Anyone know why my GBPVRRecordingService.exe would be eating up RAM? It seems to work fine, but after the first recording it balloons up to over 200MB and doesn't shrink until i restart it.

Any ideas?

I've attached my latest logs, but everything looks fine in them...

It can use quite a bit of memory during the EPG update, particularly if you use zap2it. The way .net memory management works, it'll allocate the memory when needed, but wont free it back to the operating system unless the RAM is needed for something else. So it'll continue to look like its using heaps until something else forces the system to run low on memory, then it'll free back.

Are you a zap2it user? How many channels are in your line up, and how many days worth are you using?

This is a good idea, but for those of use who have maxed out all available RAM in ones system. An alternative is to use a RAM recovery tool such as

FreeRAM XP Pro

I have mine set to recovery RAM when it gets below a certain level. It works very well.

I am a zap2it user, and do have it grab the maximum number of days available, so that certainly sounds plausible. However, I could SWEAR that it only ballooned up to 200MB after I record a show. I'm gonna restart the service now and leave it overnight. I'll let you know in the morning if it balloons up overnight (presumably due to zap2it).

And it's actually not too big of a deal. I have 1.5gigs of RAM, so it's not like my performance is going down, I just thought it was odd. (And I generally don't like to keep 200MB programs running just for the heck of it, I get mad enough that AIM takes up 30MB Wink
