Actually Sub just made things very very easy in v96,.12.

I have a bunch of dongle.bins (I put them in the table here http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FAQ/MVP#toc4, just updated last night) and I always thought they had to be called dongle.bin. But since v96.12 he has made a drop down menu in the config, where you can CHOOSE whichever dongle file you want and it does not need to be called dongle.bin (as evidenced by his gbmvp.bin).

I originally thought the MVP would only accept a file called dongle.bin, but it seems that the new config can push (for want of a better expression) any chosen file name in that list, provided it ends with .bin.

I just did one this morning called dongle.bin_2_5_24023b, so now I have 3 .bin files in that bin dir and I can choose betwen them. Don't forget to UNPLUG the MVP (not turn off, UNplug when switching between them).

The new version dongle.bin_2_5_24023b has a cool search facility which throws up a PC on your network to which it should connect to. Really neat. Takes LONGER to connect initially though, so be patient.

to be honest I hadn't tried the gbpvr version yet. I was trying mvpmc and long story short, the mvp (unplug and replug) would always load up the hauppauge menu.

So on a whim I replaced hauppauge's dongle and STILL got the hauppauge menu!!!

Out of sheer frustration I deleted the bin file and I STILL get a Hauppauge menu! I just don't get it!!

I will try gbpvr's version to see if that will work.

fwiw all I want is to play my mpeg2 files which have ac3 audio. I don't need to watch tv... can't on the mvp because i'm all hdtv.

Your'e getting the Hauppage menu because the Hauppage Services are not disabled. ..nothing to do with the dongle bin version.

Quote:"But if it is, make sure the “MVPMedia” and “MVPMediaSvc” services are both stopped and set to Manual Start or Disabled (not Auto). If the Hauppauge’s MVP services are running, they will conflict with GB-PVR"

Read the MVP FAQ, it's quite detailed and reasonably clear ...at least, it was when I tried to write it :-)

That's cool, makes testing alot easier.

The only thing I can think of is that you haven't cut the power to the MVP long enough as it's only after a power cycle that the dongle will be loaded. Try leaving it for a good 10mins just to be sure.

Okay, I reinstalled gbpvr, disabled hauppauge's services, rebooted the mvp, and VOILA! It was the easiest install I have ever done.

BUT I had to go back to hauppauge's software for now. (a little explanation: I debug it in the mornings but have to have something stable running before I leave to work in the afternoon, because the mvp is what my son uses to watch his night time movie)

okay, so gbpvr's interface loaded up no problem. And it got an unsolicited compliment from my wife about how it looks better than hauppauge's... sub, you've passed the proverbial "wife test." Smile

When I tried to play (read: any) movie file, the screen died and reverted back to "contacting servers...." and eventually the gbpvr menu again.

long story short, the main menu and submenus all come up, but nothing actually works. I'm a little bummed out, but I am sure there's just a couple tweaks I need to make.

Thanks for all the help... just tell me what I am doing wrong and I will fix it!

Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

gbpvr.exe.log is the most likely one to contain useful info for this specifc problem.

Also, the MVPMC dongle, which I presume you are getting from sourceforge does not work with GBPVR. It's a complete re-write of the software for the media MVP hardware and works from a pull basis. It requires as I understand it a config file to go along with it to initiate. It's supposed to be able to play AC3 audio, but since GBPVR can't operate with it I've never flushed out it's internal workings.

There are other threads regarding the MVPMC version in the MediaMVP Section.
