  Filtering "Illegal characters in path"?
Posted by: notasage - 2016-04-27, 04:40 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (7)

I'm running a very basic NextPVR 3.6.6 setup to record OTA shows. Just basic scheduling with no meta data. Occasionally the schedule seems include odd characters so I get failed recordings like:
The Big Burn: American Experience
Wildfire across the Northern Rockies.
Recording Error: Illegal characters in path.

How can I get NextPVR to filter out any illegal characters before it tries to create the file so my recordings are not missed? Schedule data is not perfect so a little sanity cleanup on NextPVR's part would probably benefit everyone.

Log snippet of the event attached (it does show the odd characters). If you need more, let me know.

Thanks!

Devices working - not found in NextPVR anymore Win 7
Posted by: gozzie - 2016-04-27, 11:44 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (1)

Hi

Model HDHR4-2DT
Device ID 1230529D
Win 7

I was using NextPVR just for recording live TV here in Australia until a week ago when NextPVR no longer detects the Tuners in device settings. They are present and working as I can see Live TV in HDHR view OK. It use to be a simple case of selecting devices and up they came.

All HDHR software reinstalled to latest versions as has the NextPVR but no change. I also tried WIndows Media Centre and it does not detect the tuners either... Red herring or another piece of the puzzle?

I have a win 8.1 machine on the same network and it detects the devices first time everytime.

Any suggestions please?

Thanks

gozzie

  Recording Service Recording Automatically
Posted by: DParsons - 2016-04-26, 08:52 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (39)

I've come across a problem with the recording service where it will turn on and start recording random programs. This happens periodically and consistently since I've been using NextPVR around five months now. It fills up the temp recording folder on my c: drive with random recorded clips that I'm only aware of when I check how much space is on my c: drive and notice it's nearly full. During these times I can't access my content remotely (with Emby) as it gives the message all tuners are busy. However I've found that scheduled recordings will still record. Has anyone ever experienced this and is there anything I should do to stop this?

  Scheduling New Program
Posted by: jcole998 - 2016-04-26, 08:24 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (4)

When I ask NPVR to schedule a new program, one of two things usually happens: 1) NPVR responds almost immediately and marks the guide title block in red or, 2) NPVR takes nearly 2-1/2 minutes to do the same thing. I inserted a small portion of the npvr.log with relevant lines in boldface:

Can you help me understand why? I've run SQLite using a search query with the channel and title specified and get results almost immediately. Am I missing some operation that consumes so much time?

Thanks.

Next PVR Client won't talk to Next PVR Server
Posted by: opinionateddrone - 2016-04-26, 08:21 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

I started a thread over at Kodi Forums http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=271265

I'm trying to set up NextPVR as a client so I can watch recorded and live tv using NextPVR on my laptop rather than using Kodi exclusively. (there are A/V sync issues)

Can someone point me to a guide on how to do this? I'm pretty sure the db is not properly shared.

Prevent Windows sleep command when television recording is in progress?
Posted by: Agama - 2016-04-26, 05:11 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

Hi! Is there a way to prevent a Windows system command to put the system to sleep when NextPVR is in the middle of recording a television show? I use it as the backend for Kodi (I recently upgraded it to 16.1), which I started using about 8 or 9 months ago after Microsoft just about abandoned Windows Media Center.

Quick background on why I'm asking: I have the hardware button on our HTPC's case set up to put the system to sleep. If someone accidentally presses the wrong button on our Harmony remote, it will trigger our HTPC to go to sleep while the remote turns on another device. OR, if our little toddler decides once again to press the big glowing power button on the front of the case, it again goes to sleep. Most of the time, that's not a big deal, but if NextPVR happened to be recording a show at the time, it stops doing so, and the system proceeds to go to sleep, leaving me with a partial recording.

Previously, when WMC was in the middle of a recording, my system would ignore the power/sleep command. Is there anyway to configure NextPVR or my HTPC in general to have that same behavior when NextPVR is recording? I originally asked this on the Kodi forums, not realizing that the answer might actually lie with NextPVR since I'm still pretty new to using both. One person recommended using the old utility MCE Standby Tool, and I didn't know if I would need to resort to that.

Thanks!

  fix event_details
Posted by: SteveTyrakowski - 2016-04-26, 04:28 PM - Forum: Developers - Replies (3)

Hi,

I trashed my scheduled Recordings table. I was trying to manually change the filename and description in event_details for the Saturday night live special about Prince since the EPG had the wrong data for a repeat episode that was originally scheduled.

I used SQLLite2000Pro to try and update it interactively but the changes wouldn't stick, so I wrote a SQL UPDATE command to update the table, but I was too quick and forgot to add the WHERE OID = nnn clause. So as you may guess, all 3521 entries now point to that same recording with the same event details.

I have a backup of the database from October 2015, so I can write a program to match up OIDs and fix all the entries older than that. The newer entries are almost all in the season/episode format, so I was hoping that with a list of all the files in the recordings directory I can figure out the program logic to update the filenames for the remaining bad entries.

So the last piece of the puzzle is update the event_details field for those. Is there any description of what needs to be in that field or hopefully some way to grab info from THETVDB.COM and build the XML from that? I should be able to parse the program name, season and episode from the filenames of the videos.

Thanks for any help,
Steve Tyrakowski

What is the recommended way to remove a channel?
Posted by: ElihuRozen - 2016-04-26, 01:45 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (1)

Periodically, my provider will offer a free preview weekend of one or more of the premier channels, like HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, etc.

So, I add them to my line up on the SchedulesDirect web site, update my EPG to get them in the my XML file, import them to the appropriate device (HDPVR for HBO & Cinemax, Ceton tuners for the others) and update the EPG again. At this point, I can schedule & record to my hearts content.

Then, the weekend comes to a close. I remove the channels from my SchdulesDirect line-up on their web site. At this point, should I delete the channels from the settings for the device(s) in the Device tab or from the Channels tab? Does it matter?

Note, as indicated in my sig below, I use mc2xml to create an XML from the data on ScheduleDirect since I pre-process it before feeding it to NPVR.

Does Ceton My Media Center phone app work with NextPVR?
Posted by: d00msay3r3 - 2016-04-25, 08:56 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (2)

Does Ceton My Media Center phone app work with NextPVR? I use it all the time to add or change my programming for my Silicon Dust HDHomerun tuner. I was thinking of making the switch to Next Cool since no media center in windows 10 . I just wondered if the Ceton app would still work or is there something like it that I could use on my phone (android) for Next? Thanks a ton for any response! Just trying to get my ducks in a row before making the switch. Wink

  iNEWA Mobile Problem
Posted by: RTKAT - 2016-04-25, 06:28 PM - Forum: NextPVR Enhanced Web Admin (NEWA) - Replies (5)

Well, first attempt to post crashed so I will try again.
I liked the Dish app that would allow me to set a recording when I could not get home in time for something. I have and can connect to the iNEWA program on my phone but with a problem. If I have the phone wifi to my local network on and use a browser with my actual IP address, I can log in and do most any operation there is. But, if I turn off the wifi and go to my phone data provider(AT&T)I have a problem. I can log in and connect to the iNEWA mobile but nothing will work. Click on the guide and a loading message shows for a long time. Then a message >The server method "Get Epg" failed. About the same with anything I try to do will not work. The port address to the computer that run NextPVR is open (8866). That should not be the problem. Can this be something that AT&T is doing that stops this program from working??? Or ?????
