do you mean a tv tuner or a graphics card? - you need both.
TV tuner - depends where you are. If you are in the uk, you could get a Huappague Nova-t pci/usb2 to get dvb freeview. Aternatively, the analogue pvr-150 is very popular.

graphics cards:
An nvidia 6200 is probably the one to go for as it supports the latest purevideo features of the nvidia decoder. However, if you are looking to do it on the cheap and don't plan to play ubergames, look for a second hand ATI 9600/9700/9800. Others use the nvidia FX5200.

If the noise from the pc is a factor (which it usually is in a living room), you need to select your components carefully, particually the graphics card as the standard fans can produce a lot of noise. This can be fixed with aftermarket solutions.

spend some time cruising the forums to get a better feel for what people use.

cheers Smile

My pc has an nvidia 6800 and a dual dvb-t card.

I'm not to bothered about gaming on the media pc, streaming movies, music and internet..Plus Tv using GBPVR..

Every time I've tried tv out from my Pc or my old 9700pro the tv was poor..
Couldn't read the icons on the desktop and the colours were washed out..

I'm using an FX5200 and the TV out (4pin Svid to SCART) is pretty good. Make sure you get a high quality cable as this helps a lot.

have a read of this 1st. http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=12968

are you using the purevideo decoder (search forum).

remember the tv out is for watching tv - the desktop is never going to look great.
