Ok, first of all i DO have .NET Framework 1.1.4322 installed.

I installed GBPVR and at the end of it, after i clicked on "FINISH", an error box appeared saying Security Exception : Requested registry access is not allowed.
Now everytime i try and load config.exe, i get this box but i can continue which brings up the config GUI. If i click on "OK", in the GUI, i get a different error box saying Unhandled Exception etc etc... System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values.

I have tried uninstalling GBPVR (deleting program files folder), restarting and reinstalling. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling .net framework 1.1 and also installing 2.0.
I am the admin of the computer. I havn't set any registry restrictions.(Not that i know what that is)
When i try to load GBPVR.exe, nothing happens.
Also, i have downloaded and installed this program before (Before i got my PVR 350. Just to check it out) and it worked fine.
So i'm out of ideas.

Here's the log file of the security error i get after i install and try to load config :

The lack from response usually means no one knows the answer to your question. I know I've not seen this problem in the past.

Google seems to turn up lots of hits if you search for "System.Security.SecurityException: Requested registry access is not allowed". I'm sure one of these contains an answer for you.

This isnt a GB-PVR error, but related to something funny in your machine setup.

rab - you could try RegMon from SysInternals. Download from here http://www.sysinternals.com/Files/RegmonNt.zip.

Just pull the .exe out of the zip file and run it. Tell it to 'include' only config.exe and check that it is set to Capture Events (the option is on by default I think but is toggled from the 'File' menu).

Start the Config app. then when you get the error about the registry security exception, stop the capture and save the file. E-mail me the saved file (my address is available from my personal profile). I'll take a look and see if I can see what the problem is (can't promise I'll find anything though Smile ).

Cheers,
Brian

Cheers for doing that Brian. Shame it was bad news.
So you reckon i have a corrupt reg file or some how it's got locked down. Well i havn't got a clue what to do about that.

Just so i know, is GBPVR a program for recording from a TV card tuner or can you use it to capture from a VHS which is connected to the card? If it's for recording from a tuner then it's not what i'm looking for anyway.

I've been looking at WinTVCap so i think i'll stick with that until i find something else better.

Thanks again.
Richard.

No problem - it didn't take long to spot what seems to be the point of failure.

I'm not really sure what the actual cause is - it's not something I've come across before. As I said, it isn't GB-PVR specific so it worries me that any application you run, that tries to open a MS Access database, will fail in the same way.

For anyone else reading this...

The RegMon file Richard sent me showed ACCESS DENIED when Config.exe tried to use OpenKey against...

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0\CLSID.

My version of this key has Read access for all users so normally you would never expect to get an access denied error. Anyone any further thoughts on this? I'm just guessing that either the ACL is corrupt or 'something' has deliberately changed security settings on that key - seems unlikely.

Well, you can setup GB-PVR to capture from a VCR but it's not ideal for this - it's much better for TV capture etc. sub generally recommends using the WinTV2000 application (for those that use Hauppauge cards anyway). If WinTVCap does what you need then go with that

I'll stick with WinTVCap i think cause WinTV2000 is so buggy, it's a chore to work with.(For me anyway)

I tried to access the reg file : HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 and it said "Cannot open HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 : Error while opening key" and the same for the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0Errors reg file as well.

I found this : http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;EN-US;209137

Is there anything there that could help/solve the problem?
