Problems getting mp4 to play in GBPVR

I have an mp4 file that plays just fine on my computer, the same computer with GBPVR on it. However when ever I go into my videos and select it and hit play it will not play. Nothing at all happens. All others work fine.

I setup an external player in My Videos just to try and I can get it to play using WMP that way, but then it does not play on the TV but rather the computer monitor. All other files that I play via the default player in GBPVR launch and play on the TV.

Any ideas to this? I have been struggling for some time and well its now 3:30 in the morning and I give up.

As I understand it GBPVR uses the default WMP. I have WMP10 on this system. The file plays fine in WMP10, and WMP10 is the default for opening this type of file. However when I go into WMP10 and look at the supported file types it does not list .mp4

If I got into my video library on GBPVR I see my .avi, .mpg and .mp4 files. I simply cannot get my .mp4 to play from within GBPVR if you will.

My computer is a dual screen with one screen being the TV. GBPVR is set to always be on the TV of course. I open an .avi or .mpg from my video library and it plays on my tv. If I try to open an .mp4 nothing happens.

Now if I use My Videos instead of the video library, and configure an external player I can get the .mp4 file to play via WMP10 but it launches on the computer monitor rather then play full screen on the TV.

I love the .mp4 format as it has made my life a hell of a lot easier copying my DVD's over to archive on my computer for watching without having to constantly deal with DVD's. Thanks to DVD Decrypter and Nero Recode I have accomplished successful rips that previously failed on me constantly when trying to do via divx.

However I need them to play now from within GBPVR for this to be fully successful.

It's a new day I will keep playing, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

GB-PVR doesnt do playback of video itself. Instead it just asks DirectShow to play it. DirectShow is the video playback components installed with Windows Media Player.

If you google for a utility called "GraphEdit", download it, run it, and select "Render Media File" from the menu, then select your .mp4 file - it'll show you which Directshow components and decoders are being used. This is pretty much the equivalent of what GB-PVR is doing. When you get the correct combination of directshow components installed on your machine, you'll find it'll work in GraphEdit and in GB-PVR and probably all other Directshow software.

Thanks sub.. your suggestion led me down the right path. The solution for me came simply by installing K-Lite Codec Pack (Full)

Now everything plays great and I can continue ripping all my DVD's to my storage device. The convenience of GBPVR and all that it offers amazes me, great work to you and to all the others who have contributed through plugins and what not.

I simply love being able to quickly call up an archived DVD and play it without getting up and hunting for a DVD and dealing with inserting it and all that. Sounds lazy I know, but damn if it ain't nice to have.
