Major memory leak in GBPVR?

I don't have time to elaborate at the moment b/c of the superbowl being on, but I have been having serious memory leak problems on my system... it has 1 gig of ram and yet frequently after my computer has been on for a while, i have only 200 MB or less available. This eventually results in my PC hard-locking.

Now granted I'm not absolutely sure the locking is due to the memory loss or that the memory loss is due to GBPVR, but I've never had this problem before using GBPVR so I was just wondering if it's a known issue at all?

BTW I frequently leave my computer running without restarting for days at a time.

Windows will always try to use all available memory for something. The only times it will appear to be using very little is after a cache flush (it depends which numbers you're looking at though).

You can use SysInternals Process Explorer to get detailed information on what processes are using up memory/CPU time.

Yeah well system cache in task manager is showing about 600 MB used but I can't imagine for what. It doesn't normally do that. I'm familiar with process explorer, I guess I'll have to give that a shot next time the system gets backed up.

I would still like to know if GBPVR has any known memory leak problems, since I've never experienced this issue before using it.

There is no known memory leaks in GB-PVR. It can use a lot of memory, but this memory is freed when GB-PVR is finished with it. The memory may not be returned to Windows until it is running low though, see: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...management

If you're using any plugins, these may be leaking but I cant help you with these.

So... it's .NET's fault that so much of my memory is "in use?" That other thread you referenced mentioned a memory idle cleaner... any idea where I can get that?

I'll do some mucking about after the 'bowl is over and let you know what I find, Sub. I didn't mean to use an accusatory tone or anything, I just couldn't think of what else could be causing it, and I was worried because there's really no alternative to GBPVR out there that I would even consider using

I'm pretty sure I wouldnt have mentioned any tool that does this.

I may have mentioned the Garbage Collector, which is the thing responsible for cleaning up memory no longer in use, but this is just part of .net and runs from time to time.

No, it wasn't you who mentioned it. You only referenced the thread that mentioned it. I wouldn't even be concerned about any of this if it weren't for the occasionaly hard-locking, so I wanted to check all my bases.

It was one of us that mentioned it. I just use it to help tidy up in the early hours. I use cacheman, but it isn't necessariarly the best of them.

In that thread Old Dog posted a link to RestartGbpvr (http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=8...ostcount=6) - I now have that set to run as a windows task middle of the night, and I also have it installed in Gbpvr's main menu - I just restart manually if she gets sluggish, but the nightly restart of the app seems to do the trick more often then not for me.

Just a follow-up, I figured out what was causing the hard locks. Apparently the latest Theater 550 driver does NOT like unbuffered streaming/playback in VLC.
