I have been using ffdshow. Here is my setting:

In GB-PVR Config ;
Playback->choose Dscaler Mpeg2 video decoder (I installed dscaler 5.006)
AC3 Filfter, Default Direct Sound Device, VMR9.
Check "use FFDSHOW.

DVD & Remote ->choose Cyberlink Video/SP decoder (I have PowerDVD 5), AC3 filter, default Direct sound device.

For ffdshow, I use the latest version: dennosie 3d, luma .5, chroma, 1, time 5 and HQ checked.
Resize fpr 2.5x, Setting is lanczos 2, luma sharpen 0.4, chroma sharpen 0.5

Http//:http://www.htpcnews.com has an excellent beginners guide for ffdshow. You don't need to purchase zoomplayer pro if you do not intend to use it over the 30 days. Also, my settings are not perfect since I have not got the time to fine tune it yet, but it does give me better viewing especially on tv since I have crappy cable signal.

CaptainVideo Wrote:Not working for me either. I've tried everything I can think of. No OSD either.

I have ffdshows working fine with Zoomplayer so I can process the video from my DVD's. In gbpvr I am using dscaler as the mpeg2 decoder, have set ffdshow but it doesn't work - no OSD showing up

Can't think why but it would be nice to have it working since the mpeg2 I record from digital cable could do with some cleaning up

Something strange have been happening to my install. I was playing around with ffdshow, dscaler 5.0.0.6 (uninstall, install, changing settings, etc.). Now, ffdshow is not working for live tv or recorded tv. It only works with dvd movies or xvid files. The config.xml file shows true for ffdshow.

Sub: is there an order I should install GBPVR, ffdshow and dscaler? Any suggestions?

Sub: I got it working again. I have another program that is not working properly. I uninstalled it. Reinstalled dscaler 5.0.0.6. But, this time around it only works in time-shift mode, and only with System Default video decoder. If I choose dscaler mpeg2 decoder, ffdshow does not work. I know I had it working with dscaler before (in my previous post). I'll do another reinstall and see waht happens and report back.

I did some more experimentation on ffdshow. I tried 3 versions. The best being the latest one 20051208-gcc4.0.2-s...I just let it install all the options, including the audio.

What I have found is that GBPVR TV or TV recordings will work with ffdshow only if I choose default video decoder. Also, depending on which de-interlacing filter (under misc tab) I use, sometimes it works on live tv, but others will only work with timeshift mode. I tried to configure ffdshow in a way that I can use it for dvd movies as well. The end result is that ffdshow does improve the tv picture qualtiy, but it also introduce other artifacts (like jagged edges on people's face) when the scene is moving fast. So in the end I just switched back to dscaler 5.0.0.6 which gives a very decent picture by itself. The ffdshow audio works.

Sorry for these long posts, hope it will help someone who is trying to make it work.

sub Wrote:1) set <UseFFDSHOW>true</UseFFDSHOW> in config.xml
2) set video decoder to 'system default' in config app.
3) enable MPEG2 decoding in ffdshow video decoder settings. (see below)

I finally got it to work using this direction. It worked, and the decoder worked great. I still ended up having to not use it after all that. I couldn't get the preloader conditions to work exactly right, and even then, for all situations.

It was a great picture, though...maybe I'll play w/ it again sometime.
