Hello again,

Well I finally got myself a DVD burner and noticed that my PVR150 can do DVD Standard, Long and Extra Long play.

I was wondering if a kind soul could provide me with the settings for direct.ini so I can start encoding to DVD.

All help is appreciated like always.

RGDS & TIA

I don't know if this will help

I usually record stuff at medium that is about 1.8gb per hour
(1.2 GB when i edit out com.)
set at high it work out to about 3.0 gb per hour

So it depends on how many shows per disk or hours that you want to put on a disk

Hope this help or starts you in the right direction

Hi,

Thanks for your input but I am looking for the specific settings so that I can just burn straight to DVD without having to re-encode.

Any of the settings can be burnt to DVD without re-encoding. (As long as it is a 720x480 resolution) You can change them to whatever bitrate you prefer within reason, and they are still DVD compliant. I have my medium bitrate set to 4000 which gives 2 gig/hr. And 3 1hr shows fit on 1 DVD after trimming commercials.
3x MVPs (not used anymore)
XBMC
Hauppauge 150 via SVideo
Comcast Digital Cable
Motorola HD Cable box channel changed via Firewire
Vista Home Premium with RDP hack
AMD Athalon 64 5000+
340gig sata, plus 80SATA+3x160IDE Drives in XP machine for storage.

These are just arbitrary names someone made up. These are not official DVD standards. In this case, the names are just used to indicate different bitrates.

A typical DVD disk hold 4.7GB of data. If you record with a high bitrate, you'll get to 4.7GB quite quickly, so you'll fit a shorter recording on the disc. If you record at low bitrate, you'll get to 4.7GB slower, mean you'll be able to fit a longer recording on a disc.

Everyone,

Ok maybe I'm missing the boat here but I am unsure how or what I would change in my direct.ini then to allow me to fit four hours of video on a single 4.7GB disc?

There is a DVD bitrate calculator here: http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm

You basically key in how long the recording is you need to be able to store on DVD, and it'll tell you the maximum bitrate for the recording.

sub,

Ok, so I have pasted the following from my direct.ini:

Quote:VideoResolution=0
OutputType=14
BitRate=5500
AudioSampleRate=1
AudioBitrate=11
AudioOutput=0 // 0:Stereo, 1:JointStereo, 2Big GrinualChannel, 3:Mono
BitRatePeak=9000
AudioCompression=11
EncodingMode=1

after using the calculator I have came up with a calculated bitrate of: 2312 kb/s as well as DVD Max bitrate of 9570 kb/s and a Audio Bitrate of 224 kb/s what would the above direct.ini setting have to be changed to? Sorry for being so unclear.

Its probably something like below. You may also need to look at changing the resolution to make that low bitrate look a bit better.
