I just purchased an mvp from radio shack, hooked it up....got a ip from my dhcp server, then goes to a screen that says "loading application", from there it just sits? Am I missing something, i have gbpvr set to autostart 1 server. The only thing is my connection to the mvp is wired, but my connection to my pvr box is wireless 802.11g. I've streamed video from it manually for months with no problem, is the mvp just more picky? I hope not because I have my pvr in a location where it's really not feasible to try and get wires to it? Any suggestions?

There are numerous threads here discussing difficulties with using the MVP when wireless links are involved. I suggest you review these. Most difficulties stem from the UDP broadcasts the MVP uses when booting, since these dont typically pass through routers normally.

I also suggest you try to get it working with the Hauppauge software before trying GB-PVR.

FWIW, when I have unplugged my MVPs I have never been able to load the dongle.bin from gb-pvr (which is what it is doing when it says 'loading application'); don't know why, and it's not a problem, just never done it for me.

What I have to do - and you may want to try, as sub suggests - is stop the gb-pvr recording service, run services.msc, start the two hauppauge services (assuming you have installed the mvp software first; I think they are called mediamvp and mediasvc from memory), then boot your mvp.

If it boots into the hauppauge software, turn the mvp off with THE REMOTE, go back to the htpc and stop both the hauppauge services you started. Then restart gb-pvr and the screen you should then see when you turn on your mvp is 'contacting servers' and you should be (hopefully) good to go.

Good luck.

Thanks man, gonna give that a try. Just to make sure I understand something:

1. once I disable the hauppage services, they will stay disabled even if i reboot the pc?
2. as long as the mvp doesn't lose ac power, the setup should continue to work without having to do this little service switch?

1) Yes, just make sure that they are changed to 'Manual' under the service properties. Aslo, by changing them to manual you can turn them on and off with one click without rebooting.

2) Yep. You can still turn it off with the remote (obviously), but unplugging or power outage will need the client software (dongle.bin) reloaded.

hope this helps.
