Does the operation of contig.exe impact the recording of other shows (i.e back-to-back shows, or multiple tuners) if the recording is going on at the same time that contig.exe is trying to defrag a file? I'm thinking of possibly too much disk activity (simultaneous recording and defrag) that could mess up the recording in progress.

Thanks.

bossman9 - I haven't tried what you are doing so I don't have any idea. One thought is that contig is able to do all files in a subdirectory so you MIGHT be able to mess with the path info and get it do work on the entire subdirectory containing the two files.

ww4397 - I wondered the same thing but after many months of recording I have not seen an issue. I have done done back to back recordings many times and I have seen no indication of any disk contention. In reality, doing a defrag of a single file is not all THAT horsepower consuming anyway... I wouldn't want to run an entire disk defrag while recording but this file by file approach seems to work well for me.

HTEWAM....

I really just need the file that is comcleaned defragged .....I'm going to begin archiving the _original files on another drive just incase the comclean messes something up....

Do you think the .bat file described above will work??

Thanks Bossman

Looking at what you have, I believe that the results of the contig will be lost when comclean runs. You need to invoke contig.exe AFTER all steps where you would be modifying the file.

htewam, thx for the tip. I added contig to my postprocessing before the weekend en now about 10 recordings later (at least 3 were concurrent and usually produce several thousands of fragments (interleaved)) the disk is still 100% defragmanted. It seems that at least on a dedicated video partition this works like a charm.

What about putting this as a tip on the wiki?

Koenie -- I'd be quite happy to let you post this to the wiki. I'm up to my eyeballs in stuff going on right now and too lazy to organize my thoughts enough to post a wiki entry. Glad that others are getting some benefit from this!
