I have a DVB-t recording of about an hour (1.4GB) which is showing odd behaviour on skipping towards the end of the file, it sometimes skips forward by much less than a minute, and sometimes skips backwards. I have the skip forward button on my remote set to a 60 second advance.

Snips from the attached log:

Stream length: 1484259328
Stream duration: 3718

07/01/2006 19:38:21.359 VERBOSE [78] Request 200000 bytes (file size:1484259328 file location: 57493224)

This should work out to about 144 seconds.

07/01/2006 19:38:21.515 VERBOSE [77] User pressed: 43
07/01/2006 19:38:22.046 VERBOSE [77] MVP request processed
07/01/2006 19:38:22.078 VERBOSE [78] requestedPositionInSeconds: 199

So skipping to 199 seconds seems about right. Then:

07/01/2006 19:49:18.796 VERBOSE [78] Request 200000 bytes (file size:1484259328 file location: 1119990936)

Which I make to be about 2805 seconds, but:

07/01/2006 19:49:18.953 VERBOSE [77] User pressed: 43
07/01/2006 19:49:19.812 VERBOSE [77] MVP request processed
07/01/2006 19:49:19.843 VERBOSE [78] requestedPositionInSeconds: 2802

Which is 3 seconds backwards!

Any ideas how this can be fixed?

I'm finding a similar issue, trying to skip across ad's in the latter part of a recording(i'm not using comskip by the way) , if I go too far and want to go back a little, pressing back skip sends me forward, and the more times you try and backskip, the bigger the forward skips get!!!

Any ideas anyone?

Seems your DVB recorder does not generate a continues PTS timeline.
This can be corrected by various time line repair utilities
Search the forum for time line or retime
P4 3GHz 1GB, 250GB, nVidia dualTV, GBPVR 1.3.11, XP

Same situation here, no commskip and last night while watching a show that was recording I skipped forward a few minutes and went too far, I then tried to skip backwards (used just the skip back button) and it skipped forward several minutes, I then entered 1 and skip backward and it did skip back by a minute which I did repeatedly till i got back where I wanted to be. It seemed it had gone way past where I wanted to be when I hit the last skip forward and I had to skip back several minutes. If I can repeat it i will send logs. There was nothing wrong with the timeline.

Yes I have this problem too.

Tried Retime, all it did was make the video and audio go hideously out of sync.

If anyone can come up with any solutions to this I'd love to know!

I tried both the retiming methods set out in the wiki (retime and mencoder), neither makes any difference to the skipping problem.

If I watch the same video on my PC, the skipping works perfectly, a skip forward is exactly one minute as intended. Does this mean the file is fine?

How is skipping treated differently on the MVP to on the PC?

Any suggestions?
