionality such as live tv though...

I don't know what has happened, but I can't get TVOut anymore. I get an unhandled exception error on starting the app when I have enabled TVOut in configuration. The only thing I can think of is I installed WinDVD 4 (and have subsequently uninstalled it).

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling GBPVR 4 twice but it still doesn't work (I've even deleted all the devnz folder tree before reinstalling)

Any suggestions?

I don't know why I didn't think of this before...   I've attached a JPG giving the outline of the area that displays on my TV (Philips 32" widescreen) in 4:3 mode.   I'll do ones for 14:9 and 16:9 modes as well when I get a chance.

Sub would be happy to know that I got a new video card that supports VMR9. Now I know what I've been missing! The on screen displays on the video player are nice!

This would also be great, although not sure how feasible... I've managed to get an encrypted DVD played on the TV Out but can't get the audio in sync (lags about 1/2 second) by decoding and re-encoding the DVD (using Intervideo decoders from WinDVD and the Sonic MPEG2 Encoder that comes with Sonic MyDVD). I'm sure there must be a less kludgy way of doing it..

This came to me when letting my 3yr old play with the remote control - the ability to "log on" to the application so that your settings, and more importantly only your files are available for viewing/listening. Could also provide restrictions for recording (e.g. by time of day, or by classification if one exists in xmltv) and own skin. Could use pin numbers to protect adult content etc. if required.

Again in the "low" category, but I think unique in the PVR world?
