I've been experience this hang when exitting the config application for quite some time now and don't know how to avoid the problem.

It really doesn't seem to matter what I do to try to avoid the problem, however here is what I currently do:
1. Shutdown GBPVR using exit from the main menu.
2. Stop the GBPVR recording service either using XMEDIAs stop script or from the manage console under windows.
3. Exit the tray icon.
4. Start the config application to make my changes (even if I don't make any changes this happens).
5. Click OK
6. The window saying that it is restarting the recording service appears.
7. Hang.............

At the point it hangs only the config application, JETCOMP and the config window are active (nothing else meaning no GBPVR processes, tray, recording service).

I understand that there must be a connection to the gbpvr database, but I just can't seem to figure out what application other then the config application would have the connection at this time.

If there is NO EPG data loaded into the gbpvr database then I never see this problem. I reinstalled everything this morning and config worked perfectly until I performed the EPG update (through the tray icon). After that it hung immediately.

If there is a better way to ensure there are no connections to the database before running config please let me know.

I though it might have been the web admin, but since reinstalling GBPVR I have yet to reenable that in the config.

I dont know why you're having this problem since its not effecting other users, but I've added a <AutoCompressMDBOnConfigClose> setting in config.xml in the next release. If you set it to false, it wont try to compress the mdb file.

Even if there is connection to the database this wouldnt normally cause a hang. This would typically just cause the compaction to fail, an error would be written to the log, and things would continue normally.

So one update to this on going problem. I ran JETCOMP manually to compress the gbpvr.mdb database after stopping everything on the machine. It ran without any problems.

After doing that the next time I entered the config program is no longer hung. In fact, I've run config successfully a few times since then without any problems.

The only question that I have now is. If I run JETCOMP manually is there anything special I should be doing or just accept the defaults that it starts with?

When JETCOMP starts for me the following are set:
Database Locale: None - Use current language
Additional Compact Options: Destination is 4.x database format
System database location: system.mdb
User name: admin
User password: <blank>
Database password: <blank>

One final comment sub. The latest version 94.13 has been extremely stable for me. Therefore let me just thank you for ALL the hard work you put into this great piece of software since the beginning of the year. Your users really do notice it (especially my wife and kids). You know you have a great easy to use interface when my 5 year old can get around the menus to get to his recorded shows.
