With DVB-T devices (like the Nova-Ts) you may also find that you have GOPs larger than 15 in your recordings -this can also make your authoring software throw a hissyfit!

The best software I've found for correcting the bitrate (it patches the header rather than actually re-encoding), aspect ratio, and GOP size, as well as frame accurate editing (without hours of re-encoding) and manual adjusting for out-of-sync audio is VideoRedo.

Before I had Videoredo I was putting my recorded MPegs through 3 or 4 free/cheap utils before authoring with no guarantee that my authoring software would accept the results.

Now my recordings are QuickStream Fixed in Videoredo, adverts removed and audio put back into sync (if necessary), and saved back onto the hard drive with the correct aspect ratio flag set, realistic bitrate (usually 4Mb/s for DVB-T) set and a maximum GOP of 15 frames. These saved mpegs then go into my authoring software (TMPGenc's DVD Author Pro) where I make the menus etc. and author to DVD. (If the resulting compilation is too large for a single-sided DVD then I author to hard drive and then use DVD Shrink to shrink it and burn it onto a DVD - I think I get better results using DVD Shrink than letting DVD Author Pro shrink it for me.)

If you're trying to author recordings from a DVB-T device then I would certainly recommend that you at least have a look at VideoRedo - there's a fully functioning, time-limited, free download available. If you're not convinced then check back in a couple of months 'cos the tech support there is amongst the best I've come across, and they're not slow at bringing out new & improved versions of the software. (Don't forget to check out the users forum there as well.)

DVD patcher.....my DVD authoring software (TMPGEnc DVD Author) no says 'could not initiate decoder'.

So, it doesn't like what DVD patcher has done (all I did was put bit-rate down to 3kbs)

What I would try, is make the DVD folder structure with whatever bitrate the files are, ignore any warnings that the disk is too big. Then I'd run DVD shrink on the result to get it down to 4.3 gig. I use TMPG DVD author and I never reencode anything during DVD creation.

You might want to look at using the options in GBPVR to re-encode it using ffmpeg to 5000bps or something like. There is a topic on here that uses a batch file called by the postprocessing.bat file that GBPVR uses. I don't have the link handy, search for ffmpeg, should get you close, I think the post is like 6-8 pages long.
